Regardless, my statements are not meant to rain on your parade or be mean, I simply found the whole thread a bit bizarre and voiced my opinion. That is after all why we have a forum...
Look dude, I pay my own way and I buy my own watches. I'm 37 years old and have done quite well as the CFO of multiple companies. I can buy as many watches as my little heart desires if I was so inclined but I made a promise to my wife that I would only have one expensive watch.

However, what irritates me about your "opinion" is that you make it sound like I'm sitting around expecting someone to pay my way for things. What you don't seem to be able to grasp in this entire thread is that my father in law was the person who said he was going to buy me one recently. It was HIS idea, not mine. It was during Christmas time that I posted this thread and I thought that this might be the time that he would give it to me. I can't figure out what is so freaking "bizarre" about that. It also pisses me off that you are now questioning my values because I am sharing with fellow enthusiasts about something that was exciting to me at the time and with people who I thought would understand this excitment.

Now if I was some whiny little "Occupy Wall Street" moron wanting someone to pay for my life while I sit around on my butt, well THEN I could see where you were coming from.

Oh well, I didn't mean to spew too much negativity on your your jolly thread, I just found the whole giddiness somewhat bizarre. It is not like I know your life story or circumstances, it is quite easy to misread the whole thing. Sorry for any offense caused.

Here is a final thought: break the tradition by buying your FIL a watch instead! :-)

I tried to buy him a watch but he declined. He has three already and only wears two. Wants me to spend the money on the family.

By the approximate age of 30, I stopped having expectations for my family members' behavior and since that time I have not been disappointed.

Alright, Dan! Enough is enough. I just saw this post and plowed through six pages of comments looking for a watch. We're expecting a watch. So first thing tomorrow you march right out to your AD and deliver the goods to TRF. Ok?

That is all.

It is probably the longest, "what I hope to get for Christmas" thread in a long while...I say keep it going until you win the PLatty...

"Dude", this whole thread is utterly tasteless. No wonder TRF gets targeted with so much hatred and so many attacks from trolls who have previously been banned and register under nicks to jab at the ridiculousness that goes on here. Keep up the backslapping boys. It's no wonder why so many Rolex owners are perceived as complete a$$holes.

So I am tasteless and now the reason Rolex owners are perceived as complete a$$holes? You have a very interesting perspective.

No, havent you read? This is a classless thread that has terrible values. Also, this thread caused global warming, the earthquakes in Japan, and the Mayans to declare 2012 as the end of the world...........

I feel this one's about to get locked down which is a shame.

Dan, I hope you get your watch and it has been a great post...except for the few sour grapes.

i honestly don't get your point. i work super hard for my money and enjoy this little habit. some have more, some have less. i think dan is simply saying that he wants a watch for xmas. if this is tasteless then you might as well consider the entire western culture tasteless. malls are packed to the gills even today.

while i can't quite have the same hopes, i think it is great that he can. good for him. too bad scrooge. i have all sorts of other things to say, but in my opinion calling people names is completely tasteless. i suppose to each to their own.

i also have not see any targeted hatred, but then again, i am pretty new.

once again i say, "i like your attitude Dan". and i hope it happens for you.

Come on guys.. Give Dan a break.. That is enough. Dan, thank you for sharing. If you really like the watch, just buy it, beside, it not a major luxury (it is only about 10k) most importantly, don't disappoint yourself. You work hard for your money, you must enjoy the fruits as well otherwise what is the point of working hard? .. Merry Christmas everyone and cheers! .. Jennifer

Seems to me some people's sensitivities are getting on top of them. There are all sorts of threads posted across this forum...and they cater for all sorts of 'tastes'.

Provocative/insulting responses are not OK. So let's keep them at bay. Anymore and they'll be met with infractions...but it's Christmas and as with the traffic wardens in our area leniency is the order of the day

It is also important that those who wish to express an opinion are able to do so without being made to feel like they can't...especially if it's been done in a clear and constructive way.

Now - I'm going to go and enjoy another holiday ocean lunch

Dan,

I think your thread was posted as a Rolex/watch enthusiast and was completely meant for all of us to enjoy as if it were us that was thinking a family member or close friend might gift us a gorgeous time piece. How cool would it be to get a timeless watch from someone we respect and admire. I appreciate you opening up to us (TRF) as it was enjoyable to follow along and who knows when that nice watch may be coming your way. It wasn't about the watch or the cost of it, it was about who it was coming from. Whether it comes in the form of a Sub C or something else you are a good a man and I thank you for sharing, it was fun for you to open it up to us when you didn't know what the result would be. Cheers to you!
