Coming from Rhode Island, where one can travel from one end of the state to another in an hour or less, I keep having to remind myself that Lisa and Dawna don't just visit every weekend. There may be hundreds of miles between them.

This is one of the samples shown for Providence, RI and is pretty much how Rhode Islanders speak (but not how we drive - LOL).

I took a pic of these banana trees yesterday.

The bulb at the end of the long appendage opens up and bananas grow from there. At the top of appendage is small bananas that are hard to see in this pic.

Does someone harvest the bananas, Art? Or are they so plentiful that no one bothers?

Luppy update: Did very well yesterday, a little tired today. We go back for a blood check either tonight or tomorrow. Scary myriad of drugs and liquids.

They are not very plentiful but you see them around. No one grows them commercially that I know. They are good but about half the size of the ones that you are used to buying. But sometimes if I see a ripe one and feel like eating it then I'll pick a few. It's interesting that the stalks are very soft and filled with water. One can cut right through with one swipe of a machete and in due time the whole tree will grow back.

This is very good news! I was thinking of my precious pussycats today and how much they mean to me. I think everyone should take some time out and tell their pets that they love them.

Great news about Luppy.

Gardening update.... the girls talked me into buying some seed potatoes though I had no place to plant them.... so I spent the afternoon digging up some turf along the back fence and rerouting some metal border. Doubled our planting space, though it's still a very small area. Might be able to sneak in a pepper plant or two, though, in addition to the taters.

Dawna, are your kids on Spring Break? Mine are out until next Tuesday.

Will do, Leo. We should make you an honorary Oklahoman.

I used to love digging potatoes with my dad. It's like hunting for buried treasure.

Peppers are great, I hope you find a good spot for them!

Are potatoes supposed to be hard to grow? This idea never crossed my parents' mind, they prefer classic and easy to take care of fruits and vegetables.

I wish you good luck with them Lisa, if you make any fries please take pictures for us!

Thanks, Carl. I've never tried to grow potatoes, but I don't think they're too difficult - growing up, we always had bountiful crops. We'll soon find out. I wish I'd paid more attention to the work my parents did in the garden.

I know it's a little early yet for you to indulge your green thumb, but will you have this summer off so that you can do some digging in your parents' garden? I remember last year you spent quite a bit of time beautifying your surroundings.

Looking forward to reading your updates!

I'm afraid I may not be that lucky this Summer Lisa, I'll only have about five weeks off instead of three months like I used to have back in University, therefore I'll work the whole Summer whilst my other full time colleagues take their vacation. Still, I may help my father a bit if I have the chance!

Five weeks... I guess that's better than nothing. But not as good as three months off!

Maybe you could do some windowsill gardening. Do you have a patio at your apartment?

You are right, a five weeks vacation is quite good but it will show in my bank account and I will definitely have less free time. Still, it's definitely worth it given that I now study something I love very much.

I did think about windowsill gardening but I share my patio with my neighbor and since I've never met her and am not quite the sociable man I've never been on it. In fact, I'd much prefer to get some real indoor plants, I'm still looking for some that need very, very little light (if there are any). I could also take care of one at my girlfriend's apartment since she has her own balcony but because I am only there on weekends it wouldn't be very enjoyable or convenient.
