Bernd Maylander led the most laps today, but let's go back in history, 14 years to be exact, when Alonso overtook Maylander at the last corner for the win!

Where's his trophy? Points?

F1 has some ticket refunding to do.

Half points…

I wonder what Liberty Media and the Belgian Grand Prix Organizer, Spa Grand Prix SA, might do under the circumstances. All the latter has said is this:
https://www.spagrandprix.com/en/after-gp-statement

Also wonder what spectators on Sunday would consider as fair recompense. This was a sold out event with many Gold, Silver and Bronze uplifted packages. The basic price was a small percentage of those special packages. And all other races ran as planned on Saturday & Sunday (F3 & Porsche Supercup).

But F1 was definitely the biggest draw.

Maybe a half-price coupon + guaranteed entry to the 2022 race?

The video won’t play for me here in US.

I’m guessing he tried to explain why F1 doesn’t move a race to Monday, and how he and the Stewards ended up with plan for a half-points event per the regs.

For Race Officials, explaining these things seldom find success. For us, if you are the story, if you are on TV, things have little chance of pleasing a madding crowd.

In all the years I've followed F1, I can't recall them ever carrying over a race to Monday, but considering the next GP is in relatively close in Holland and the fact that the fans weren't allowed to come to the races last year and they braved the conditions all weekend long, it was a lost opportunity for good will. Also TV ratings may have shot up considering nothing else would be competing for viewers on a Monday.

The Official Formula One Thread!

They couldn’t move it to Monday due to prior commits on Monday.

Mainly Trackside Course Marshals & Off-Track Volunteers.

Also, Fans and Families all had other things that took them away from the track. So only a small percentage could have returned.

It was a situation unprecedented until today.

We had a snowstorm do this to us a decade ago at a Spring National race weekend way up North. Qually on Saturday went well and grids were set.

But snowed heavily overnight.

We didn’t have snowplows trackside on Sunday

We tried waiting out sunshine to melt it. That didn’t work and we shortened the eight Races to 4 laps each. Then had the gridded cars follow a pace car on their wet tires for 2 laps. Our Regs allowed halfway point to count for full points in each gridded group.

Of course we had barely a thousand spectators - not a GP overflow crowd. But is was safe, compliant with the regs, and drivers didn’t lose rankings due to Mother Nature.

Guess I wont get to watch the whole 'broadcast' on the PVR coz I only set the timer for 3 hrs...to cover race delays etc.. - But after reading up on this 'race'..I ran out of recording time with a 3 hour delay.
A 2-3 lap 'train' behind the safety car is not a race. When did that rule change from what I thought was a minimum # of laps in a the given 4hr 'window (including red flags...)..??
Either way.. this was a bust for everyone... Ugh..!!

Mazepin got fastest lap outside the top 10 so the FIA dodged a huge bullet there. Makes me wonder if someone within the top 10 got fastest lap, what would've happened.

.5 of a point...
.
The whole thing is absurd. No points should've been awarded as no laps were completed under 'racing' conditions..imo.

It was all done so that F1 and the teams never lost any money. It's a disgrace. It should have been rescheduled for later in the season or the end. Tickets could have been carried over or sent back for a refund. Money grabbing at the expense of the fans, there was no excuse.

Fortunately I was on call and working Sunday, so I could watch the race day in about 10min vs 4 hours.
Very shady. Though it reminded me of Monaco.

Rumors are that MercedesF1 team is waiting for Kimi to announce his retirement soon so they can announce George Russell as their new driver next year with Bottas slotting into Kimi's seat at Alfa Romeo.

Seems to be the rumors in the wind. Honestly a straight kick in the balls for Botas though.

They need to refund the fans for that mess. It seems that F1 has no idea how to make common sense decisions for anything not specifically addressed in their endless “sporting regulations.” A total embarrassment to the sport, and the drivers should refuse the points awarded.

We need all the Kimi memes, radio messages and videos of him throughout his career to be featured on Sky Sports this weekend. My favorite is when his McLaren stopped at Monaco and he headed straight to a yacht in the marina rather than go back to the garage.

Thus just in from Kimi via FaceBook.

This is it. This will be my last season in Formula 1. This is a decission I did during last winter. It was not an easy decission but after this season it is time for new things. Even though season is still on, I want to thank my family, all my teams, everyone involved in my racing career and especially all of you great fans that have been rooting for me all this time. Formula 1 might come to an end for me but there is a lot more in life that I want to experience and enjoy. See you around after all of this! Sincerely Kimi

So what’s the weather forecast for Dutch GP???

Periods of sun punctuated by clouds of orange smoke…

Truly, sun…

Hoping for more rain, as it'd be good to see if drivers and their cars can handle wet conditions. Just hoping F1 isn't turning into NASCAR.

There won’t be rain in the forecast but lots of rain in the interwebs about Belgian GP.

Best quote about it…

“Half points were awarded. It’s not ideal but if you can’t reward someone for the race, reward them for the bravery in qualifying.

A lap like George Russell did in qualifying in the absence of a full race should be rewarded.

As I say, it’s not ideal, but it’s where we are. The weather just wasn’t in our corner on Sunday.”
