Congrats Tony - the YM is one of my favourites but it is a diver styled model and totally different in character to the Daytona I feel. I'm on my second Daytona (white dial) and really wish the hands were more noticeable. The watch is the most comfortable I have worn and feels so good on my 7.25" wrist. I may decide to sell but would be tempted to replace the hands or even dial. The problem is that Rolex won't service it without returning it to its original state and, also, who does such work in the UK at reasonable cost?

I love the watch and this is my grail but exactly the same cons are keeping me away from purchase.
Hard to justify spending 12 k USD and still have cons. At least for me. |

Excellent revived thread. The Yahtmaster is a perfect fit for you- and the blue dial is certainly nice...
Cheers

Congrats on the new watch, but the Yachtmaster isn't 42mm, it's 40mm.

I simply never loved my Daytona. It didn't last long.

Personal opinion only, but if I were buying a Rolex model in that price range I would go for a Yachtmaster, platinum dial. I have the same opinion you have on the Daytona. Don't own one, but a buddy let me try his white SS model for a weekend, and I fell out of love with the idea of owning one.
I would give it some more time, but you are not alone!

And you base this insightful statement on?
Anyway, this thread reminds my of my first wife. Everybody loved her. She was very complicated and hard to read. Yet I hung on to her thinking one day I would grow to love her. After 12 years I finally let her go. Cost me way more than the price of a Daytona. Second time around I got a much older model. Loved her from day one. Understated, classic, easy to read...celebrating 20 years together in a few weeks. Moral of the story...Buy Vintage.

I wouldn't use the word 'Love' for a mass produced piece of metal. the watch is nice nothing wrong with it, its a chrono, bigger lume is used in sports and underwater watches.

Sold my white face 116520 after about 5 years. Never really sang to me once the hype and excitement died down, and I kept wanting to wear my green SubC instead.
I recently tried on a rose gold Daytona with the diamond baguette markers. Very sharp watch, but I think I'll stick with Subs for now. |

I'm exactly opposite. I never really understood the hype surrounding the Daytona early in my Rolex collecting days......Now, it is one of my favorites. I personally cannot wait to get my next one.

In my opinion, visibility is key for any chronograph and it's definitely the Daytona's Achilles heel. However, I do think the white dial is much more legible than the black.
Try it for a while and see if it grows on you. Thing is...it won't become more legible.

Thanks all. After having the Yachtmaster for while, I think I made the right decision flipping the Daytona for it. Gets much more wrist time, looks great and really easy to read. I would never bash a great, iconic watch like the Daytona. It just wasn't for me.

This is what I did. I really wanted to love the modern Daytona but it didn't work for me braces hard to read and I felt the bezel was too shiny. Here's what I ended up with.
