D, seems like it rained the entire night! We had wind and just a short volley of hail, but nothing scary. How did you guys fare?

We checked on bunny to see if she was snuggled into her little nest, warm and dry. She was hopping around in the screened area, getting rained on. This is the same bunny that will head right for the sprinklers, too. She likes keeping cool, apparently.

She's a wild bunny! ha

We got just a little rain, which we are thankful for, since we had just put out a few thousand dollars worth of fertilizer and it needed rain to make it effective. whew. Quite a bit of wind, but I didn't see anything blown around except some outdoor pillows.

We've gotten plenty of rain so far between yesterday, last nite and this morning. The weather people say we will have rain and thunderstorms all day today. There is flooding all over Chicagoland and Pam this morning could not make it to work and had to turn back and come home. Where she works is under water and this morning earlier many of the Expressways were closed due to flooding. I've heard estimates that where we live we've received over 4" of water so far.....sure hope the power does not go out as the sump pump is working overtime!!!

Take it easy and I guess I should of been building a boat.....Leo

Update...the northern suburbs have gotten as much as 6 plus inches of rain and in the southern suburbs(where we live)4 plus inches of rain. The Deep Tunnel which was built years ago to handle rains such as these was full to capacity at 12:30AM this morning and the locks were opened to release the water into Lake Michigan. People are still currently stuck in traffic on expressways due to the flooding and Northwest of Chicago Metro area they have gotten as much as 9" of rain. The people who live along the rivers in the area have been sandbagging since yesterday and I'm sure they are still working hard at it as I write.....my back yard has become a small pond!!!

Hey Lisa...do you think Dave could build a boat for me...and fast???

What do you think the chances are of flying into O'Hare today? I have someone stuck in an airport (traveling by AA) already delayed several hours.

This morning when I left for work I heard that both Chicago airports were not allowing incoming flights. Not sure if that's changed, but the system is probably all hosed by now.

Thanks. That's what I was afraid of. Already delayed 3 hours, no telling when or if they'll full-out cancel.

Sounds like a total mess in Chicago.

I'm not really certain and have not heard anything on the news...I know yesterday many flights were cancelled and delayed and would imagine more of the same today. I did hear they have had about 6" of rain so far or maybe a little more. They should probably check with the different carriers to see what may be available!!!

After reading what Bob said...it may be faster for them to rent a car and drive bypassing Chicago all together.....

The county I live in which includes Chicago is called Cook County and yesterday it was declared a disaster area...luckily we are fine with no flooding damage or problems what so ever. We are definitely lucky and relieved that at least this storm is done. Actually today though, we got everything from snow flurries, sleet and rain to strong winds.....I would imagine soon that Spring's warmer weather will arrive!!!

Take it easy.....Leo

I glad to hear your friend was able to finish his travels and get home. This Spring has been strange but I should be used to the weather and the seasons here because they always have been unpredictable!!!

I'm waiting to see what happens with the Mississippi River when all the snow up north in Minnesota and Canada thaws...there is going to be some major flooding.....

Take it easy.....Leo

I'd been buying eggs from the Bethany feed store - customers bring them in to exchange for feed - and they taste so good.

These little girlies will live in the brooder I've set up in the bedroom for several weeks - I guess they're house chickens at the moment.

My kids are already in love with 'em. I hope they'll stay healthy - we'll do the best we can with them. Having the little ducky last year was good practice.

Lisa, your baby chicks look like fun...who's more excited you or your young ladies? And is Dave thrilled he gets to build another coop? Have you picked out a favorite yet? Who's bedroom are they going to be living in? Have you introduced them to Leah yet? Have the girls picked out favorites yet? Should you of bought four so you could each have a favorite? How old do they have to be before they start producing eggs? Have I asked enough questions yet??? LOL!!!

When Dave builds the pen, be sure he buries the wire fencing 10 inches deep. I would also bend it under bricks or cheap pavers all around the perimeter. Don't want any varmints thinking they can dig under and get at those chickens.
Pesky varmints.

Lisa, it's so fantastic that you're creating these opportunities for the girls. Who knows, you may be growing a veterinarian or animal sciences scholar. Plus the chickies could not be cuter!

Went to see my neighbor farmer, who has (in addition to the very best eggs) a field of new kids (Boers and Boer/Nubian crosses). They sound just like human kids crying, lol. My own lambs are due any time now.

Yep, as you know we have raccoons and possums around here... and just two days ago - this was weird - it looks like a hawk was killed by something in our back yard. I can't imagine what - a bigger hawk, or maybe an owl? I don't think a cat could catch a hawk. I'm sure Leah saw the whole thing but she's not talking.

Good idea about burying the wire fencing... we're looking at pre-made coops and pens that have wire floors, as well.

We're all pretty excited, Leo. The trip to the feed store was really fun - as was getting to pick the three we wanted. They're staying in the little sitting room off of the master bedroom - it's quiet and not drafty there. They should start laying eggs in about six months. Haven't introduced them to Leah... maybe soon. No favorites yet, but I love Lorraine's little fuzzy legs (she'll have feathers on her shanks and feet when she gets older). And three is plenty - I was only planning on two but worried that if one died the other would be alone.

We're all big fans of The Big Bang Theory show... . And the name "Lorraine" came from the cartoon "Adventure Time."

Baby goats are so cute! Did they send some eggs home with you? I have some blue "Easter Egger" eggs in the fridge right now.

How many lambs are you expecting?

Home from my grandmother's funeral. I've had one rotten six or so weeks. After drama, more drama, over the top drama, bombings an hour south (including an area I worked in, and losing an alumna) my sister and brother in law got a hair across their butts and defriended me on facebook for daring to be annoyed at all the comments blaming all Muslims for the bombing. Now my daughter isn't speaking to me for some perceived slight. Can I just start the year over yet?

Mikki that sucks.
No one can hurt you like family eh. That's why I prefer my friends to be online and anonymous behind made up names. Just kidding of course.
First, I'm really sorry that such a dark cloud is hovering over you. The mess in Boston has everyone on edge and naturally some prejudices and biases are surfacing and conflicting with our deep seated urge to be tolerant.
Second I still can't help but to be concerned about your daughter pulling away like that. I thought all along that it wasn't very gentlemanly for this BF to ask her to move and now my paranoia has me imagining he could be a jerk, being sneaky, seperate you, drive a wedge between you. I'm just an overprotective dad. I don't know you, your daughter or the whole situation. This just raised my spidey senses. I hope it all gets resolved soon.
