On Saturday, I paid my very first visit to a PP AD and we had a very pleasant and long discussion. I tried on his 5726 and I really liked it, as itīs a quite small AD he didnīt have any other Nautilus or Aquanaut models available at this time. Iīm awaiting his call for other models to try on.

In the end Iīve left the store with a bag of PP literature and somehow I got the strange feeling that Iīll be returning there soon. Is this the beginning of the end?

Very strange to see a Patek 5726 at an AD with a non Patek -non OEM strap. Also I am surprised they gave you the 175 Anniversary book as most only ordered and reserved for top clients...Interesting.

He told me that his own 5726 does not have the OEM strap because he likes the pictured one better. But if I understood him correctly the strap is a genuine Patek strap but only for a different model.

Well, I didnīt know that the pictured book is that rare, maybe he considered me a future top client?

I have to say my first PP AD experience was very positive.

I've heard of this happening on numerous occasions. Apparently crocodile straps are considered an "exotic" skin and they often send the watch and strap separately through customs. For what reasons I do not know, but I know my 5205R came into the AD separated from the strap and they had to wait for the strap to also arrive to assemble it and deliver it to me.

Interesting but that has never happened for me and all my watches have been sealed and I cut there at AD with exotic skin strap on.

Cut the seal to see watch and one still sealed.

Yeah I don't understand it. I'm guessing there's some additional tariff if the strap is attached to the watch and they have to report it as "exotic" going thru customs. Some AD's might not be willing to pay that and they send the strap separately thru other channels they don't report.

At least, that's exactly how it happened with my 5205R. So I may be speaking too generally but I've heard it from a few others. My watch was not sealed when I picked it up.

Interesting as I have never heard that. I know if one is buying from a grey dealer that can be the case but never from AD's for any of the luxury watches I have bought new like Patek, Lange, VC, JLC etc.

Mine was an AD, but I also bought the watch at a 15% discount (unheard of for a 5205r) because I know the guy very well and we work together in another industry (rare coins).

That is a good price on this one Brian as most aren't budging as they are so hard to get!

Next time I have the chance Iīll ask him about the strap for his 5726 again. His watch also had some serious battle scars like the scratch on the bezel at 12.

In the meantime I had a look into the anniversary book and must say itīs the most beautiful watch catalogue Iīve ever had in my hands so far.

Yeah he told me that was the most he could get away with without Patek giving him a hard time over it. The other people that had it wouldn't go below $47500.

One guy even told me he wouldn't discount even a dollar because Patek has been telling all the AD's no more discounts or risk losing their title, and very little even to your best clients. Trying to sell the brand, not the price I guess.

What is the real story behind "sealed" watches, in particular Pateks?
My AD has always told me that Patek has very strict rules about an AD allowing a sealed watch out of their store. In addition, even the cardboard box that the watch is delivered in is not allowed to leave the store. Supposedly the shipping box and plastic seal is to be discarded by the AD. I was told that this is to reduce these watches showing up as new grey market watches.
Anyone know if any of this is true?

^my AD allowed me to cut the plastic and let me to take the cardboard box too ,in my understanding only the sealed one in bnib the rest are presentation pieces which may were handled by others .

Ken it is true and is a rule form Patek. I cut the bag but they keep bag and shipping boxes. I have gotten to keep a few in past from other dealers but with my AD here it is a no no as they follow Patek rules 100%.
