I've always complained of the lack of the 0 before 5. That was one thing I couldn't unsee on mine and having a Milgauss I let it go for an Expll. Now, I'd like to sell the Expll for the new AK..

The “05” is a big visual improvement, but I’m still a pass.

I agree completely, why the 3,6,9? Either make it resemble a gauge or don't....but don't half and half it lol

After seeing the YouTube video comparison from WatchAdvisor, the new Air King has finally won me over. It’s thinner, more symmetrical and the dial looks cleaner without the white gold 3-6-9 markers.

I may now request this from my AD.

It's modeled after the Bloodhound chrono, which had both on two different dials, though the 05-55 on the Bloodhound were for the stop watch.

I guess it's something that you either like or you don't like. It's never bothered me, but I do think the addition of lume to the 3, 6, 9 is a big improvement.

To me this is the quirkiest Rolex watch, with the Milgauss a close second.

much better; still, the second most unbalanced, controversial dial Rolex has ever made (non-gemstone)

I have a similar feeling but it's hard to tell from videos and pictures.

anybody seen them next to each other to confirm?

I like the old one better … a lot of people want an air king secretly but no one want to wear the entry level watch . TRuth . If the air king was retailed around 10k everyone will be talking about it .

If there's no 369, why call it Air-King?

I don't hate the Air King. I never really have.

The real question is absent the inability to get GMTs, Subs and Daytona's, could the Air King stand on its own?

I just feel sometimes that people start convincing themselves that the Air King is now great looking because it is relatively obtainable vs. the GMTs of the world and has been refreshed.

Rolex is systematically going through it's lineup trying to make formerly undesirable watches into 2 year waiting list models or resale market whales.

I never hated the Air King, but never really wanted one either. I don't think it's a successful looking design or concept. I still don't think so after the "refresh".

Thanks for posting the reference to the discontinued Bloodhound project. I was just going to do so. Posted the article in the past, but can't find it now.

Love the 116900, this one looks good too.
I’m just glad Rolex is carrying on with this line.

As previously discussed on this forum, the 0 before the 5 and 3 6 9 lume are excellent changes. The crown guards are a nice addition. Does this model still share the Faraday cage with the Milgauss? If so why not have the green saphire crystal from the 116400.

I used to dislike this model with a passion, anytime I saw it at the AD just sitting there (those were the days)... until I saw the above pictures and the bloodhound project dashboard... it was love at first sight!

The lack of 0 in front of 5 didn't bother me at all, in fact it wasn't even obvious to me until I read about the new Air King and the 05... in fact the 5 resembles the gauges of the bloodhound project closely so I prefer that one still... and I liked the white gold 3/6/9, of course the new one looks more modern.

Overall, I disliked it for a long time, then I liked it, now I still like it.

As a former 116900 owner, I do like rhe changes. Slimmer case should pay dividends in wearability, and prefer lumed 3,6,9.

I love the old one better. The crown guards look weird. The 05 is arguably better but this is a quirky watch and you don't buy it because you like the perfect balance, you buy it because it is different and quirky.

I have been trying to get a 116900 for a bit now but I couldn't get myself to pay a large premium for it. Like so many, I am not able to unlock the gold skin at the AD and I refuse to play their games.

With the new one out used 116900 seem to be popping up at a decent price +10% MSRP.

I don't think it will be a cult classic but I don't see why this one would buck the trend on keeping it value over time.

This second iteration leaves much to be desired for me, specifically due to the omission of the gold 3-6-9.

All of the other features I'm fine with. 05 looks nice, crown guard, I'm neutral.

It really isn’t. The old reference was in every AD window around the world…the same will happen to this sooner or later.

I said the same! It would start off cool, then heat up over time. I still think this will ultimately be a hot watch. It was cool before and they made a bunch of changes that nearly everyone agrees were improvements.

Like the lugs , don’t like the thinner case , like the 05 , needs a date function.

Then that would make the 116900 a future classic. Don't trade up, put it in a vault and wait 15 years lol.
