I'm paying $1400 a month for health insurance alone. Lots of people don't even make that much a month. The whole health thing is crazy. Even paying that there are still co pays, deductibles and percentages to pay. Sometimes I think it's best to be poor in this country.

Ive tried them all except Meth.
Ive took so much dope in 8 years I know which brands of pills work the best.
Im sure my liver is shot also
Greg, it's amazing how fast these drugs stop working especially as you build up a tolerance. My Pain Mgt. doctor has also suggested to me to go on methadone as the Norco's are not working very well and Oxy's do so little for me. He did give me a small number of Dilaudid(4mg.)but those barely touch the pain. He also has suggested going on pain patches but I'm not certain what the active ingredient is in them...will have to research them to learn. I also know I am not being very kind to my liver but with this chronic pain all you want to do is be pain free(even if it is just for a few hours).....which of course will never happen. Wish you the best and be safe.....Leo

The Fentanyl patches work but they are expensive ( for me) 400 a month.....
they suppose to last 72 hours but I was looking for another at 48 hours.
Morphine and Dilaudid (and diacetylmorphine) work well if you inject it.....but orally they are poor choice.
Opana to me was the best but im guessing around 800 a month its very expensive if you can find it.
They can send a man to the moon but cant come up with a painkiller that is not habit forming.
Sounds like you need Zohydro.....Time released hydrocodone

Of course you are all right, there was only one Jimi Hendrix and there will never be another who had that raw power, speed and creativity. But among the living and remaining peers Beck is right ip there with the best.....

Hi Greg,

Being not familiar with Zohydro, I did some reading on the Internet about it and from what I read the FDA has not approved it's release as of yet. I like the idea of time release without the Acetaminophen added but I wonder when it will be given FDA approval!!!

Take care...Leo

I cannot say I have a real favorite guitarist or one that I find "the best", however, Hendrix had a really unique style that I find very, very good. Of course, Clapton, Jeff Beck and all the others who were there at that time were playing great music but when Hendrix came around he brought a style that, in my opinion, nobody had heard before. It was so raw, so pure, so psychedelic yet evil at times. He was really a wonderful guitar player!

I think I'll bring my guitars and amps to the Midwest someday, will you rent me a small spot in your barn? I'll have to make room for a certain piano master somewhere as well...

Sorry to hear Greg and Leo's pain woes. And also bit shocked to hear the costs involved, I don't know all the ins and outs of US healthcare.

Does make me appreciate our national health service, we have free healthcare to all, and dentistry. It's not without it's problems, and there are lengthly waiting lists for anything non urgent/serious. But anything serious, and the care is second to none. My Dad is diabetic and is on a host of other pills. Dread to think how much it would all cost if he had to pay. Sorry know this doesn't help.

You guys are lucky....we pay about 2k a month for drugs and Ins
its insane cost now
just 10 years ago it would have been 500-600 for the same thing
my wife is diabetic.....one drug she takes is 525 a month
It would be cheaper for me to go out on the street and buy heroin
which they have gave me diacetylmorphine in the hospital....great stuff
I was higher than Layne Staley and Kurt Cobain both at a concert.

You've really piqued my interest - hope you can find some of your work to share with us! I'd love to see it. Your specialty - pencil portraits - does that mean you do portraits of people, or do you do other things as well. Tell us more about this.
I was a nervous wreck with the nude models, too! I had a different model every week so there was a lot of variety of men and women. The first model I had to draw, I could not stop laughing so I had to hide behind my easel (I laugh when I get nervous ). Luckily, after that I got used to the whole experience!

I like working with charcoal more for large landscapes and for the nude models. Yes, vine charcoal is very messy but you can achieve certain textures from charcoal that cannot be achieved with pencil.

My specialty of Pencil Portraits consists of facial portraits of people. Generally, from the head down to the shoulders. I reference from a black and white photograph of the person's face and draw, in pencil, exactly what I see. Thank you so much for your interest, Lisa! I always love to talk about my work. If you have any more questions or would like to know more, feel free

My doc gave me a week worth of samples a few months back to see what I thought of it.....50mg compared to oxy 80's
For me hydrocodone works about half as well as oxy
I went back to oxy the next week.
I thought it was approved?

Wes, I had planned on getting back to you last night about your Clematis vine but had personal matters to deal with which were unexpected but needed my attention and be addressed.....

