Wowwee, Wes. Our ice cream trucks only sell pre-packaged popsicle types things. That looks like it came from a traveling gourmet ice cream shoppe!

All the vans(trucks) have a Mr Whippy ice cream making machine

Wonder if I can get one of these for my kitchen.

Call me old fashioned but I miss the old days when ice cream trucks rang real bells to attract kids and not that weird electronic music stuff.

Not surprisingly I like the old Divco trucks too.

I still like the square aluminum bodied step vans they use today. Just not as much. They have Chevy straight 6 engines and running gear and run forever.

Impressive ice cream truck knowledge, Bill.

Our Mr Whippy vans are normally Ford transits.

Back in the 1960's we had the Good Humor trucks drive through the neighborhood but it was hard to get a dime from Mom, especially since they would drive by everyday. We also had older kids come along as well everyday peddling a three wheeled bicycle with an attached box which contained dry-ice and they sold Popsicles and Dreamsicles, orange push-ups and a few more goodies like ice cream cones and ice cream sandwiches.....nowadays you have to take out a loan just to buy something...anything off of those trucks with the music amped up!!!

Remember Dairy Queen and Baskin Robbins...I would love a quart of Jamoca Almond Fudge. We do have an ice cream stand in the next town over called Zarlengo's and they have Italian Ice and Gelato as well as specialty concoctions...how about a Banana Split(but mine would have to be small cause I can not eat a regular size one now)!!! Yum!!!

Take it easy.....Leo

When Ethan was little we always did our best give him a cool birthday party. He's had Batman and Catwoman (hot!), The guy with small furry animals, the guy with reptiles, laser tag, all the typical cool, boy style parties etc. Well one year I called this company and arranged to have the truck come directly to my house, park in the driveway, and serve the kids whatever they want. Despite numerous phone calls the SOB never showed up. I was one pissed off Daddy.

Bill, I LOVE that old ice cream truck. How fun would that be to tool around town in? We have those awful vans with the electronic music that sounds like a sicko axe-murdering circus clown is prowling the neighborhood.

Mr. Whippy. Tee Hee.

Caroline, wish I'd read your post before I sat down with this beer. A float sounds lovely! Well, a beer float is probably very similar to a root beer float, wouldn't you think?

I heard of a guy who told his children that when the ice cream truck was playing music that meant that it was out of ice cream. That's just awful but it was funny when I first heard of it.

I agree...it is funny yet at the same time it's mean!!!

When the teenagers pedaled those bicycle carts they had little bells that they rang. When I was 16, I applied for the job and was told I was too small so I did not get the job. A couple of my friends were hired who were larger and taller. And they would ask me to help them pedal because their legs were not strong enough to go up our town's slight hills or last for 8-10 hours a day...funny how that worked out!!!

Take it easy.....Leo

Ugh, that's just mean! Just deal with your kiddos asking for ice cream. Sorry, but I have a issue with parents who lie to their kids just because they don't want to deal with things.

Hmmmm...

L, I really like root beer (especially the niche brands that are handmade, sorta like regular beer)
Madeline shares my obsession!

I agree. I just bought the ice cream. Then they had to run back in the house before it melted. Wes's ice cream cone looked so good. It made me think how fast one has to eat one around here, they just melt so fast.

Mr. Jennings was our ice cream man. I still remember him parking in front of my grandmother's house and I'd get Sealtest ice cream sundaes and stuff. Yum.

In our neighborhood it was the kids whose parent's didn't give them money to buy ice cream.

"Gimme a bite!"

And all I'd have left was a sticky wooden stick.

My brother was smart - he'd sprint into the house as soon as he got his ice cream.

Man, I think there's a market in the US for the REAL ice cream truck from days gone by. We need to get Mr. Whippy in our neighborhood....

When my son was about 3 or so he was dying to buy a Fat Frog ice cream from the truck. He did and of course it was green ice cream. It was the first time, and now that I think of it the last time he was ever sick. It didn't take long until it all came up. It must have been bad. I never bought another ice cream from a truck. And he never asked. He is now 25 and we still talk about that Fat Frog.
