So I think I'm finally ready to move on from Allen Edmonds.

Wanted a pair of black park avenues and they were on sale. I couldn't resist. I rarely wear black shoes so I guess these will probably last forever. I've been spoiled by that absolutely perfect 10.5EE fit.

Let's see what comes next, luckily there is amazing advice in this thread.

Are they better that EG or JL? I'd say no only because I believe they are all comparable products. Like almost all consumer goods, at some tier, it becomes futile to argue whether one top brand is better than another.
Hermes bought a tannery from Weston so I believe that tannery supplies John Lobb and Weston with the leather for their uppers and soles (that's what I read, at least).

I wish Weston was more readily available in the USA, but it seems like the boutique in NYC is the only place.

Fit will always be the most important thing. I can't tell you how many times I've read where someone will buy something that cost so much and then determine later how disappointing it is because it really doesn't fit,

Budgett really will determine what all your able to get into.

Really however there are so many great options out there, however some of this depends on the style your looking for.

However where are you located and whether your open to taking some risk,

So keeping these things in mind I would go in with a completely open mind in the beginning.

Have a look at the following and make sure you look at both parts 1 and 2.

I looked at Weston pretty hard before I dove into John Lobb (they had boutiques in Abu Dhabi and Dubai). JL's Misty Calf and Museum Calf are much better looking leathers IMO than Weston's. If they are using the same tannery, Weston is not using the same leather.

Weston are well made shoes, but like Berlutti, none of their lasts fit my feet.

I absolutely will come here for guidance. Thanks.

The weird thing is that I wouldn't even worry as much about fit if it weren't for that one pair of shoes in the front right of my picture.

The strands at the back right have been recrafted, the front left and front middle have been worn many times, and none of those shoes have noticeable creasing. It's amazing. It's the entire reason why I kept getting more pairs of AEs.

The pair at the front right have been worn maybe 5 times and they are already starting to crease badly, especially the right shoe. The only difference being that they are a 10.5E instead of a 10.5EE.

That single E width difference has made that much of a impact in how the shoes have aged and broken in.

Does anybody have any experience with G&G antique gray calf? I'm thinking of a Canterbury MTO in antique gray.

Something like this, but in gray...

JL just simply by association with Hermes has access to some of the best leather available.

That single E width difference has made that much of a impact in how the shoes have aged and broken in.

Creasing can be caused by a couple of different things besides how well they fit. Lower quality leather can show creasing before they're even worn. Looser leather or skin is basically what it is. Regardless creases will appear on any leather regardless how good it is. I can guarantee you that AE doesn't use the best quality leathers available. They just don't. So although a pair of good fitting shoes won't prevent creasing because leather will crease a good fit is paramount to how comfortable you'll be. Better quality leather will however age better.

Oh, I have no idea what type of boots your looking for or budgett but you simply can't go wrong by starting with E.G. Galways and going from there.

I searched, but there's so much gray suede that that it would take weeks to sift through the threads. The google images look very good, but it's always better to get an opinion of how they look in real life.

If I had any balls though, I'd go with the Sinatra in polished stingray.

It doesn't always work, but then again sometime it may take awhile before someone will come back with an answer.

I've also PMed a few of the the more prolific users who I figure would have the knowledge and that sometimes will either get you an answer or a lead to someone who will know the answer. Sometimes that's worth a shot.

I know next to nothing about boots.

Chelsea is a style correct? Just refers to boots with that U shaped area? Checked out some RM Williams on their site. They look nice, but don't know if the signature is worth double compared to whatever their standard version is called.

One reply, Canterbury with gray suede shaft. Great looking boots.

Too bad Skoaktiebolaget doesn't sell G&G shoes anymore or I would recommend contacting them. See I seriously considered getting a pair of pear grey shoes as they were the bomb, but I don't ever remember seeing a pair of antique grey. However if your even slightly interested in pearl grey take a look here.

There's more info available and I could probably help you find some on this color if your interested,

It is, but frankly they're not my style. RM is a great shoemaker and they come highly recommended but I've not purchased anything from them. Here again there's an appreciation thread on style forum for RM WillIan's and you should be able to find a gold mines worth of data there.

You really might want to listen to Wesley. But then again if you choose not to then think E.G. Galways.

I would post some pics but sine photobucket pulled that little trick I've yet to find a picture hosting site.

This is the image from SF. This gray looks almost khaki.
