Greg, I drive a 2005 Honda Civic...no new car for me and I have not bought a watch in 3 years and that was for a new G-Shock for when I go bicycling(unfortunately though, since my RA has flared up I have not been able to go out bicycling)!!!

I have relearned that it is better to be a giver than a taker and since I too have time I do my best to give to others as well. It makes you feel good to be of assistance to others.....

Take it easy.....Leo

I would love to have a cat again but unfortunately Pam is allergic to cats. We know there are a few breeds(one breed is called a Bengal) that cause less of an allergic reaction but she is still thinking about this option...two years later. I have suggested we find a breeder explain the situation and see if we could make a couple of visits first to see if she has a reaction...but of course it's still up to her. I do not want to make it sound like she is an indifferent person because she is not...she is a good natured, loving, caring woman so we will see.....I can't be to pushy!!!

But I too feed the stray cats that wander through the neighborhood and we have some dog biscuits as well.....we also put out Hummingbird feeders for those beautiful little birds and in the summer I put out saucers of water for all the animals(we live three blocks from the woods), insects and birds...I just do not like the wasps!!!

Take it easy.....Leo

Leo,
Sorry to hear about the RA flare up...I use to think that humid weather made it worse.....and it does.
High pressure and high humidity makes mine twice as bad ....in Phoenix with the lower pressure and no humidity makes it lots easier to get around.
Unfortunately I dont see me getting to move back anytime soon.

The answer is both: for some reason my area and soil are just perfect for growing great sprouts. But the real secret is when to harvest, and that is after the first frost. They're okay in summer, but just terrific once the frost has hit.

And then there's the prep: key is high-heat roasting, in pan on stovetop or in oven. After cleaning and picking off the outer leaves you halve them, rub cut side with garlic, saute or roast in olive oil, dress at the end with balsamic vinegar and an herb of choice (and sea salt and pepper), and you will be over the moon. I kid you not.
So I wonder if the frost makes them less bitter or something? I have tried pan roasting them with olive oil and rosemary, and I have to say there were decent. But some of them still tasted pretty brussels sprout-ish bitter.

Nomatter - we seem to be up to our elbows in foxes. I hope they're good for the neighborhood.

Correct. They have a fresh, bright, milder flavor after frost.

And...back to being a hausfrau for most of today.

Leo, we have a 5 month old Bengal kitten, and he is a blast. Plus, he doesn't shed. Max is allergic to cats, and having Maui in the house hasn't bothered him yet.

Caroline, thank you for your information and response...I mentioned your experiences to Pam about Max just now and she is on her iPad to do research about Bengal cats. I'll keep my fingers crossed and let you and everyone know if I'm successful in bringing a kitten into our home!!!

Good luck, Leo! I definitely think the idea of Pam visiting with a few Bengals first is very wise. They are smart kitties, and tons of fun. Ours enjoys stalking bugs.

Bengals are so attractive and interesting! So cool that they look like big cats. If I ever chose a house pet cat I'd definitely get one or two. But here our kitties are always barn cats. I get the ones from the shelter that nobody else likes, healthy females but not always that good-looking.

J...you are very kind to bring the cats home from the shelter and it's a smart move to have them live out of the barn. I would imagine they keep your property and around the buildings free of field mice, voles and moles. And of course everyone knows that the females are the true hunters. My brother and SIL live in the Missouri Ozark countryside at the edge of woods and they have five or so strays that hang around and keep the surroundings free of critters and snakes. They get feed twice a day and have shelters for warmth in the wintertime.....a win-win situation!!!

We're okay here in central/NW Oklahoma City. Moore, to the south of us, sustained the terrible damage you're seeing on TV. A scary afternoon - we've been glued to the news.

Thank you for letting us know you're ok. I was very worried. What a horrible mess. Is there any way we can help the people there?

Our thoughts tonite are with those people who have been effected by those devastating storms the past three days and that loss of life will be low. I know it will take time to assess the damage and find all who are buried and trapped. But let's hope the Feds step in and be accountable for a change and give assistance now...and not later.....

As I type, the President is coordinating with Governor of Oklahoma. Hopefully help is already rolling.

Horrific news indeed in Oklahoma, I'm glad that our Lisa and Dawna are safe and my thoughts are with the families who suffer from those tornadoes...
