Hi, Judy. Welcome to our little shop. I'm probably biased but the nicest people hang out here... hope you'll stick around!

You're a nurse? What type of nursing do you do?

Lisa, I've posted a thread in the Non-Rolex section with more details but basically, as you can see, this watch is a regulator, all the hands are in different positions. I've been wanting one for a long time but you see jump hour watches more often than those (a jump hour will display the hour in a small guichet like a date instead of using a hand, sometimes even the minutes will be displayed like that), I was really looking for a watch with hands only.

This watch is, I believe, from the 1960's. It's hard to really know for sure as the dial has been redone (I usually stay away from those but, as I've said in another thread, this job was so well done that for the price I paid for it it was worth the sacrifice) but I've seen the movement and it did look old, however, given the 36mm case and the 21 600 bph I don't think it's as old as a watch from the 1940's.
It's a beauty. I know what you mean about redone dials, but sometimes it's the best choice given the circumstances. Did you find it odd at all reading the time on the dial? I wonder if it would seem strange to have your hours one place and minutes on the other.

Hey Carl, I read you like making music:

The 2 guitars & the ukulele are my sister's
The Double bass is my mother's and the Tuba is my father's
My mother can play piano and violin as well.

I can only play trumpet, which I have done in an orchestra for 5 years and I've had 2 years of trumpet lessons before that.

Bas, I'm very glad to read you make music as well! I would love to hear you play some trumpet for us!

As for your instruments collection, you can compliment your family on it as it looks very nice.

Judy, welcome to the Coffeeshop! I hope you will enjoy all the regulars, we are quite the friendly bunch!

Had the watch been a real collectible item I would have let it pass but given the circumstences I decided to go against one of my rules, in the end I am very glad I did!

As for reading the time, I only surprised myself once thinking that my minute hand was above my hour hand and thought two hours went by really quickly at the sushi restaurant but otherwise it's easier to read than I thought, it really isn't that hard and you get the habit quickly.

Oh, what a night. Low humidity, perfection. The corn is 10 feet tall... the old barn looks like it's sinking. That's a tennis ball in her mouth.

Judy, Welcome and as you have said pull up a Cup of Joe and do some reading and catching up. The Ladies here are 'Top Notch' and it's fun because they let us come and play with them(personally I think they are very kind for tolerating us male-folk)for the most part...we all hail from either the USA, Canada, Great Britain and Karis comes from Texas(I know you have heard...them Texans' are still working an angle to succeed from the Union). Then every know and then we get visitors who come from other foreign lands...which is nice because they add flavor and a different perspective!!!

Take care.....Leo

J, your home and land is a gift which feeds the world and I someday want to move to the country for the peace and quiet. To be able to sit outside on a cool Summer night and listen to the crickets, watch the corn(the silks swaying with the wind)and soybeans grow and feel the breeze upon my face will bring peace and serenity to my mind. I would love to have a porch which wraps around the front of the Farmhouse and curl up with a good book.....

Enjoy your evening.....Leo

Wellllllllll....I just got to page 36! Why did I just buy a book? This is like a novel and I want to see what has happened with your lives from 2007 till now. Im curious that way. A lot of you have been here a long time. I think that's wonderful.

I realized I really didn't tell you anything about me. Not sure if you wanna know but Im going to tell you anyway. Im a nurse as my nic says, Ive been one for 23yrs and still counting cause retirement isn't gonna be here anytime soon (only 47 but I look 37 ) Ok, so.. I am almost officially back to being single although unofficially have been so for a couple yrs , I have no kids and spend as much time with my nephew who is 3.5yrs and my neice who is 17mths. They keep me young. I babysit as often as I can and of course jack em up on sugar then leave. Its the best of both worlds. I love anything related to jewellery, which includes watches. I have a few quartz watches, 2 Seamasters, 1 Aquaterra, a Burberry and a GC Swiss and that's it so far. I want to start a small automatic collection. I have always loved the look of a Rolex and now I want one. What better way to enter in the new era of my life. Not sure what else to say...you have questions, ask away....

Lion, nice you like it up here. :-) I used to live in NC for almost 7yrs working there and am very familiar with the Southern ways... I get to Buffalo to shop from time to time although haven't gone lately.

Night all...
Judy

PS...Lisa, you made reference early on in the posts about when you worked at a hospital, are you a nurse yourself?

Judy! Nice to know your name and thanks for the introduction. We're close in age but I got a couple of years on you. I'll be 50 in September- kind of dreading that milestone but my husband is one year older than me so I get to see what it's like through him before experiencing it myself.

I'm not an RN - I worked as an OB scrub tech for many years. My degree is in journalism but I stay home and raise kids now. My hubby's an anesthesiologist.

So cool that you appreciate mechanical watches! I think a new Rolex is a terrific way to mark this time in your life.

Oh, and bunny and hens all are fine, Wes and Greg. We've had some cooler days and rain, and I put a block of ice in bunny's hutch on the hotter days.

Hi Lisa,

My wife gives Preston a frozen bottle of water in summer.
He plays football with it all round the garden.

PS...Lisa, you made reference early on in the posts about when you worked at a hospital, are you a nurse yourself?

Good Morning Judy, you have done a lot in the many years you have graced this world and being a Nurse is not an easy job/life. Long hours and sometimes(which equates to all the time)you never get the positive feedback or that "pat on the back" that you should receive. And of course a little more money from a job review would always be nice, especially putting up wiith patients and bosses!!!

Membership in the 'Girls CoffeeShop' has changed through out the years but the members who do come aboard as the years have gone by have always made the transition smoothly and most always fit right in.......Lisa, Carolina,East Bay Rider(Bill) and Greg have been here the longest......of the older crew!!!

Going to pour myself a cup of Coffee and get ready to embrace the day...the pain woke me up again this morning but at least I did get 2 1/2 hours of sleep this morning. I think tonite I will end up with my SOP which consists of crashing and burning late this afternoon and sleeping through till tomorrow morning.....

I have a lot of work and watering to do in the Gardens today which includes fertilizing and then more product to apply to combat the Deer from grazing and those nasty Japanese Beetles from going to town......

Take care and enjoy your day.....Leo

I've got exciting Family news, our son, Ben, earlier this week got a promotion to the position of being a 'Senior Analyst' and received a 15% raise. We of course are excited and proud of our young man(of course I am biased)and he finally has receive some recognition for all his hard work and Overtime. Of course in the last two years he caught two separate mistakes which saved his Employer over a million each time. But of course after being with this Communication company fresh out of college over 7 yrs. ago he felt under appreciated.....and of course I told him Welcome to the " real World".....

Have a great morning and as soon as it gets a little brighter outside I will get out and fertilize and water!!!
Take care all.....Leo
