I digress the nicknames.

Oddly enough the SA at the AD in bellagio this past weekend in Las Vegas, had zero clue to actual reference model numbers, and said - I don’t understand that, call them by their name. ie, Batman, sprite, ghost etc.

I have got to say that I always thought it was a little silly, but I don't really care much one way or the other. Currently I have a Seadweller and a Deepsea and so far I don't think they have a goofy name attached to them. I used to have a BLNR / Pepsi and that one did not bother me, except that I don't like the drink Pepsi.

The only nicknames that are acceptable are pre hype classic names.
Pepsi
Coke
Rootbeer
Paul Newman

Lesser known.
Full yellow gold sub with black dial and bezel - Land Lord.

I think Rolex likes the nicknames. It keeps the normies interested and spending.

I feel it’s typically the more youthful professional people that come up with these names…In my older world if someone sees one of my Rolex’s and gets excited and starts with the nick names..ahhh!!..It’s just a watch nothing more..nothing less..

My SA corrected a guy in front of me about saying Batgirl. I know everybody likes to point out googling nicknames on Rolex.com but interestingly, he says Rolex has discouraged employees from using nicknames? No idea if this is true??

Two of my watches already have the greatest name, namely “Daytona”!

If it happened organically over time - cool (Pepsi, Panda, Root beer).

It's the "what are we going to nickname this color variation" stuff that is childish IMO. But its not like i get angry about it.

Don't we have bigger worries in our lives than to worry about using nicknames watches (which you can or cannot use, depending on your preference)??

I like the ones that I think are good - and don’t like the ones I think are bad.

I wish Riddler would have caught on Vs Sprite.

I also think Superman would have been a better choice than Pepsi.

The Coke doesn’t make sense to me - Coke is Red & White. Black was never part of Coke until Coke Zero about 4 years ago.

End of the day doesn’t really matter - the actual watches are what’s important and they are pretty awesome.

Superhero names are so awful. Coke/Pepsi/Rootbeer have been around for over 30 years (+++). Sprite makes much more sense.

I like how you have a nickname for the word “nickname.”

Perhaps a better nickname would be “colorful racing identity”

I think the world has many more things to be concerned over than a jeffin nickname, deep down who cares, seriously .. some I think are fine others are daft, but in all honesty I couldn’t give a fig ..
Pepsi, Kermit, best ones i think ..

No problems with the nicknames. I catch myself using numbers and nicknames interchangeably and it doesn't seem to cause anyone any real problems. If anything, I have to use the nicknames more often when talking with people about a reference as many don't care to remember all of the numbers. Never understood the vitriol some seem to have regarding the names.

I don’t like comics so I’m not a fan of comic book nicknames. Otherwise I like them. Actually thinking about it, it’s more I don’t like comic nicknames for GMTs.

Hulk for the Submariner is fine, but maybe that’s because I like Hulk and I don’t like Batman.

Top tier nicknames:

PN and JM
Pepsi and Coke
Bluesy
Hulk
Smurf
Kermit
Rootbeer

Mid:

Cookie Monster
Sprite
Wimbledon
Tiffany

Bottom:

Batman
Batgirl
Starbucks
Cermit

Dumpster:

Ghost
Pikachu
Bruce Wayne

I would throw "cookie monster" in the dumpster too. That one is really awful.

I find amusing that grown man have to give nickname for their watches and they name their watches after fictional cartoon characters.

Nicknames are shorthand for talking about watches. I like talking about watches. Some nicknames are pretty silly though and end up being a little diminishing. I’m looking at you Batgirl.

I refuse to refer to any of my Rolex watches by the stupid nicknames.

Its a bit childish and pathetic in my opinion but I’m sure some people love it.

This is a great delineation. I don't call my watch a Smurf at a boutique. I just call it a Submariner Date. Same thing with "president." It's a Day-Date; the "president" (not presidential) is referring to the bracelet. The obvious "Pepsi" & "Coke" nicknames are perfect. The "Hulk" and "Kermit" and "Cookie Monster" and "Bruce Wayne" are juvenile.

You’re right, what was I thinking?

It might be that I like Cookie Monster. “C” is for cookie it’s good enough for me! Cookie cookie cookie starts with “C”. Classic!
