Love all Miner wines, they make GREAT stuff and reasonably priced! Here is another reasonable NAPA standout

$90 and $110 per bottle retail isn't what I'd call "reasonably priced".

Roger you may need to recalibrate, Napa wines are not sub 100 dollars anymore, JMHO but that's just a harsh wantonebad reality. Please if you have a sub 100 dollar all Napa winner 92 points or higher I'd love t hear about it!!

We have some highly rated and expensive wines in the cellar, and will probably buy some more in the future, but we have come to the realization when weighing apples and oranges that more often than not, we'd rather buy 4 really good bottles of $25 wine than one outstanding $100 bottle, thus the "reasonably priced" comment.

I was being geographically specific, I agree with the sentiment, however if you love Napa wines that have consistent ratings in the realm of Miner and Peacock getting bellow $100 isn't realistic.

Mark - I just picked up some 2002 and 2007 Match Vineyards Napa Cabs at around $45/btl. Haven't had them before but the reviews were great and they are discounting to non-members right now - word is they might be dissolving as a winery. I'll be trying the 2002 Butterdragon Hill Cab tomorrow night for the first time. If it ranks, I'll let you know.

I haven't tried those, but I do still buy $100 bottles from Chappellet - their Prichard Hill Cab is amazing. They've been organic since they started in the 60's and produce amazing wines year over year. I like pretty much everything they make from Chardonnay (not something I drink unless it's French), Chenin Blanc, Mtn Cuvee, Las Piedras, and Cab Francs.

So I recently attended the California Wine Fair and tried ~30 different Californian chardonnays. I didn't find any that I liked as much as Wente's Riva Ranch or that even came close in oaky, buttery, creamy goodness. I have been finding the Riva Ranch unique so far but there much be others out there that are doing it similarly good or better. I understand that overly oaked chards are out of fashion right now but there must be others...

Until that event I had honestly never tried a Zinfandel, was blown away by how awesome some of them were.

The other thing I am on the hunt for is a spicy, smoky, peppery syrah. Right now my favourite is Saint Cosme, Cotes-du-Rhone. I have found every other syrah, shiraz or petite-syrah to be lacking in peppery punch. Any suggestions?

I would recommend Plumpjack Syrah - it's about just what you described you're looking for I'll go grab a bottle out of the cellar and post a pic.

Plumpjack wasn't one of the ~50 vineyards at the wine fair but I will ask around to see if anyone brings them in.

Had family visiting our new baby and enjoyed some of my favorites.

If you have an opportunity to go to Napa, I highly suggest touring Palmaz vineyards. Quite possibly the most impressive gravity-fed facilities in the world. The wine itself is just as impressive.

On the cooking note...

We just prepared our fondue night - some teryaki marinated chicken, seasoned filet, and some shrimp with an awesome dry rub we picked up at Dean and Deluca (citrus ginger). And made a fresh citrus / chicken base cooking style.

May end up back in the cellar before the night is up!!!

Went well with pot roast in the slow cooker, decanted for 30 mins initially but seemed to open up a lot better at around the hour point.
