Greg, I noticed that your mom could hold a coffee mug by herself. Could she walk at that time? How long has she been in a nursing home? Is her husband still living?

No, never joined the alumni association. But the school still hits me up often... maybe thirty years after graduation they think I might change my mind.

Im afraid to go shopping. I know if I leave, I will come home with the MacBook pro. I was looking at the Toshiba, has full HD and is half the price, plus is a touch screen too so those times when I just cant see that well.

My next purchase was gonna be a tennis bracelet, but the one I was wearing next to my watch scratched my watch. I thought I was safe with a full bezel but that's not gonna work out for me. I wear my Pandora on my other wrist as a lot of those charms are from my family and friends. Now Im looking at earrings again. And dang it..I really don't want to give all of my money to Apple.

Will check out the Toshiba and post back. Only way to know if I like it is to go check it out. I wish I could take a self restraint pill. On a positive note, the electronic stores don't sell diamonds or watches.

Have a good afternoon all..

This is the Baby's computer. I think she said it was an Imac or something like that. Maybe you can tell by this poor pic. She said it was mandatory to have for college. Not sure if it is or if she knew I would buy it if she said that.

Yes, and i finally gave in and got an iphone 5 this summer. It's a small rectangular miracle, and I still don't know what all it is capable of!

I came back empty handed. The Toshiba was ok, nothing great. Too bad, the specs were nice.

I know I want the MacBook pro. Why didn't I come home with one? Well..the $100 promo is over and there were too many teens whining at the virtues of having a $2200 machine because the $1000 machines couldn't possibly do what they need it for in high school. They were too young to be college age. So too many customers and not enough sales people. I need to go to an Apple store next time. And I think I'm going to wait another 2 weeks for these kids to get back to school so that when I do go shopping in the middle of the day I can do it peacefully.

I found out that HP in the US lets you customize your laptop on their site. We don't have that option in Canada which is just BS. I like the HP Envy touchsmart. Its got 4th generation i7 processor and is fast. Only problem, its resolution is only 1366 x 768. The only place you can get that model in full HD is in the US on the HP site. Canadian HP site doesnt have customizing available. If it came in HD, I would get it. I like the look and they feel of the keypad. I checked on HP USA and clicked what I wanted, and was $1150 for the fully upgraded unit! UGH! I SO miss living in the US. Im going to check and see if I can order from HP US site and have it delivered to be held at the shipping office in Buffalo. I might have to go get new skiis for my nephew and so would be worth it for me. I would be happy with it if it was true HD.

THEN.. I can still get my earrings.

Anyway.... 1st things 1st I guess. :-)

Karis, that MacBook Air is 13.3. Would you be ok with using one that small for your regular computer? I thought of it myself, then I went to look at it, and found myself squinting too much. I want to prolong my facelift, so Im getting the 15 and trying to smooth out the wrinkles naturally.

Judy, I use a MacBook Pro 13" even for my work, which requires a lot of reading. I was trying to get the smallest one that would work for me, for portability and weight and just preference. You do get used to the 13" screen real estate, and more significantly, the 15" is wider, mostly, which to me doesn't make it more useful: the eye can only read across so far. Of course we all interact differently with tech, so maybe 15" is better for you.

I didn't get retina display--wasn't available when I bought last fall, plus wasn't worth extra $$ to me.

I chose Pro vs. Air because I still use a disk drive, as do several of my clients. And I didn't get the SSD (solid state) hard drive, although I considered it.

I like the MacBook 15 without the retina display as well but side by side, there is a difference with the screens. That's why I want true HD for sure.

Happy Shopping!

Art I already have progressives!

Sometimes I just take my glasses off and bring the object, if small enough, right up close to my eyes. Then I can see it. Hmmmm... wonder if the girls can take that another way to? If the object is large enough or decent size then I don't need to worry about it.

Hi, Judy. Let me add a very belated welcome to TRF and this thread. I don't post much here, but I do read it regularly to keep up on the coffeeshop goings on.

I also have progressives, which I only wear for driving at night. My wife made me get the progressives because she thought I could see the dashboard better with the near vision portion, but I find that the distance portion is better. I only use near vision glasses for computer distance.

I never wear reading glasses. Fortunately, I don't need them. I have been nearsighted in one eye and farsighted in the other most of my life, so I learned to compensate very early.

Ty Rock. :-)

I got these special custom Japanese lenses that are supposed to reduce the difficulty of wearing a traditional progressive. The doc suggested it because at work, I have many different fields of vision, computer charting, patient care etc.. its not one specific task I do. I think I need to get retested. They might actually be hindering my sight. I do better with my single vision contacts and when I need to read I put my sexy librarian readers on. In summer its not so bad cause I do wear my contacts so I can wear my Maui Jim sunglasses.

I'm also partial to Maui Jims. They're the only sunglasses I'll spend a couple hundred dollars on. But they are great glasses and far and away my favorites.

Thank you. I wish I could say it was orignal, but I got it off a Barnes & Noble bookstore wall in my neighborhood. Unfortunately, I can't find who originated the saying. I'll have to go back to the store to see if they listed who originated it.

Yep... got to get the slug family in gear. I want to go to a touring exhibit at our downtown art museum - it's a collection of Italian Renaissance paintings from Glasgow, Scotland. OKC is one of six North American museums participating. My kids are moaning and groaning about going, but I might drag them to it anyway. We don't do enough of this kind of thing, and dang it, I want to see it.

Following up on Art's comment: My daughter used to actually turn her back inside the salons when I dragged her to the museums. Just to p#ss me off, knowing full well how important this is to me. Now as a big girl she is truly an art lover, and cherishes that part of what I am. It's a family tradition...I got it from my dad.

It sounds like a spectacular show, Lisa. You could be devilish and go twice, once just for you. I can't get enough of that stuff and know quite a lot about it...let me now wax boring again...

We need to go look again as it's more for my husband, but the beauty of the Air is the size and weight. Amazing! Will have to play around with it to be sure.
