Sweaty, bloody, knuckles and tired, weathered hands make a Rolex shine more beautifully than what it ever will worn on a hairless, vernal arm under a bape hoody.

And before someone says it, don't post age and personal circumstances on a public forum if you don't want all those details considered in the various responses. You can otherwise be part of the nameless, faceless, community of "incoming" threads as simply a watch enthusiast.

Anyway, let's face it, you don't care to hear about what I think and you've received enough miguided "congratulations" from others to convince you that the world is somehow supposed to work in that really grotesque way. Some people just grow up differently.

I wish you well bro. But I'll stay out of the celebration of unearned opulence.

I will, however, say, congrats on s.a.t. success. Use your smarts to change the world.

All the best.
Speaking of growing up differently, I'd have to say you haven't done a very good job in the maturity department. Do you really need to put down a teenager at your age, whatever that may be

Let's talk about watches instead, and I'll say the 114060 does not retail for $10k USD.

Well said.

We all come from vast backgrounds here, but we're brought together by our interest in watches and that's exactly what brought him here...Be nice!

46 year old here, stop caring about watches and chase the bootie. Put the rest of your cash in an index fund.

Don't go there man. Because doing that cherry picks what I wrote. If I was trying to "put him down," explain then how I ended my post.

Oh, so that undermines your thesis? Hmmm ... how ya handling that? My guess is, you won't. You'll just throw out more straw men and hope something sticks.

There was no "putting anyone down." Even if you read that literally.

But you know what, it wasn't meant to be taken literally. It was a trope.

Doubt me?

Then explain my "bloody, weathered, hands" comment. Here, I'll help, it's representative of someone who has worked and toiled for something that at one point may have seemed unattainable. And so they beat the piss out of themselves to get it.

But they get it.

My hands aren't actually physically bleeding right now. Are yours?

But despite that, my hands are still bleeding - if you get my drift; I'm sure yours have too.

None of this is literal. And why would it be? I'm an attorney who knows bespoke suits and manicured hands more than I know anything about sweat and physical labor.

Though I've been there.

Just like bape (a youth style), hairless arm (still maturing), vernal (young) are all illustrative of youth and relative inexperience. We've all been there. And many more will follow us.

So where again is the "put down"?

Ahhh yes, there was none. And I'm not apologizing for expressing myself more vividly than what you may be accustomed to.

So try again, maybe?

People are financially in so different positions that to some 10 is much and to some 1000000 is not that much, calculations of buying power are easy. You cannot choose where you born to, it is not a fault if someone has wealthy family. It is just important to understand the position you are in, the position of 1% or less. Showing wealth and enjoying it will bring problems and just be aware of that and learn to face objections with clever diplomacy without offending. Douchebags will never face extinction.

You have many advice messages here, but it is normal as many members of this forum are dads of kids so it is natural reaction to take care and give advice :) You will notice it in yourself someday.

And, enjoy your Rolex!

I know you're hands aren't literally bleeding Just saying there's no need to throw daggers at him, the whole context was a bit demeaning. I think it's great that there is a younger generation of Rolex enthusiasts and we should be more welcoming

How about we agree to disagree on the context (but I respect your opinion). At the end of the day it comes down to differences in parenting. My family is wealthy. But some things I want my son and daughters to accomplish on their own. Experience has shown me that they'll benefit from that.

No right or wrong, just opinion.

And I'll toast to your last point. I'd love for more folks to enjoy this hobby as much as we do.

Take care friend.

If it was just a watch, we would all wear G shocks. They're reliable, durable, and accurate as a top.

No one wears a Rolex because of its extraordinary timekeeping capacity. Maybe relative to other Swiss automatics, then yes. But not solely.

Wearing a Rolex suggests a measure of accomplishment, success, and means.

If you're hands aren't bleeding in that pursuit, then I don't know what to tell you.

I respect your passion and maybe i am on the opposite side of the spectrum with this. i LOVE my watches, but i try not to forget that they are luxury items. i measure success in non-material ways such as supporting a family and building savings/investments. i promise that i am younger and less successful than you- but to me, watches are for fun and something that merely spark conversations. Maybe it's just the way i was raised....

