Lisa, ya, my mom is still in good shape to be home. She does some funky things sometimes that make me chuckle otherwise she is too with it to put in a home. She doesn't have any wandering or combative type behaviours. She does need observation of course and her toileting is becoming an issue. I have been showering her for about 7 mths now cause she forgot how. She does listen to simple commands. When she starts giving me a hard time I correct her and ask her if she wants to look like the other people at her day program. She declines. LOL I always make sure she is dressed like she would dress herself. Just today she told me that there weren't any women that wore nice capris and smart shirts to her program. I told her she was lucky to have a fashion conscious daughter that dressed her everyday. LOL She laughed. She remembers who we are, sometimes having trouble finding her words. Or she will say "your cousin or your friend". She has known them for ever but is easier for her to describe them instead of names. We will keep her home as long as we have to. She is ok so far but each day I see a deterioration in her. Small and subtle..but they are still there. In the meantime, I keep her at the same level as if she were taking care of herself...smart clothes that match and fit right, and above all... keep her independence till she cannot do it any longer. :-) Not to toot my own horn, but she is super lucky Im a nurse. LOL

I know what you mean. I feel the same way. If you haven't already done so, get an advanced directive as part of your estate plan and spell out what you want done if the time comes that you can't make your own health care decisions. You can request no artificial feeding or fluids, no resuscitation, nor other life-saving measures. But I don't know about a planned drug overdose. ha.

When Mom really started downhill her doctor and I had a long talk about her worsening heart condition (severe aortic stenosis) and she presented some treatment options and medicines that might prolong her life. At that time Mom was more lucid, and she staunchly refused any treatment or meds. As the dementia progressed my sister and I agreed that it wouldn't be right to go against her wishes, to try and prolong her life when she had no quality of life. This might sound callous to anyone who's never been in the situation, but truly it was an act of mercy to let things run their course and I know it was what she would have wanted. She died at home, in her sleep, of a presumed heart attack after two years of homecare.

She's been gone a year now. It was August 14 that I found her after her caregivers called to say "Ms. Lila" wasn't answering the door. I am so grateful we didn't have to put her into a nursing home. She might still be lingering on if we had.

She is lucky indeed. It sounds like you're doing about a full time job caring for her as it is. And the disease progresses differently in different people, you know. She may always be easy and agreeable. I hope for your sake (I mean you, your family and your mom) that she is.

I'm having unpleasant, stressful flashbacks, Greg - thinking of all the visits I made to nursing homes and alzheimer's facilities, talking to the staff, seeing the clients there in various stages of health. The more of it I saw the more sick I felt about Mom having to go to a facility. And some of them were pretty nice, but i know how she felt about moving out of her home. She would have been extremely unwilling to go. It would have been her worst nightmare.

Yuck. What a gloomy subject. My apologies for being such a downer!

Well.... there are charities... bunny rescue organizations. Can't you just see it now? The 500-acre Greg H. Memorial Rabbit Preserve and Sanctuary.... you would be immortalized in bronze at the entrance.

Okay, bedtime. Good night, all. Not sure what our plans will be tomorrow but I think they will include lunch at Jamil's. Remember that place, Greg? On Lincoln Boulevard, north of the Capitol in a converted old house. Excellent steaks.

Breitling looks good Judy. Strange how your DJ looks bigger in this pic, must be a trick of the camera. You might be able to date it with the bracelet stamp. on the underside of the bracelet should be a stamp like this.

Means it was made on 42nd week of 2004.

Always feel watches that have silver bezels wear smaller than say a sub with a black bezel. As the bezel blends with the bracelet, so just view dial as the size of the watch. This I think is why the daytona wears small and many women like it. Well that's my theory anyway. In any case that Breitling is a good size watch and sure it won't be too small for him, unless he's used to wearing giant watches. Anyway as Carl keeps telling me bigger is not always better.

Since it's Saturday AM and 5:17AM today the Coin Show ends. It's been fun, saw great exhibits and all the major World Mints were here selling their special coin sets(made with Silver or Gold Coin Denominations), also all the Major US Coin Auction companies were here with their displays of upcoming Coin Lots.....

I had lots of fun selling and buying coins and blew my buying budget by over $500.00 on coins for my collections. Two of my purchases were for two Kentucky Post-Revolutionary War Tokens(both were the same coin design but each was in Almost Uncirculated condition) which were minted in Great Britain between 1792-1794(these coins did not show a 'Date')to circulate here in the United States. They were worth one cent each and since our young Government had not completed our own Mint these circulated along with all the other Colonial coins and Mexican Pillar Dollars in use at the time.....

Take care.....Leo

That is a very nice Breitling. I think you'll find the bracelet, and even the entire watch better quality than Rolex.

There is something about the back of Breitlings that I like.

Hi All. finally Hotmail started working again and I was able to upload a few pics. I started a thread over at Breitling but I will post some here. Karis, I wanted to keep it!! LOL Im gonna hunt around for a blue colt for myself. :-) It was comfortable on my wrist too.

Ive been excited like crazy to give this watch to him. So yesterday, under the pretense that I could watch the kids while they prepared for their bbq, I went over early. We were all sitting down having something to drink while the kids were eating. I thought..ok, this is the right time. I had the box in a black bag so he couldn't see it. I asked my nephew what his favourite colour was, he yells out yellow. He's 3.5yrs old..its yellow, what can I say. LOL Then I pull out the box and ask him if the box was the right kind of yellow..he yells out again yes. My brother is sitting there with a stupid grin on his face stunned and not moving. I wish I had been able to capture it. Oh well, I captured it in my head for as long as will remember it. I placed the box in front of him, kissed his cheek, gave him a hug and told him to enjoy it. He didn't move for a few minutes, he was staring at the box. LOL I pushed him to open it cause I wanted to see it on him. He took it out, looking at it, every few seconds he would say "wow". Mission completed with success! That's the reaction I was going for.
He's the best man I know. He deserves it. Its a "just because my sister got a watch I did too" kind of gift. I caught him staring at it during the night, especially when it was darker out. He was checking out his lume. He saw me looking at him and he gave me a wink. He had to go pick up a few things at the store and he was taking it off. I said what are you doing, wear it. He said "I cant wear this to Walmart". I died laughing! Because I made fun of him, he wore it. Then he said when he came home "some chick was staring at my watch in the checkout line". I told him its just a matter of getting used to it. Its no different than his Fortis or his Omega. I think cause this one is shiny and cream coloured it stands out from the sea of black dials. LOL Here are some pics..

Great stuff Judy. I think gifting a watch feels even better than getting one. Apart from the bit later on, when you go home and haven't got a new watch on your wrist. That bit sucks.
