CJs are my faves though just received these cool McQueen Playboy chukkas (no not that Playboy) from the people who bought the patented rights from Hutton (the guys who made McQueens Playboys in the 60s)

Well as long as it’s only a couple of months. Those Glencoes are nice though so the wait will be worth it. I remember when the Glencoes first came out and for some reason I didn’t think too much of them. But since then they’ve grown on me and if I didn’t already have a pretty healthy rotation of boots I would probably have to pick up a pair.

Thanks. I still have a bit of time. I told myself no more for 2017.

My birthday is in February so that seems like an appropriate time to order my next pair. Actually, I got the process started for my Galways in February of this year and took delivery in September. That was a long 7 months!

Those look pretty cool! I've heard that gum soles wear pretty quickly, but those are super thick so you shouldn't have any problems.

Yeah these soles are rock solid and way better then the Sanders version which wore pretty quick

I definitely know that I'd like a pair of split toes, so now it's a matter of figuring out which ones to go with. I wish I had time to stop at the JM Weston boutique when I was in NYC, but I've pretty much ruled those out in favor of the EGs or G&Gs. Now, JL is a third option.

The upside with G&G and JL is their leather offerings may be a bit more unique than EG. I'll need to inquire with JL about pricing and lead times for a MTO. The good thing with JL is that I can see their shoes in person at the Costa Mesa boutique whereas I don't have a local place to see G&G.

Going to use this as an excuse/stepping stone to eventually get into higher quality stuff.

I work in tech and my office environment is very casual. I'll typically wear Cole Haan in the office, which is perfect for here.

Reading through here, it appears some frown on the brand, which I can sorta understand, but I think thy represent a decent value to more casual wearers.

I used to wear Cole Haan before moving onto nicer shoes so I’d like to think that my thoughts are based on experience and just not hot air.

At the right price, I think Cole Haan makes fine shoes. If you can get them on sale for $100 or less, which I did, I don’t think there is much to complain about. At full MRSP, I don’t believe you get what you pay for and there are much better options such as Allen Edmonds.

I agree with this, but when they're all 50% off like they are this week, I think there is some decent value there.

They were better 20 years ago. They were bought out by Nike and outsourced everything as most big companies do. I have some Cole Haans that are 20+ years old and are hand made. A couple pairs of their hand made Italian line Bragano as well. These are well made shoes that have lasted for years and still look and wear well. I still like some of their styling, but when you compare a modern pair with the old...big difference in quality.
Still I agree when on sale a decent work option. I have a couple pairs of the "air" soled wingtips I use for traveling and they are comfortable and look fine for my needs. I probably will not bother with refinishing them though.

C&J's are my favorite shoes these days.

The Galways aren't cheap so you must have been impressed enough to buy them. I think you'll find that this will be a worthwhile investment as C&J makes really great shoes/boots.

Also, good call on the shoe trees. I used to use generic trees until I bought my pair of EG Galways. They came with trees similar to yours. They are semi-lasted but fit damn near perfectly. I don't think I will go back to generic trees going forward.

Congrats again and just remember, the addiction only gets worse from here.

Yeah, $100 for a shoe tree seems a bit obscene, but they look nice and seem to come in individual sizes. I got a 10 shoe tree for my 10 size boot. Most importantly they are wider than any other shoe trees I have. They are applying extra pressure that should stretch the leather a little bit at the sides.

I liked a lot of their boots, but these immediately stood out to me.

I don't personally have any. However they have a number of different lines and some of which are made in third world locations and one line as I vaguely remember in the UK. Vaguely if I remember correctly the 1880 line is made in the UK and if that is correct that is the line of their shoes you would want to purchase and not those made in places such as India. If I remember correctly the 1880 line is good representation of quality for that particular price. However there are also many other options at that particular price as well. Since it's been so long since I last looked I would have to refer you to Styleforum and the Loake appreciation thread to get the most current information.