OP: Congrats on an amazing watch and the start of a hopefully long and serious collection with an appreciation for horology.

I do find it interesting that we can praise members for buying their unborn/newborn child a birth watch but when a 16 year old comes on here with a watch purchased by his father he gets some backlash.

Maybe it has something to do with the marketing. Rolex: "a crown for every achievement" making you feel like you have to achieve something to deserve a rolex. While Patek says "you never really own a patek. you just take care of it for the next generation." More focused on the tradition of passing on luxury to your children.

SOoOoOooo back to the watch... Congrats on the incoming! Great starter reference and I can't wait to see the SD43 post down the line. I'm headed to a release party this week to finally try it on myself(along with a few SkyD's)!

Cars and watches go hand-in-hand, and your family has some great taste in both. I'm hopeful for my Porsche at some point in life; but my Daytona will have to keep my mind racing until then!

Congrats on the SAT's as well... I wish I had known the value of education before I had to self-source it all after the fact. At least now I can learn whatever I want! Funny how it still rotates around music, cars and watches.

Good luck in college! Your new wrist candy will (hopefully) remind you what time your classes are... I tend to get lost in the sheer pretty-factor and forget to actually read the face(downside to Rolex?).

P.S. Don't mind the haters, enjoy your watch in good health, and a tick-tocky Welcome to TRF! We are a wild and varied bunch, as you can see

A heartfelt congrats from me!. I would love to have had the opportunity to have such a nice watch at such an early age. I wish I could only be around to see you post about it later in your life after having it accompany you on the next 50, 60, or, 70 years of your life's journeys!

As soon as I saw the thread title in the forum I knew this would generate an emotive thread.

To the OP, congratulations. The most important thing you should note other than enjoying your beautiful watch is to value it and never flip it. You only ever sell your first Rolex once and it is more often than not a choice most come to regret later in life.

Take good care of it and it will take good care of you with a lifetime of faithful service and become a part of your life. Beware where the youthfulness of your life will take you as it may not always be appropriate to wear it.

I hope in years to come, you post back here and share with us all the journey of you and your Rolex together, because thats what makes a big part of ownership of these fine watches probably the most rewarding aspect.

Anyone throwing shade at someone for having a watch because of their age is acting a bit ignorant. It's a watch. It's money, some people have it to spend, on watches.

I see 16 as a great age to get a SubC btw. It's not a diamond bezel piece of gaudy nonsense, it's a subtle timepiece that will last a lifetime. If the OP is careful he can give this watch to his kid someday, that in itself is in some ways priceless.

Getting a financial leg up from your parents is nothing to be ashamed about. This kid seems intelligent and well grounded; that's what matters.

Congrats on the watch, the SATs, and the positive return on your investments.

Also, reading some of these comments... He's 16, not 50. You can afford some investment risk at 16. Also, investing in a 401k makes no sense when he's not investing a paycheck.

OP, sorry for all the hating you've received on this forum. I guess it can be expected any time someone your age posts about getting a nice watch.

That said, regardless of whether or not someone buys a watch with their own money, whether or not they "deserve" it because of a perfect SAT score, or how young or old each member is, we are on here to talk about a shared interest in a brand of fine timepieces. Regardless of how or when we got them and what it took to get to this point, we all have a mutual appreciation of Rolex watches. Giving someone a hard time about what is appropriate and when someone could or should get a Rolex is not the point. I always think its cool when younger guys (myself included I guess, although now 28 :/) like watches. Most people under 30 couldn't care less. The OP seems like he has a good head on his shoulders and if his parents wanted to get him a great gift, more power to him. I say congrats!

Well I would like to say thank you to everyone who has wished me luck and to everyone who has congratulated me. I think the important thing that this thread really pointed out is how different all of us actually are from each other but we all come together over one similar item... Watches. As many have told me, there will be people who disagree with you and that's OK. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and I think it's very interesting to see how someone else may see this. I look forward to sharing my adventures with my Sub and hopefully a new SD.
