That does sound like a bit of an awkward situation, Sometimes people can be overly enthusiastic or not quite sure how to start a conversation.

So a young guy who's with his parent is showing you some love for your watch, asks a question about it and you reply "It's a watch" as you walk away?

Classy move! I'm sure you were worried about getting mugged by this young guy with his parent watching in the restaurant. SMH...totally obnoxious IMO.

This has to be one of the most ridiculous threads I have seen. Similar things have happened to me several times. Smile and say thanks. It happens with nice cars too.
This really made you uncomfortable?? It's a compliment for Pete sake....just say thank you

Similar thing happened to me. I was in line at a Starbucks. A kid in a wheelchair asked me about my watch. Fearing for my life I threw my hot coffee in his face, grabbed a nearby broom handle and shoved it into the spokes of his wheelchair to prevent his pursuit and ran to the closest police station. Close call but I obviously lived to tell the tale!

Just be happy they didn't yell "how much did you pay for it?" across the room. That's usually the next question. Alternative next question can also be "Is it real?"

Yep, I agree. The thing that is surprising about this thread is how many people imagine it to be an “uncomfortable” experience. When I first read it, I thought it sounded like watch snobbery to the Nth degree…But obviously there are folks who think differently.

Tinder and Grindr didn't work for me either. Winder is the bomb.

I get it, the brand spends a great deal of money on marketing to make the logo and the watches recognizable and recognized, but some models are a little less flashy and you might hope to fly under the radar when wearing it and not expect attention. It could be disconcerting to have someone call you out in a crowd, but it's going to happen if you cross paths with a brand fan.

Relax, you’re probably wearing a stainless Rolex. You act like you’re hiding a rainbow Daytona. It’s not that big of a deal.

I thought the same! Haha people acting like they are wearing some highly limited watch worth hundreds of thousands.

I actually feel sorry for the kid

Just “Thank you” and move on; people’s way of admiring can be different than what you would prefer. Nodding to acknowledge other watch enthusiasts is what I do. I only have discussions when the other party brings it up.

Sitting at different restaurant bars eating and my wife and I always seem to encounter that one person who spots our watches and says something positive and it makes for a quick back and forth..which never bothers me but that being said I’m always watching when I leave..you never know..but that can go both ways They don’t know either..Just need to be aware now days
