No, Joan Crawford was an abusive witch who treated her adopted kids like garbage. Their only revenge was the making of that film.

Oh, now I understand...

It seems like nowadays movie stars and musicians get quite the treatment from the different medias and are seen as pure monsters sometimes...I guess it's not that different from the ones that were there before them...

My understanding is that Shirley MacLaine is right up there with Joan Crawford in the crappy parent category.

Got carried away at the end, no way. Say hello to my little friend, brilliant.

Must admit, I hate old films, especially black and white. Maybe I should give them a chance. Only a few from the 60's and 70's I like, I love the Godfather.

You have my sincerest sympathy. Pets are precious. I always found that getting a new pet helped ease the loss. I hope you can do that...

Art 1- Thankfully someone else likes the old moves!! I am really soured on the current crop of movies, and have been so for quite some time. Special effects, poor acting, etc.

There are some cable channels which broadcast the old stuff, tv shows as well, and I watch them a lot.

Yes, I watch AMC and and TNC, I think it's called. I honestly don't think Tom Cruise would even be an actor if he were born in the 20's. Not just him, most of the current people. Even the camera work in Casablanca is amazing. The use of lights and so forth.

I also enjoy all the older Black and White movies and TV shows and grew up in the late 50's and 60's. Too me that's when TV and Theatre's were at their best. Sometimes I was allowed to stay up on the weekends and watch the WW II and Cowboy movies with my Dad until 2AM or 3AM in the morning. He enjoyed my company and I liked to stay up with him and spend some time together.....and not get yelled at by Mom!!!

Also on the weekends my older brother and I would get up at 5:30AM to make ourselves breakfast and then watch shows like The Big Picture(from 1951 to 1964; Documentary films produced by the United States Army Signal Corps on WW II) and Flash Gordon and such...and of course that's when there were actually cartoons on Saturday mornings(today it seems like the younger audience will only watch a show if it is in color)!!!

We didn't get our first color TV until 1968 and that's only because my Grandmother bought it as a gift to us. Saturday afternoon was the Matinee at the local theatre and it was only a quarter to see the cartoons and then the movie. We also had an S. S. Kresge Co.(1977 became Kmart)in the same plaza and we could get penny candy for the Matinee. Today it seems like there are very few new ideas in Hollywood as for years now they have been producing "Remakes" of " Remakes" of many older Classic B & W movies. How many different ways can they make "King Kong" and shove it to us in the theatre's???

Take it easy.....Leo

My younger son is 28 and we get together and watch "route 66" especially when it was filmed in a city I know. (They filmed on the road-had 18 wheelers haul the cars and the recording equipment. Oddly, very little of the show was recorded on Rt 66.)

It is fun to see actors getting their start on shows in that vintage. Of course the original "Twilight Zone" stands the test of time. I doubt that people will be watching reruns of "Amish Mafia" 50 years from now.

Ironically enough, I don't think I've ever sat through all of Casablanca.

Surely you liked Wizard of Oz? Gone With the Wind?

Casablanca - one of the best movies of all time:

Of all the gin joints in all the world, she had to walk into mine.

Play it again Sam

Here's looking at you kid

This is the start of a beautiful friendship

We'll always have Paris

You'll regret it. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow. But someday, soon and for the rest of your life.

As time goes by.

Okay...I digress. Saw Casablanca mentioned in the thread and had to stop by :).

Gone with the wind is one that I don't care for. Wizard of Oz is excellent. I still look for the string holding up the lions tail. You can see it. And you know Lisa, I have a soft spot for Judy.

Is that the one with Michael Jackson as the Scarecrow, it was ok. Was Gone with the Wind the one with Ratty and Mole and Toad Hall. Yes watched that as a kid.

I remember going to the Saturday mantinee at the local hometown theater when I was a kid. We got to see a cartoon and a feature, sometimes 2 for a stinking dime. The candy machine (the greyish green color with the mirror and the pull-knobs) was a nickel.

My parents would go to the evening show for a quarter. It later went up to 35 cents. When it hit 50 cents my parents quit going since my Dad thought they were cheating him. Well, he thought that about everyone. He didn't have a Rolex BTW.

Art, wonderful wildlife photos. You have some very patient friends in the duck world.

Wes, I think you're thinking of the Wind in the Willows, and I honestly can't tell if you're pulling our leg about not recognizing the old films. I thought some of them were absolutely required viewing by every human with electricity and a few bucks in their pocket, but maybe I'm wrong.

I'm of course a huge fan of old movies. I love mobster movies, WWII movies, John Ford (for my money, The Searchers is the best American movie ever made), and on it goes. When I was a kid I went to the movies every Saturday to see scary movies, the ones with Martians with giant cabbage heads. Screaming and throwing popcorn seemed the right thing to be doing with my time.

Yep. I love Judy Garland. And yes, I've seen the string a few times. Have you noticed that Dorothy trips going up the steps, I think while holding the Lion's long train?

GOne with the Wind - chick flick, maybe.
