Mikki, you will prevail. I hope sooner rather than later. DC is such a flux-y environment these days. :(

Be good, Shop friends. Time to hunt for ocean and seafood and the like.

Don't you love thunderstorms?

The other day (on my birthday...) I was flipping hamburger steaks on the grill with my girlfriend when it started to rain like there was no tomorrow. A lightning struck the big umbrella that was covering our heads (like it was useful anyway...the wind made the rain hit us on the back so we still ended up being wet! ). I kid you not, we saw a big ball of light running down the umbrella's pole with a very loud *ZIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIP* sound before hitting the ground. Right at this moment the power went out in our house...

The worst part is that we had our feet on the umbrella's base to hold it, had it been our hand I think we would have felt quite...shocked...

Got the same here Bas, it's 9pm and still 31C I'm melting. We've had a few thunderstorms here including one that wrecked my BBQ last Sat night.

Wes, looking at a picture of your Red Rose...could take your breath away....

Make certain your Roses are getting plenty of Sunlight, your growing medium has plenty of Peat Moss mixed in, your soil ph is slightly acidic, you are fertilizing them and also you should at least have a 2-3"(5cm.-7.5cm)layer of shredded wood mulch applied to the soil surface. The mulch will help to keep moisture in the soil, suppress the growth of weeds and keep the roots cooler in the Summer. If you can it would be more beneficial to your Roses and other plants if the shredded mulch layer was thicker...4-6"(10cm-15cm).....

Take care.....Leo

My mother is very afraid of thunder, so when the weather forecast predicts even the slightest amount of thunder we are not going to dine in the garden

Thanks, Leo. These roses are at the front of my house, they are doing ok considering the soil looks bad and very dry. I remember seeing some pics of yours and you had some mulch down.

I was hoping for a beautiful maintenance free garden.

Wes, unfortunately there are only two types or kinds of gardens that are "Maintenance Free"...one where you put down Astro-Turf, plastic and silk flowers and plants and the other one is where you hire and pay a Gardener to come in and do all the work.....

Now there are gardens where if you pick your plants carefully...you can get a nice mix of Ornamental Flowering Shrubs, Evergreens and some Perennial Flowers...which are "Low Maintenance"!!!

Oops.....I just remembered a third type of Garden.....and that's the one where you live in a High-Rise Apartment Building or Condo Association and you have no Garden...

Take it easy.....Leo

Yep...it's now a Law in Illinois...The Governor signed the Bill yesterday(been on his "Desk" since early May) allowing for Medical Marijuana for those who qualify. The "Catch" is you have to have an established relationship with the doctor writing the prescription, go through a Back Round Check with the State Police and possibly the 'Feds' to get your 'Medical Marijuana Card' and the program starts January 1st, 2014. And of course the implementation of the procedures will still depend on Illinois' abilities to stall anything and everything!!!

Oh.....I'm definitely going to apply for a card. Once again I have severe pain everyday, I'm not sleeping from the discomfort and swelling and have not been eating. I know that's bad to do but with the pain I'm not hungry and food doesn't taste good...btw i'm not going to tell you how much weight I've lost.......

Thank you guys, surprisingly when it happened we didn't really feel like we were in danger. I cannot say if it was the lightning itself or just some sort of an electric trick but we know what we saw and it was indeed very surprising!

I'm sorry to hear you're in so much pain, I hope the marijuana can relieve some of that.

Here in the Netherlands you can buy weed if you are 18+, never tried it though (and probably never will).

I'm so sorry, Lion. It's a crime when the state deprives you of something that might help your suffering, for no reason other than to not provide competition to the alcohol industry. People fear what they don't understand, and make ridiculous claims. I hope that they hurry and let you try it.

Fibro pain is similar I think. Opiates don't work (they just make me nauseated and keep me up at night). NSAIDS don't really help much either. It's not worth the stomach/heart valve/liver risks. Of course, if I actually want to keep a clearance, even if it's legal in my state (HA! Virginia where the idiot running for governor wants to outlaw most bedroom activities even by married couples), it will still be federally illegal so clearances would likely not be provided to people breaking federal law. catch 22.

