The Saffredi is another GREAT wine -- Hails from Tuscany -- and is a nice Cab, Merlot blend -- might have a little petit Verdot in there also...should be a bold, intense elegant wine - for the region. Parker rated it 96 -- so again -- it shouldn't disappoint.

If it were me -- I would have the Bordeaux by itself -- or maybe with a nice cheese board -- the Italian -- would definitely be with food (as I do with most of my Italian wines wines). They tend to have more acidity -- making them pair much better with a 'bigger' meal.

Two GREAT wines right there my friend!! Enjoy!!!!!

Thanks Roger..
These were a gift from a purveyor a few years ago, 6 bottles each, so I just put them in the back and haven't touched them Yet. Thank you so much !

Good to hear about Saffredi. I read about both but reading isn't actually someone telling you how it taste. Looks nice wine both of them Excited to try them soon.

Pulled one of these out from my stash for dinner. It went so well with wagyu beef and wasabi. Fine grained tannins, medium weight, flavoursome/savoury aromas of spice, licorice and berry. It still has at least 5-10 years in it.

Wish I could say it was simply a typical Sunday night.......

Guy was in town for a medical conference, and he wanted to share the Montrose and d'Yquem. We assembled the troops, and collectively knocked it out of the park. Everything showed well. WOTN nose-wise was the DRC........such a beautifully complex melange of floral and spices. Palate-wise, for me it was the DRC just nosing out the '82 Cheval Blanc for 1st. '97 Salon was close behind, and the favorite of the ladies that were in attendance. But really, any of the bottles could've been a star at any other gathering.

I've had Salon few times and never been disappointed! DRC I've had what can only be considered as "off" vintages however it's still amazing even when not in a peak year.

There were a total of 8 of us. My wife and my friend's new girlfriend were the two ladies in attendance, so really more like 7.5 drinkers....

Our server and the GM both got plenty of opportunities to taste the lineup. My friends who own the place were unfortunately elsewhere that night, and were taken aback to say the least at the lineup we brought.

Great dinner tonight at the backyard "Creekside Cafe" with a lot of garden vegetables and a 2004 Fritz Cabernet Sauvignon from the cellar. Basil for the pesto potatoes came out of the garden, along with the green beans and squash, and the jalapeños for the ABTs. Oh, and the Rosemary that seasoned the veggies and steaks.
