Mikki I can't imagine what you are going through tonight. I'd be nuts.
Good luck. I hope you hear from her soon that everything's going great.

Thanks. I'll get over it I guess. I'm just going to miss her a lot. She's my only kid and all that stuff. And so far away.

No need to get over it. That's love. Big time parent love. And besides, you don't know this guy and have never seen where she is. How could you not be over the top with worry? So feel free to rant. We, here online, can only be of so much help but we'll offer all we can. But we'll never tell you to get over it when your heart aches for your child. That would be cruel and we love our kids too.

Lisa, how close to the Federal Building are you? They have been talking about it quite a bit lately on the news.

Thanks Art, wish I could sing it, love the lyrics. But afraid that I'll send the local dog pack into a frenzy.

And I'd give up forever to touch you
'Cause I know that you feel me somehow
You're the closest to heaven that I'll ever be
And I don't want to go home right now

And I don't want the world to see me
'Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am

What's the news been about, Art? I live north of downtown; not too far.

I didn't pay too much attention to it but they were talking about it on the news last night. I had forgotten about it and it made me think of you being that you live there. It must have been horrible. The bombing that is.

The bombing. I was driving to work near downtown when the explosion happened and it rocked my car. Within minutes police cars, fire engines and ambulances came from nowhere and I pulled over as they went screaming by. I got to work, stepped out of my car in the parking lot and wondered why there was paper and debris floating down from the sky. It was pretty surreal.

I was wondering where you may have been when it happened but didn't really want to ask. That's really something. It must have made some blast to do the damage it did. It must have been some day when that happened. One thing is to hear it on the news the other thing is to live and work close by.

I don't really have a memory of that happening in 1995, although have seen a documentary about it.

I was on holiday during the underground bombings in London 2005. Very sad.

Oh darn, I missed the lunch hour. That looked totally deeelish Art. Tell us what all was in the yummy main course. Was that a from-scratch beef stock?

Tonight I'm roasting a nice big organic chicken. Probably serving with grits and veggies.

Mikki, I can feel your anguish all the way over here to the left of you on the map. We are here to let off steam with, of course. No doubt this adventure will teach her a lot, and ask a lot of her in terms of self-reliance. We're rooting for good things.

It's a beautiful authentic and good-quality Navajo bracelet. The artist stamp is C Chee, and Chee is a Navajo name, and there are other jewelers named Chee (one of whom is famous and very collected, Mark Chee). I don't know if your Chee is directly related to those others, but surely Navajo. And contemporary: there are a few other items by him findable by Google.

It has excellent silverwork, with that thick shank (band) construction of different joined sections, plus the neat applied florals and leaves and decorative bezel. What makes it spectacular is the slight domed shape of the stone and its apparently amazing matrix and coloring--it's huge and showy.

Navajo work is often massive like this. The only question I have is the stone. I'd like to see better and more dead-on pics. I can't quite tell if this is absolutely turq from these pics (there are other minerals related to turq that did get set in bracelets), or what type of turq. I'm curious. It's not fake stone, in any case.

If you hear movement/rattling it may mean the stone has some looseness from its backing. Mounted stones like this are not 100% turq all the way through--they're put on a backing of some kind and then set in the bezel setting, often with crumpled paper behind it. I bet it's something in there that's a little loose. But as long as it's still well grabbed by the bezel, it shouldn't come out.

Pretty!
J,
Here are a few more, not sure if they are much better. Btw loved the photos of your pieces!ImageUploadedByTapatalk1362348721.772441.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1362348739.222724.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1362348765.405898.jpg

It is utterly spectacular, Dawna. It's very hard to identify mines (origins) of turquoise, even for the professionals, even holding it in hand in person: it's always great when a seller guarantees what it is, but of course that is not how things work all the time. I think we're looking at King's Manassa, Royston, or Fox turquoise. I like the greenish cast to the stone, and the areas of rust color (indicating high iron content, which is what makes turquoise tend to green), and the very watery fine webbing (veining). Does the webbing seem almost navy blue in parts? That can happen if it's subjected to dyeing in order to color over naturally lighter areas. In any case, you might check online to see other pieces in these 3 turquoises, and see if one seems likely. Not guaranteed though, lol.

Really special stone there. You got a score!

Thanks, glad you liked my pics. I have some others I may add just for fun.

That soup is called sopa minutos or minute soup. The stock is actually from milk and the ground beef. Then potatoes, noodles, hot red peppers but only for taste and spices, not sure what one's. It is very popular in the Andes countries and can be found in S. American restaurants in the US. It is very tasty and very filling for soup. The muffin is what's called an Ontario Peach muffin.

d, those are some nice jewelry.
