Dawna, the rodeo sounds like a fantastic learning and doing experience for the young man. I didn't use to make the connection between ranch life and the ranch economy and those who deal with land and livestock in the East and West.

Today I'm back in housefrau mode for a week of entertaining and therefore cooking like crazy. Tonight's menu: lamb burger sliders with garlic scape pesto, classic pesto Genovese (basil from the garden), and yogurt dill sauce. Red potato salad (vinaigrette, not mayo based), greens salad, and fresh cherries and ice cream for dessert. All the produce and lamb are mine, or local.

Waves to all.
Do you ship express. I'm hungry.

You should build an arena and start having a rodeo there every year, Wes. I'm sure it would be quite the tourist attraction.

Quick question Bob, are you still enjoying your Panerai and GS? How are they after a few weeks of ownership?
Oh yes, I feel I made some good choices in the Panerai and GS. I've wanted a GS for a long time and that one is really nice. Whether I *needed* 4 Panerai is debatable but I am enjoying them especially with all the straps.

BTW I found a couple of photos of the Stangl pottery with which I grew up:

Company picnic today. Shrimp, chowder, clam cakes and then the clam boil. Everyone got one of these.

One of the few benefits the company still participates with.

Oh, update on crazy daughter. I just realized i hadn't told y'all what was happening. She didn't get a resident's permit as yet, and she had to come home. Her boyfriend came to visit this eek, and will be around for a bit it seems. He is a nice guy and I will allow him to live. The really good news is that the child decided she wanted to go back to Holland, so she worked her buns off to get into a university there that teaches IT in English. I'm not sure about the quality of the school, but it's a lot better than her current education, which consists of being bored to tears by University of Phoenix.

I like 'em, Bob. Don't know much about Stangl. The lid on the teapot is interesting... recessed like that. Do you know about what year these are from?

Rumor has it that you have a white Explorer II. If that's true, would I be able to talk you out of a wrist shot? It'd be super cool. I'm thinking about one.

In the upper right corner, under the actual clams (sans shell) is chourico.
Everyone on The Food Network says it wrong. Even Emeril, who knows better. Shoo-reese.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...081100201.html

Under the corn are Saugies. They're a type of hot dog.

http://www.saugy.net/

There is also regular sausage, red potatoes, corn and the broth has spices.

Wes, thank you so very much for your kind gesture! You are one heck of a good friend.

I am afraid I cannot take pictures all but I'd like to share the early birthday present I got from our piano master! Wes sent me a CD of the soundtrack for the movie Inception (written by the great Hans Zimmer), a beautiful t-shirt with a tarantula on it and a hand written card in which he attests that I am a mentor for him...

Here's to you my friend.

Interesting. I've never heard that.
Also, these potatoes are never peeled and they make for a great potato salad.

Mikki, do I hear a little of the, "I think this guy might be okay but I have to get to know him better" before I make a judgement call...in your post??? That would be great if the College checks out and she can get a very good education over there when she returns to Holland.....so you say you are now on the hunt for another Rolex watch. Good for you the Explorer II with a white dial is one I would be proud to own one day!!!

Lisa, you(and all the ladies) would really enjoy the pottery my friends make and sell. They have honed their skills through the years and make all their pieces by hand and on a Potter's Wheel...no molds at all. Many mix their own clay and they also make their own Slips and Glazes. You should see some of the designs for kilns they have made and built through the years...and as for techniques like Pit Firing you do not actually have to build a pit, layering the pieces of work with woods and other combustibles in the hole and covering it up. You can actually use 55 gallon steel drums.....

Art, Summer is always fun with grilling out and making dishes like potato salad...Yum!!!
Not all of us live in the Humid Tropics...where grilling out in wintertime does not mean that you have to layer on clothes to brave the -20F temps. with the Windchill.....

Tomorrow nite for dinner we are going to grill up Fillet Mignons and I plan on having mine with a copious quantity of Stilton Blue Cheese!!! Then as soon as it gets dark we will go to where the Village Fireworks Show will be shown...of course we first have to figure out where they are going to do it since they changed the location from where they usually have done it for over 50 years!!!

Everyone enjoy your Holiday and trust it will be safe and sane...party hearty!!!

Take it easy.....Leo

Aw, I used to have an Exp. II. It was the first Rolex in our family - husband bought it used from Tourneau in San Antonio about 7 years ago. He gave it to me after he bought his Sea-Dweller. For a while I wore it quite a bit, but on a leather strap as that was the only way it would fit without removing a permanent link. I sold it this spring because I had a hankering for a new 36mm Datejust.

Here it was - I do miss it some. Very comfortable on the wrist, and it had nice lume. I have found, over time, that 40mm is just a bit too much watch for my scrawny wrists.

Thank you! I'm worried about the same thing. It does look nice on leather. I'm pondering pondering pondering. And still kind of on the fence. I also like GMTs.

The GMT is my favorite Rolex.

Leo - do any of your friends sell their pottery online? I'd like to see their wares. Some artisans can replicate the turn of the century Arts and Crafts pottery very well. Teco, for example, has a new line of art pottery that looks a lot like their old stuff. I've been tempted to add some of the new pieces to my collection.

And bear in mind, the new Explorer II is a smidge larger than the old 40mm size like I had. What is it, 42mm? But I do like the new style face - very clean, readable and handsome.

Shall we look for you on the evening news?

My sister's coming tomorrow to stay for a couple of days, so it will be a bit festive around here. She's bringing some Mike's Hard Lemonade for me, in a mystery flavor she thinks I might like. (And of course I will - never met a Mike's I didn't like.)

Some of my Artist friends do have Websites, I will have to compile them and get back to you. I do have one of my very best friends, who also was my Ceramics teacher in High School, who does have a Website but he does Raku now with copper carbonate and black and white pieces with a clear slip. He also does some Pit Fired pieces as well but these are all decorative, sculptural pieces/vessels and non-functional. His name is Phil Mundt and his live in girl friend(Ramona Buss-just Google her to see some of her work) does decorative weaving where she gathers all her own natural materials from the woods in Arkansas(where they live-they live back in the woods 3 1/2 miles off of a country road)and uses natural and commercial dyes to give her work colors. Her work is also awesome and makes pieces to hang on a wall or set on a table.....

He is on Facebook and if you Google him there are some listing that show up

I do have a piece of Phil's work, a wine bottle, where it is Raku but he used a slip to coat the inside surface of the vessel and then he used a tap so the top screws on and off...very cool. I have had it for about 25 years or so.....

Take care and have a great Holiday with your family!!!

Mikki, I have a older GMT(Z-serial number=made in 2006 or so)and love it. It is 40MM but is very versatile with the three bezel inserts and also getting a Jubilee bracelet...check them out!!!

Enjoy your Holiday.....Leo

The exp2 that you had was my first Rolex love. At one time they were almost impossible to find around here at an AD. Late 90's or so. Never owned on yet. A buddy of mine wore a black dial one for a few years. I now have the urge to get another watch and am leaning towards the GMT.
