Agree with this, will probably cost money from 2024 and on.

Watches of Switzerland in the UK recently started a similar coverage service for Rolex. So for a Date-Just it costs around £1700 for 3 years or £2500 for 5 years. Needs to be paid upfront with the purchase of the watch. In the event of a claim, Rolex get notified to send the next available watch of the same model to the AD, so no wait list.

That seems insanely expensive, given that regular insurers seem to be able to turn a profit with ~1% annual premiums.

Anyone actually filed a claim under AP Coverage so far? I'm curious what they do.

I just had to file an insurance claim on a non-AP watch that I lost

The insurance investigator is actually flying out to the state I'm working in to meet me to take an in-person statement on Friday.

Anyway this is the wrong thread but I am nervous! Ugh. Never filed an insurance claim in my life

I feel sorry for the person who has to file the claim, but I'm curious to on how the first outcome is treated!

I remember reading another thread where these claim investigations are getting super serious. Out of curiosity, do you mind sharing which insurance company and what they are trying to replace? (Or please DM for privacy reasons). I'm wondering on these issues because the only time I've had to file a claim in the past was on a very run of mill Omega. But now all the itemized coverage are things like AP. So I mean, yes the trauma of theft, but if also trauma of invasive investigation...then...maybe the watches will become safe queens!

Have not dealt with them, but https://insurance.hodinkee.com seems popular in the US.

It's Hodinkee/Chubb insurance. The watch was bought used. Will see how it goes - hoping I don't have to switch insurance after this.

Just to add to the this thread on AP Coverage, I’ve successfully registered a 2nd hand watch that I purchased privately from the original purchaser who acquired the watch new in March 2023.

There seemed ti be some uncertainty on whether or not the coverage could be transferred to a new owner or not, hence wanting to contribute with my first hand experience.

That’s good to know it’s transferable

Maybe not for the seller though

The website clearly states that this service transfer with the watch to a new owner. But yea, the old owner will be flagged and hopefully banned

Agree re the AP website being clear, however there appeared to be some debate about it in this thread, hence wanting to share my first hand experience .

Out of interest, anyone claimed on this or know anyone that’s claimed?

Hi Stephen, I read an article recently where the CEO confirmed that there had not been any claims so far

That’s amazing if accurate. It’s a warzone out in La/SF/NYC and I’d imagine the same thing in parts of Europe. Surprised there haven’t been any claims yet.

I’ve been wearing 43 chrono or green diver in NYC past few months. When it was warm even in short sleeves. I don’t think people notice the watch. Midtown NYC. But only daytime. But I’m not in touristy areas apart from when I visit the nyc AP boutique.

That’s interesting to know. I’d imagine eventually that most claims will be for damage.

I think it was a great move by AP and taking a complete and utter guess, one that would probably cost them far less than 1%. For me though it makes me a lot more confident knowing I’m covered for two years by them.

But at say 60,000 watches worldwide a year and only 120,0000 covered over the two years there’s actually not that high of a risk. Maybe AP owners are wise to wearing with sleeves covered. Obviously not in the news because good news doesn’t exist nowadays!