Do you know what variety of Clematis you have and also which Hardiness Zone you live in? The Hardiness Zone(Ratings) deals with the maximum/minimum Winter temperature extremes that you experience where you live(your climate). For example I live in the Hardiness Zone of 5(here in the Chicagoland area) which means the Winter temperature extremes here are -10F(-23.333C) to -20F(-28.888C). And our Frost Free Dates are between May 15th and October 15th. You should be able to Google Hardiness Zones for Great Britain and look up what zone you live in. This is very important because if you were to pick out plants that are not hardy for your area they will die come wintertime. Or would need to be brought inside...like Tropical foliage Plants.....and if Great Britain Nurseries are like those here they will sell plants which are not Hardy for your area and it's up to you to take care of them properly. This information can be found on labels attached to the plants(these include the plants cultural care requirements) at the Garden Centers and Nurseries.....

Clematis should be Hardy for your climate but it never hurts to check. For exposure, Clematis like full sun so they should be planted in either an East, West or South exposure. The soil should be slightly acidic and should be amended with products such as Peat Moss(German is the best followed by Canadian). This will assist the soil in staying acidic plus it adds a different particle size to the soil and holds nine times its weight in water. I would also add amendments such as some Horticultural Grade Sand(this is sand that is angular and not river or beach sand which is rounded and smooth which can cause compaction of your soil mix). This type of sand could be called Construction Grade or even Torpedo Sand. Amendments are added to Garden soils so the soil stays rich(you can add Processed Cow Manure, Mushroom compost, your own home-made compost or even Coffee Grounds as well just to name a few more)and with the different size particles it allows for a more open structure(instead of being compacted). Remember a plant's roots respire just like we do so they need oxygen and release carbon dioxide. It is a plant's foliage which takes in carbon dioxide releasing oxygen as a by-product.....

Also Clematis like to have their roots(feet) protected from the hot sun so it's best to add a top layer of wood mulch. I recommend using Shredded Cypress Mulch(this is what I use) or Shredded Cedar Mulch and you should apply a layer between 4-6 inches deep(10.0 centimeters to 15 centimeters). Wood based Mulches serves many purposes which include keeping the soil cooler, holding moisture(less evaporation)in the ground and assists which keeps the weeds from growing. and of course over time it decomposes so you will need to add more mulch each year.....

Now another area of importance is to fertilize(the packaging will list the Macro nutrients in the order of N-P-K) your plants on a regular basis or schedule...as this gives the plants the nutrients they need for proper growth and for producing flowers. Use a Blooming-Type Fertilizer early in the season(also you can buy and use Organic Fertilizers or Commercial ones but make certain they also have Micro Nutrients and Trace Minerals...) as this is higher in Phosphorus(needed the most for initiation of flower buds) and Potassium which is needed for plants to produce a healthy root system and for production of flowers. Then later in the season when they are done flowering you can switch over to a fertilizer higher in Nitrogen which is needed for proper growth. Also it is best to prune Clematis after they are done blooming because clematis are known for losing their lower growth(closer to the ground)and end up looking bare and leggy.....

Clematis do need support for climbing and since you do not want the vines growing directly on your fence I would recommend using trellises placed and secured into the ground close to your fence. This will give the appearance that they are growing and climbing along the fence without actually growing and clinging to the fence. My recommendation though, since you want the plant to fill in along the fence would be to secure treated wood in a lattice structure type construction anchored/secured to the fence with a gap of about 6 inches(15 centimeters)between the lattice and the fence. As the plant grows and fills in you will still get the appearance that it is growing along the fence!!!

good luck and have a great day.....Leo

Yes, the Meds can really add up..."One of the many" of the Meds I am on for RA is a Biological and only comes in a syringe. I inject myself(which I really hate doing)once per week and they cost over $565.00USD per each injection.....luckily we do have Health Insurance through Pam's employment but it still costs $80.00 a month with our Co-pay!!!

Excellent tutorial on clematis, Leo. I planted one a couple years ago (Ramona) and despite having neglected it, it's growing well and puts out huge blue-lavender blooms in the spring. I need to read about pruning because I think it's supposed to be cut back pretty severely at some point. The two vines coming out of the ground look incredibly thin and frail (dead, actually) and I thought the entire vine had died over the winter, but it started putting out new growth and seems healthy.

Carl, Phoebe (my 13 year old) has a question for you... do you watch "Supernatural" - a TV show about demon-chasing brothers? We thought you might enjoy it, given your fondness for monsters and such!

Art, I never knew bananas grew that way up, I thought your pics were upside down. In the shops they are always the other way up.

Leo, thanks so much for all that info on clematis. Looks like my hardiness zone is 8-9. It doesn’t say much on the label about this

The wall where I want it is south facing. And fences west, so should be alright. Think I may have to remove or put new ones in so will follow your planting instructions.

I’m gonna have to remove that net, and replace with trellis, was thinking I could put a bit of net between the trellis and fence as looks like the vine likes that, and this way won’t come off.

One last question, I’m thinking of putting an ivy back in the corner of the walls, as this can stick to the wall without net. Is there different types, the last one was very aggressive like the one in Lisa’s tree.
