Here are some photos I took of the county fair tractor parade in 2007:

And this great sign on one of the rabbit cages:

Holy cow! Would you look at those. Wow.
I wish I knew all about them. Probably be fun to talk with the owners if they'd take the time to explain them.

When they have the parade there is a denouncer who denounces all the tractors and gives a little history of the mfr and/or owner. It's really a lot of fun. The drivers aren't playing with their smell phones either, always a pleasant sight for me.

We've been going to the Dakota County Fair for roughly 30 years. I think we missed a couple of years due to weather, but very few. I don't go to the stinking State Fair because it's a zoo and there is nowhere to park. And I can't do that much walking anymore.

There is a food trailer there which has a "goofy" mirror on the side. I take photos there every year. Always a different result:

I think the quality of mirrors is really going down hill. Seems every year they get uglier and uglier.

It doesn't matter that the food may have been caught just 100 yards away - the prices are high regardless. At least the quality is top notch.
My friend has been working in cape cod for the past month. I'm learning all kinds of cool New England-y stuff.
I bet that seafood is THE best.

We took a VIA rail trip of eastern Canada many years ago, shortly after we were married. Went all the way to Halifax, Nova Scotia. One thing I remember well was the seafood. Lobstah Chowdah.

I always enjoy 'young Lisa and Dave' pics.

I've never ridden on a train. It's on my bucket list.

Yes I was Lisa! The music is and will always be there indeed but it's never the same, I'll have to buy myself a house if I want to enjoy it as much as I did back in the days at my parents'. Someday...

Next time you do that, stop by the French province and please let me know!

I think the tour started out in Quebec, Carl. Hard to remember, but I do recall the shops where everyone greeted you en Francais.

Bob, I just love those tractor pics. Those old lug wheel tractors were something. I remember an old farmer who lived around the corner from us who would hook up an old wheat threshing machine to his equally old lug tractor after the wheat harvest. I wish I could remember better, but somehow the tractor engine would run the threshing machine. There were two long belts that ran between them. Hard to describe. Maybe I'm remembering wrong... sounds kind of weird.

Lisa you were spot on. Here is an article I found on the subject. It's pretty lengthy and I didn't read the whole thing yet but the pictures toward the bottom show exactly what you're talking about.
http://www.lhup.edu/~dsimanek/make/crowned.htm

Once it was universally decided that big long exposed belts were dangerous, the tractors developed PTO (power take off) accessories that can be safely attached to run auxiliary equipment.

Mornin' Caroline,
Heck, I miss it just during the winter months.
One positive thing about a Rhode Island. We have good seafood and good Italian food.

My grandmother still has a small cottage in Charlestown.
If I can get up there, I'm going to take the kids this summer.
Clam fritters - yum! Oh, and clams period.

Although, I need to get the update on the local hurricane damage.

Mornin' Bill!

Hi Caroline! I read quite a lot of your posts in older threads but I don't believe I've ever had the pleasure of wishing you a good morning! How nice it is to actually talk to you in the Coffeeshop!

The article explains the whole thing very well! My brother and I used to sit in the grain truckbed and play in the wheat as it poured in. Dad would help pitch the shocks of wheat onto the conveyor, and these rake-like arms at the entrance to the machine would scoop them in. Dad had a horror story or two about farmers who would actually stand on the conveyor to feed the wheat in.

Yikes.
Can you imagine the horror of anyone suffering an injury in one of those machines, miles and miles from a real hospital, at the level of technology available.
Pass the whiskey bottle.

There are remonstrations of those old thresher machines and a load of belt driven stuff out this way in the summer and fall. We have a few on our short list that we go to annually every year, which is repetitive and redundant.

They have some steam powered tractors too. They are really large due to the size of the berler.

Thank you for the comments on the GS watch. I had the pros adjust the bracelet and am wearing it today. I set it 72 hours ago and I cannot deflect any deviation from the atomic time signal in that time.

Now I need to lay low on the expenses for a bit. We'll see about that.

The stupid kids across the street finished off the tree over the weekend. Now it's just a stump and all of the branches are sitting by the curb.

I'm really upset by this!

Do you not have a Covenant that protects trees in your area. Even if it is on your own property.

Can't believe they cut it down just for fun. Maybe they had a legit reason for it.

Yes, there's a city ordinance requiring the preservation and maintenance of healthy trees in historic preservation neighborhoods. I've filed a complaint, but it won't do any good. The tree's gone. I guess at the very least, they'll get a letter informing them of the ordinance violation so they will understand the problem with what they did.

They should be fined and made to replace, although it can't really be replaced.

^I would have done the same. I just don't know what's in some people's minds.

Don't they grasp that they took a life needlessly?