Please don't let your body deteriorate by not giving it the fuel it needs to survive. Even Ensure and Boost would be so much better than nothing. You gotta eat, man.

Not wanting to whine, but you know, I've always wondered about this good people and good things, thing. I sold my company in 1995. Bush II crashed the economy and I lost most of my savings. 2008 I went back to work, at a horrible horrible job that came close to killing me. The stress was intense, and the atmosphere toxic. I bailed and went to work for a small company. During the first idiotic budget "crisis" where our elected officials played politics with people's lives, the small company's contracts went poof and I was laid off with many of the company's other directors. I was out of work for over a year. I had over 200 resumes/applications out, including many to the federal government where you would think they'd love to snap up someone with my experience at the relatively low government pay rate (plus I'm officially schedule A disabled so they could hire me without competition) but noooo. Finally I got hired by a small law firm that works on a contract basis with clients. I was told by the company I was seconded to that I would likely be there for years. They loved me, I loved them, and everyone was ever so happy. Well, 14 months later, we got burned so badly by sequester that financially it just wasn't going to work for them anymore.

I'm very tired.

Mikki Good afternoon,

I have been catching up since yesterday and I feel terrible about your career situation. I will never understand why companies tell you your "job is safe"(which we all know in our current business climate no position even as an owner is safe...let alone talking about the housing industry)and then a week later talking through the other side of their mouth(or is that brain)you are fired or layer off.....and nowadays many people are let go through Emails!!!

As for all of us with health issues...many times it's a no win situation. I'm currently on four immune suppressants and where they worked in combination(to some degree)over a year ago...now they don't. So we are going to have to "Try Different Combinations" to see if we can get it back under a 'Managed Control'. The Morning Stiffness returned last year and I look like the 'Walking Dead' in the morning until it wears off.....I know in D.C. they have provisions for those of us with Chronic Pain to procure the 'Medical Pot' but of course I do not know the nuisances of the Law. Here in Illinois people who have Fibromyalgia will be able to apply for a Card as well as having RA and many other conditions...about 40 of them will be covered. But of course I believe I stated that the Law starts on January 1st, 2014 but it will take up to 8-9 months to implement the program and get all the pieces in place.....

Take care...Leo

Pam's New Watch Part 2:

Today is the AD's big sale and we do have a watch on hold for Pam. It's a Ladies' 31mm Oyster Perpetual No Date and SS Bracelet. The watch dial is black with the 5 minute markers in Pink Stick form(or you may prefer to call them Baton)and has the 3,6 and 9 in Pink Numbers. I do not know if this one glows in the dark so we will ask when we go for our 3:30PM appointment. I told Pam that they make the same watch in a 36mm so we will see!!!

Stay tuned...I think I'm more excited about her getting the watch then she is!!!

Take care everyone.....Leo

Pam' New Watch Part 3:

Update, we went to the Anniversary Sale and after trying on over a dozen Rolex watches she decided on buying the 31mm Ladies' Oyster Perpetual, #177200, Black Dial with Arabic Numbers and Pink Stick Markers. I'm sure glad on Friday we had put a hold on this watch because our appointment was at 4PM and they could of sold it earlier in the day. And as we headed up to the register to pay for it a Lady who had just walked in the door saw us with the watch and was disappointed that it was sold because she had come in specifically to buy that watch. Needless to say she had to settle on having them order another one from Rolex and wait for it. With Pam having a smile on her pretty face we left to go out and find food for dinner and then back home we went.....pictures to follow in the next couple of days...cause I know, "it didn't happen without the obligatory wrist shot and a pic of the watch in the box on its pillow!!!

Take care.....Leo

I would love to chime in here but I would get banned on politics
Seven years ago I though we could live off interest till 62 and S.S kicked in. ....low bank CD rates really hurt the aging baby boomers....about 40 percent of my money is gone.....Doctors and medical bills are really are hitting us hard.....in July just prescriptions for both of us was over 1200 bucks and no end in sight.
We have the greatest medical institutions in the world but dont get sick....
