Yea, and your gift of gab was around before Skype was invented. Poor Zemina; she had to be in the same room with you to have a conversation.

She'll flunk right out of charm school, thanks to influence from big sis and big Daddy.

Some things my 4 year old has said to me:

(while handing me a napkin from her car seat at age 3): "Take it, my stupid lady!"

"Make youself useful and wipe my butt!"

"Get me out of this hell-hole!" (wanting out of her car seat)

"HEY. I WONDER IF THIS WOULD BE TOO DANGEROUS?" (trying to get me to come out of the bathroom while I was giving the baby a bath)

Here is the potty-mouthed perpetrator:

Interesting how she has that same innocent expression that her mother does.

At first, I and then I when I realized that this is what I have to look forward to starting in a few weeks with the arival of my first! Kids are getting way too smart and mouthy way too early in life.

But I certainly laughed in reading your post, Lisa!

Hmmm, I'm beginning to see I'd make a lousy parent... all of the above would make me laugh out loud...

That's the whole deal, Pat. It DOES make you laugh when it happens.....but the trick is to never let the kids see or hear you laughing. Trust me...it's hard as heck to be giving them a lecture while your insides are screaming with laughter.

Well, the thing of it is, she doesn't fully know the meaning of what she's saying. That's what makes it funny... maybe that makes me a bad parent, but there is a difference between really being a smart-mouth, and saying things that you've overheard and don't really understand.... her big sister has just begun to test the waters there... believe me, my reaction is MUCH different then!

I think it's probably more useful to find humor in the crazy things they say, Nancy. We've been known on many occasions to say to both girls: Just don't repeat that at school! And you know what? They don't.

If we'd been getting reports from their teachers about any of the things they've said, we'd be a little more concerned. But around other people, they are sweet and polite as can be. They know it's safe to experiment around us. I guess we don't feel it's necessary to forbid them to say certain things, especially if there is truly no malice intended. Besides, with my sailor mouthed husband around, it would be a losing battle anyhow.

Hmmm. Good point - internal laughter versus external parenting. This is certainly going to be a very interesting next 18 years!

Excellent. My father was an army man. I actually lived the first year of my life in Petawawa, but that was 61 years ago so it sure won't be the same place now!

Yep, it's certainly changed even from when I was first up here in 1987! I won't say modern, because that's not really true - it's still valley living with all that such a phrase implies. Still, it's a good place to call home and start off our family in. I love walking / riding / driving into my driveway here - absolute serenity, with loads of trees, wildlife and not a sound from a city.

Nancy,

Absolutely. It's a bit of calmness when we need it. It re-charges us at the end of long days and weeks in the field and / or months overseas. We're pretty blessed up here.

I suspect James, that having those long days/weeks/months...especially the time overseas, gives you a far greater appreciation for those "simple life pleasures" than it does for the average person.

It's nice that you found TRF as well. Sometimes it's far from calm here, but it's a great way to unload stress and to enjoy a little time away from some of life's unpleasant offerings.

Yep, you nailed it on both accounts, Nancy. Our home is literally our haven and doubly so after a deployment overseas.

And TRF has been a great deal of fun since Solar introduced me to it immediately after my fake-SD experience on e-bay last September. Except for JJ and the whole sheep-love thing.

James,

Welcome back and, of course, good to see you posting again. Don't be shy, not that you would, and help me keep Nancy in line. Every time I think I have topped Nancy, she beats me like a yard dog.

LOL, yep, I hear you, Nancy sure is quick! Nice to be home and enjoy the interchange that sems to flow so well here on this forum! I've been away for the better part of two months, training down in the southern USA (I never knew it got that cold in southern Texas!). Sure missed this forum and great to be back!

James

When at the gas station I tell my kids to pick up all the pennies laying around. Little do they know that I am paying for my "GOOD TIMES"!
