I would not be bent out of shape if my AD requested to hold on to the warranty card for 12 months. If I had an emergency and needed to sell the watch prior to physical possession of the card, I am pretty sure arrangements could be made with the AD or Rolex to have the card sent. And honestly, in a dire circumstance, my main focus would be to liquidate fast, even if that meant taking less since the card is still being held for x months. That's just me, though. I know it's a hassle to buy with certain rules and restrictions in place, but I see it as part of what comes with the territory, as far as certain coveted pieces are concerned. I have no problem with such policy as my intent is to keep, wear and enjoy the watch. Also, truth be told, in 30 years of Rolex ownership, I have never had to send in a watch for repair, under warranty. Only regular services every 7-10 years. If I go on a list, it is to acquire a 'hard to get' piece. I have no intention of flipping it for a profit, or re selling. So waiting for the card is a no issue for me.

I would mind.

Good point. But what if you are on the other side, with just enough cash to buy at msrp but just no stock available. Meanwhile the 2nd hamd dealer next door is selling brand new ones for 1.5x msrp? Would you appreciate the dealership for discouraging this?

Spot on. If this is instituted across the board it will become the new normal when purchasing a Rolex (either from an AD or Grey Dealer). No big deal.

Lot's of drama for now but by this time next year it will be just standard practice.

I can see Rolex taking it to the next level with a reduced 12 month warranty extendable to 5 years for the registered keeper only.

I would never purchase from this AD. If I have cultivated my relationship and respect for them, they need to do the same for me. And if I buy something, I want all items related to that purchase at the time of sale.

Good, a bit of proactive deterrence to flippers and a win for us keepers. Bravo AD, bravo!

removing stickers is fine... but withholding the warranty card is utter nonsense

If you agree to the terms set forth it is wholly legal.

Ford plans on making one GT a day until 2020, or about 260 a year. Vehicles produced in 2017 and 2018 are reserved for selected GT buyers, 2019 vehicles for buyers passed over in the initial selection process, and 2020 vehicles for new customers.

Rolex makes over 800,000 watches a year; so the GT is a little bit more exclusive. I can't say for sure as I don't have the means to own one; but at $400,000 a copy, I'm pretty sure the owner's manual and warranty papers are in the glove box at purchase time. Rolex is holding back part of what a buyer paid for. Very different situation.

It seems to me it’s the exact same type of situation.

Wow. Being held hostage for a watch? My money paid for everything that comes with it makes it my watch. It’s buying a car cash and they keep the tittle for a year. This is madness!

I will not have a PROBLEM with it! If my intentions are to buy it to wear and enjoy it, the AD holding the warranty card is not an issue.
If the buyer’s intentions are different perhaps I can see how these terms could be an inconvenience.

Just my $.02

Maybe moving forward they can just totally not have the warranty card at all! Would that be possible. I mean, if you think about it, maybe?

Never had an AD leave stickers on and don't understand why people even talk about them. I'm all for wanting everything in the package but I've never sold a rolex. would a sale price would be materially different if you didn't include both tags or a bezel protector?

I’m in agreement that if you’re keeping the watch it’s not very impactful. However it’s just way too big brother for me. I don’t like a corporation but controlling me. I don’t appreciate terms and conditions as part of a standard transaction.
