Lots of fantastic shoemakers out there that I've never seen or heard of

It is and for a good portion of your shoemakers will typically make belts. This includes shoemakers such as Edward Green, John Lobb, Crockett and Jones, Alden, and Allen Edmonds. Some of your better shoe retailers and mens stores will sell them.

Even after giving away at least a dozen pairs of shoes a year, I am still embarrassed at how many pairs I have at any given time. I have tremendously managed to cut down buying shoes in the past two years, thank goodness.

I love Cole Haan, AE, Merrell, Keen, and a dozen other brands. Also had a dozen Cowboy and dress boots.

I still love shoes but the appetite has diminished somewhat and I am thankful it has.

Its certainly a good reference for discovering a good portion of what's out there. It's also gotten bigger since just last year. Its just too bad it's not more critical of the various shoemakers unfortunately.

For me it's certainly more than just dress shoes. I really do enjoy all kinds of real nice footwear to include the following from a company in Canada called Viberg. They make some real outstanding boots.

Well it is nice to have this as a resource. However styleforum really has been my best resource. Not only the users and the knowledge they bring to bear but also the vendors as well. Skoaktiebolaget mainly.

Hi Dan,

Thanks again for the link. I checked in with the Alden thread and the consensus is that it is normal....The shoes are very comfortable considering I am only wearing them the second time today and I love the shell look and feel. They fit perfectly and seem to get more comfortable with each step...
But I will probably look to some of the other recommended brands for my next purchase. It is not a huge noticeable deal, but also not something I would expect for a $700 pair of loafers. I think I will reach out to my salesperson and see what they say.
Appreciate all the help.

No problem, sounds like maybe I got it wrong and I apologize for that. I'm not used to seeing that sort of thing but maybe it's fairly common with those type of loafers. Although I've not run into this specific issue this is one of the reasons I refer to style forum when considering purchasing shoes. It certainly helps to be as informed as possible before getting something less than what one believes they can expect. I highly recommend style forum as being a great resource you may want to checkout the classic men's sub forum as well. Still to this day I have no idea why the Alden thread resides in the street wear vs the classic men's sub forum.

They have a number of appreciation threads for various brands. As I said before it can be a mixed bag but typically when considering a brand I tend to go thru the entire thread to familiarize myself with what is there. A good number of the posts can be ignored but then again a fair number has some pretty good information. Sorting through the fanboy stuff and getting to the truth of things gets easier as you start working your way through the thread.

There are a couple of threads were more established users have rated various shoemakers these are pretty interesting as well. At some point I may find a few and post some links here if a enough people are interested. They are a bit older now however and don't include Shoemakers such as Enzo Bonafe which I think most people should consider any time they are in the market for that $500 or so shoe.

Good luck,

Dan

For some reason I'm more a short wing person. I have at least 4 different Edward Green short wings and a number of others from other shoemakers as well. I've been kinda getting into the split toes and Adelaides lately however.

Will do. Actually I think the Alden split toe is a fabulous choice, but I think my preference would be in cigar.

Wow! I am not one of those people that are "in" to dress shoes, even though I have to wear a suit most of the time I tend to buy my shoes at regular clothing stores and they are nowhere near the quality of the ones you guys are discussing. But I got to tell you, those look amazing!

After reading all of Dan's links, watching a few dozen YouTube shoe videos, and hunting down where all the best shoes are sold in the UAE, I think I'm ready to start trying some on.

Paul- fly over here and we'll hunt down some shoes for you to wear at the GTG next week.

Paul,

Anytime your ready to make that jump, let us know and I'll more than be willing to provide the push.

Just remember this may very well take away some money from your watch fund.

Paul has the money now. Samsonite bought Tumi, so he won't have as strong a draw on his luggage budget.
