Little Carmine is a genre unto himself, one of the all-time funniest TV characters in terms of dialogue. I bet the actor had a blast with it. It was wild to see him recently as the doorman in Mad Men...I had to remember he really wasn't a nitwit.

I need to get better pics of the big Allis-Chalmers, which is really a handsome beast. It's from 1952. There was another AC here, vintage 1934, but it's now relocated down the road with a nice young farmer family. Still running like a top. The vintage tractor mania is significant...my dear mentor farmer was pres of the local collector's club. Those guys didn't think anything about amassing collections that put our Rolex lovers to shame.

I don't really know why I wanted to write about this but it was just a funny feeling when I played again this week, I like playing alone but letting myself go in my parents' basement was quite different, I hadn't played there in a long time and I do not have the chance of moving a lot in my apartment or stomping on the ground with my foot. I guess I was just feeling a tad sad as I'm much more limited music-wise around here...

You really were feeling the blues...! The music will always be there for you, Carl. When Dave went back to school the guitars and amps gathered dust - for about eight years. But now, he'll pick one up and play several times a week (when he's taking a break from welding, soldering, sawing and using.... harrraugh... power tools on that flight simulator!)

Dang I wish I could find a pic of Dad's old Massey Ferguson. I know there are some. Hope my sister got them. It looked a lot like this - it was from the early 1950s. I remember sitting on that thing, pretending to drive it.

Raw torque and power. No frills. Just a work horse.
Purely useful. Utilitarian. Have to respect that.
Maybe that's why I like pickup trucks. And jeeps. Purpose built. Not frilly.

Yes, ASU was grad school, exciting in its primitive splendor. Most of the classes were held at Minderbinders, if my misery serves me.

Well, we got only 0.3" of snow where I live, but within 50 miles there were amounts of over a foot. Very odd. Maybe now it is over...but rainy through the weekend.

When I was a kid I got hay fever like you can't imagine. I'd have really liked it there with all that space, but I'd have suffered something awful.

Our woods led all the way to the next town. Heaven for a kid with a crappy old dirt bike and a BB gun but when the pollen started in early summer and everything got coated with sticky green dust I had a heck of a time breathing and seeing straight.
Luckily it's not as bad anymore. Could be that I grew up and out of it or maybe because I live near the ocean. IDK. Just grateful.
I have no doubt that farm kids are generally healthier. More active. Fresher air.

Every year at our county fair there's an antique tractor parade. I'll check later to see if I can find any photos. The old timers are very proud of them and it's a big draw every year.

I'm not surprised. Think of the crudeness and simplicity that produced a machine so robust that it can continue to serve for 70-80 years while being maintained in the field with simple hand tools. It's an amazing feat. After all the use and (God forbid) neglect these machines are still worthy of being dolled up and driven on the street for a parade. No doubt the easiest job they've ever had.

The nice thing about the tractor parade is that the "old timers" driving them aren't texting.

I have discovered a new "class" of people: The "15 footers." These are the people who stop at a red light (if they stop) 15 feet behind the car in front of them so that when they text and lose attention, they won't bump the car in front. Don't find that with tractors!

Well, the new GS Spring Drive arrived. Easy deal, a phone call, 2 days later watch shows up. Oh yeah, credit card gets hit.

Had the following conservation with the deceptionist at work:

What's in the box.
A telescope.
Looks like a small box for a telescope.

Anyway, it looks really great on the bracelet. I was antagonizing about a strap for it, but based on the position of the springbars in the lugs there would be a gap greater than I'd like to have between the strap and the case. I don't really like that look. So the bracelet will stay. Just need to get a link out of it. Fit and finish are wonderful.

The second hand is totally smooth. I set it to time.gov and weill report on the accuracy.

I started ASU grad school twice....the first in 99 I was working for Microage in Tempe and they went BK....end of school for me.
Second time was 2005 at IBM ....but IBM had me on the road 3-4 days a week....so It made it really hard to attend class when I was in San Jose
or Boston.
I think my grand total is 12 hours ....Ive lost all interest in going now that im so old,besides
I would rather just watch T.V. all day and log on and waste my money on watches ....like this web site makes me want what i don't have.

Anyway here's the new inquisition: The spring drive is really cool. Smooth second hand and supposedly accurate to 1 sec/day. Will advise on that.

I was lucky enough to retire in 2006 at the ripe old age of 49....the problem is you spend lots of cash trying to keep yourself entertained all day.
My wife plays with plants/roses and her garden most of the day....
I spend lots of time in Cigar Bars and buying stuff I cant really afford.

What do you pull the hay wagons with?

I forgot about hay elevators! There is one on my grandparents ranch in the oldest barn. I need to go find it and take some pics.

Dawna, we've had events in and around the barn, but nothing as fancy as a wedding. Musicians, a bad art show (junk store finds), etc.
