The Diver is one of the best looking and most popular AP ROO on the market. Those who are not fond of it...to each his own, and for those who likes it...Cheers!

AP diver is a classier watch IMO. DSSD is a gimmick watch; no one dives to depths over 120 ft., and the AP diver well exceeds that depth by over three fold....

Hublot 4000mm
Its made of titanium and for me the quality is high. I know most people here get stuck to their mind between rolex ap pp and panerai. They stuck into the brand more. Anything made by PP, even though its look damn ugly they appreciate it. For me, i appreciate design quality rather than brand. So 1st i take hublot oceanographic. |

Because people here are brand minded. I have touch ap diver. I dont impressed with the quality. The bridges between the rubber and the case is sharp. I rubbed with my thumb i feel hurt. I dont like a quality like this.

Perhaps you meant AP, ".........Anything made by PP, even though its look damn ugly they appreciate it." and I agree with you looking at some of the die hards here. My own view is that some of the AP models with its choice of colours, face and the buttons, look like something Ultraman or the Power Rangers would wear.
That said, I like AP for some of the models. Quote:

DSSD is just too big, for me anyway. Not a fan of the bulkiness of the piece. Would much rather a regular sub c or another piece in general. Have u tried both on?

Both are nice can't really compare it side by side, apple and orange, but personally I will vote for Diver. Tried DS on wrist, not that good looking than a Diver, my 2 cents

I'd probably take a Sinn U1 over a DSSD, and it is about 1/10th of the cost.

Rolex have green and leopard watches, Omega orange, IWC and Breitling yellow ones - all brands have colourful, non-conservative and even garish parts of their collection.

Don't understand the DSSD.... It's just an overblown submariner??
On the other hand, AP diver is quite the watch... I'll take the AP any day ... |

Now I'm quite fond of the Diver and tried one on, and it did "look" fantastic and felt very comfortable to wear, yet when I put my Deepsea back on I was truly pleased to have chosen it. The Deepsea is a bit heavy, but talking about it's over engineering is lame and shows a lack in logic. Like everyone here is running around timing races and events with all these chronos that even though light weight are incredibly and equally as large as the DSSD. So it's all relative and personal preference, so if you don't like the DSSD, don't just complain about it's engineering, just say you don't like it, it's not for you. |

The thread that keeps on going...
Whatever floats your boat..taste is subjective and certainly one will appeal to some and another to others.

has anyone even considered price yet? isnt the ap about double the price of the dssd?
that has to account for something. i wish people would stop thinking the dssd is some huge beast of a watch.. ITS NOT THAT BIG!! 43mm. put it next to a 47mm pam, or super avenger etc. to see how small it really is. its a little on the tall side, but overall its not that big of a watch. in the pic above it looks tiny next to the AP. |

The DSSD is big, tall and heavy. The thing I don't like about the AP Diver is the crown at the 10:00 position. I know it serves a purpose, but for me it's a deal breaker

Actually, the in-house 3120, which is considered by many to be one of the finest automatic movements made, compares more than favorably with the mass-produced, workhorse 3135, surpassing it in several areas, in fact.
And then there's the finishing, which isn't even a contest (I'll let you guess who comes out the worse for wear in this comparison). This, of course, applies to the case, dial and hands as well. Does this mean that the Diver is better than the DSSD? No, but it does mean that it's more expensive (human hands cost more than machines). For those who value things like hand-finishing and traditional watchmaking, the Diver is more than worth the premium. Just sayin'. Regards, Adam PS - The MSRP for the Diver is almost $19K; the MSRP for the DSSD is kissing $13K. When AD discounts are taken into account, the price difference is even less. |

I would be willing to bet that there is not one watch, based on aesthetics, that all of us could agree on. So far, based on everything I have read in this thread, I would pick.....not today!

Dont really like the DSSD. Way too thick for a daily watch imo. But in tetms of movement, i kinda prefer 3135. The 3120 time setting is a pain. The min hand tends to jump whenever i push the crown in!!

Try winding the crown only a few times just to get the second hand moving (maybe 5 to 10 turns of the crown) then set the time/date and then wind it to full capacity. I've found that if I set the time/date when the mainspring isn't fully wound it won't jump when you push the crown back in.

I see you are a sucker for Rolex marketing...in what way is it better?
Do some research and you will find out it isn't any better at all - in fact it isn't as 'hard' as 316L. The only time it is of benefit having 904L is when you drop your watch in sulphuric acid...but you aren't going to be putting your hand in to get it if you do! |
