Yeah, common sense can take you a long way. You can be highly educated and not have much common sense. Moderation, discipline, self control and common sense. If you have those traits you should be good to go..

1) Asking people who don't drink what they think about alcohol is like asking a vegan what they think about meat. Take their responses with a grain of salt.

2) Drinking does not make you a bad person. My doctor of 20+ years is 70 yrs old and drinks a martini before dinner, splits a bottle of wine over dinner with his wife of 50 years and also has a nightcap. In his words "We enjoy it and we're not hurting anyone, so why not?" I have football parties at my house every fall and the next morning my trashed house looks like the remnants of a frat party. These are 50ish+ doctors, lawyers, professional people who have their acts together and are leaders in the community. Some people like to drink, others don't. Some handle it fine, others don't.

3) Don't let anyone (including your wife) pass judgement on you just because they read somewhere that some doctor said XX amount of alcohol is bad for you. Ask your wife why she mentioned it. If she can explain how your alcohol intake is affecting your lives negatively, then adjust. If she just says "I read it in a book" then just say "hey, I enjoy it and it's not hurting you, me, our relationship or anyone else, so why not?" From a health standpoint, I think you're completely fine. I would confirm this with a doctor who drinks.

4) Personally, I find people who enjoy a drink to be a hell of a lot more fun than people who don't. Life is short, enjoy it! Would you rather die at 92 having lead a boring life or die at 91 having had some fun? I cannot imagine football fall tailgate weekends without wings and beer, my god that would be torture.

Only you can decide if it's a problem. We can't, but I think you know where I stand.

Likewise ask another alcoholic what he thinks about alcohol and you’ll have a drinking buddy

I used to drink quite a bit in my 20's. Like 20-30 drinks a weekend. Now in my late 30's, I normally have 1-2 drinks every 2 weeks. I usually drink more when I'm traveling and on vacation or if there's a special event going on. Since C19 put an end to traveling this year and going out, I've cut back quite a bit.

Let's call it by the proper name "Cannabis " yes, in my opinion and I've done both cannabis is much safer than alcohol. Never heard in my lifetime anymore over dosing or dying from cannabis. Can't say the same for alcohol since it does damages to your liver, blood pressure, skin, weight and sleep those things are important for a healthy life. Give me good flower and I'm good .

The reality is, and sorry to be a buzz kill, but the research is increasingly not in Alcohol's favor, and in excess negatively impacts every major organ in the body and has been linked to multiple cancers. Moderate drinking is 2 standard drinks per day for men, one for women, and less for those of us 60 and over, over that and one may incur the negative impact.

Every day for several years 4- 6 craft beers or 6 drinks of red wine and a shot of digestif either limoncello, brandy and whisky.

By my own volition I decided to cut down to 2 drinks and only when I'm eating - which is just dinner. Am into intermittent fasting for 2 years now.

Been drinking cherry juice and cranberry juice for a month now.

It's all about health, happiness & family. The rest are just necessary inconveniences we have to deal with.

Indica is my preference but since now there's so many hybrid strains it all depends on every individuals body. We can smoke a bowl of the same flower and have different effects. I just like that after I smoke my aches and pains are not even felt because of the body high, sometime when I watching something good on TV I don't even feel my body. My brain is focused on what I'm watching and the body is on lockdown. Now that I'm older I only smoke after dinner and before going to sleep. You can take all the drugs away, just leave me some good top shelf cannabis flower and I'm happy as heck..

I have several friends who smoke, especially since it is legal in my state now, and I have tried it but I just don’t enjoy it. It makes me dizzy. I prefer alcohol much better. Wondering if I smoked too much or what, but I hated it.

Don’t drink during the week unless on vacation. Weekend drinker here but not every weekend. Headed to the store to get a pint of vodka for tonight since I am off work rest of week.

If you're not an experience smoker with todays cannabis being so high in THC that could really make things bad for you. I say try to take a few tokes and see how you feel. You friends might smoke a whole bowl because their resistant is high but you may only need two or three tokes if it good cannabis. Hey, everybody is different just like some people can drink 6 pints and be good and some might just drink two and it fine for them. All depends on you resistant and sometimes it's just not for you...

If you really want to know and are concerned, perhaps, consider an alcohol forum.

Interesting thread. I was drinking too much and was really worried about my liver and being on cholesterol med. My wife was giving me a hard time as well. So I made a deal with her, I stop for 12 months in exchange for letting me buy this!

Haven’t touched alcohol since 12/31. I am hoping when my year is up that I drink in much more moderation.

From experience, when a loved one(s) take notice and express it; then, ponder it intensely.

I have a glass of wine here and there. As mentioned before, drinking at home isn't the same without friends and family or out and about.

I don't drink a whole lot, and its been pretty much nonexistent since the pandemic started. Like another poster said, it isn't the same at home.

If your wife thinks you have a problem, then you probably do. She should know you better than anyone.

I hope confronting the subject together leads to success, whatever success looks like. Good luck.

I used to drink multiple days/week and during the weekends. Not always to inebriation but often a little buzz. I black out very rarely (a couple of times in my life) and I don’t drive, get violent, etc.

After my wife got pregnant during the pandemic, I have cut down considerably. I do look forward to socializing and enjoying cocktails again, but I don’t really miss drinking as much as I used to.
