"J" also remember with Harry Potter it was written for older children and Tweens originally to read so how it is written is for them. It just so happened that parents and other adults started to read it and enjoy the story and it then caught fire for the second time.....

Take it easy.....Leo

Of course, just when I need glasses it doesn't even protect you anymore...

I guess you're also going to tell me that if I take them off I cannot become Superman!?

Leo, I understand that she was writing for young readers and also found a wider audience. It's just that she stands within one of the most elevated traditions of writing for children. Consider Lewis Carroll, C. S. Lewis, and Frances Hodgson Burnett--Rowling can't hold their pencil sharpener. It doesn't matter: she succeeds fabulously on her own terms. But it's something I'm aware of.

I'll try the Hobbit.

Meant to say I like the glasses too, Carl. Very "cute guy chic."

Wood...I burn a woodstove in the kitchen all winter and am frankly tired of hauling the d%$n logs into the house. Begone, cold!

It must be tiring indeed if you do it all Winter long but it is quite efficient when it comes to heating a house though.

As for the glasses, thank you kindly Jay. I must admit I spent a lot of time trying different frames, I didn't want anything that looked "hipster" so they had to be thin and I wanted them to be black so they could match everything and remain very sober (I tried some silver and grey ones but they were either too flashy or looked odd on me). In the end I got those ones as the ones with a nylon string underneath the lenses looked too much like protective glasses on me, those were the only ones who didn't look goofy, odd or weird in any way and I'm glad to say they were free!

I even tried some Ray Ban's at some point (although I'm not the type to only buy a brand name they did look better than quite a few others at that place) as some of them looked rather nice on the rack, they didn't look so bad on me but I kept telling myself that on a long term basis I would get tired of the style.

I like the glasses, Carl. And I'm impressed about the wood stove - and I'd be even more impressed if you told us you started the fire by rubbing two sticks together.

Thank you for the kind words regarding my glasses Lisa. As for starting the fire, I'm afraid I didn't do it, I'm not the best one for this duty...

...However, when I do it I usually just look at the logs and use the Force to burn them...

I don't know if I did it with those logs but I did split some wood a few times at that cottage with my friends, we also make camp fires in the Summer...although we did have one of those...

Well guys I kind of feel bad this morning, I bought myself a new toaster last week because the one I was using before was a toaster oven and it kept making a ding sound when it would turn off. Since I thought this could possibly annoy my neighbors at some point I bought a plain, regular one and plugged it yesterday...

...This morning, that very supposed-to-be quiet toaster made my fire alarm go off!

Since it was new there was some kind of a "new item" odor on it and it got worse when I started it. Mind you, there wasn't any plastic on it or inside the slots for the toasts so I didn't forget to take anything off of it but I got surprised indeed when the alarm started to beep...and there goes my good intentions and my wish to avoid making too much noise...

Hey I have one of those. Wendy got it for me one year as a Fathers Day gift" I must admit, expectations were low being electric and all. Man was I surprised. All my life I'd split wood the old fashioned way with a maul and wedges

But that little splitter splits wood WAY larger than the label says and it does it very well.
With my back as bad as it it, this year was the first time we ever bought cordwood.

Have a good 'un, boys and girls. I'm not adjusted to Daylight Savings Time yet... it sneaked up on us this year. Would you believe it wasn't until after 6pm yesterday that we realized?

Or would that be, 7pm?

Don't know. I'm a little grumpy this morning - was tough getting my 13 year old wolverine off to school. She didn't, apparently, do well with the time change, either!

Any art pottery buffs around here? This vase was a sort of impulse buy yesterday on Ebay. The seller didn't know the maker; it's unmarked, but I liked the lines of it and the glaze. Grueby? Weller? Anyhow, it will look nice on the fireplace mantle. I've been wanting to get the cluttered assorted odds-and-ends candles put away and perhaps replace them with a small collection of matte green art pottery.

Yes, it looks like it's from the Ming dynasty, 15th-century, from the reign of Emperor YzzzYzzzgong

Oh wait, best not to wind you up today, you're grumpy, right?
