Ha, I am fond of a white roman dial! I'll definitely try on some AKs and hopefully I can get my hands on a 36mm Explorer too! For now my Daytona is my daily wearer.

41mm might be pushing it for size (I think that's what it is) but man I love the vintage look of that dial and bezel. I could admire it on hubby's wrist pretty satisfactorily.

Wow wow wow, change! But when the heart says something you gotta listen. GL with your hunting. Judy and I will hold down the Jubilee/white Roman fort. lol

Wes, the watch box is fabulous, as is the collection.

Oh J, don't lose faith in me! It is still a beautiful piece, but it doesn't hold the same place in my heart that it once did.. I've even surprised myself.

In all honesty, the Daytona could be my perfect piece, but I do still think about something else on oyster....an Explorer or maybe an AK, though I don't think I could pull off a 34mm.
I know you loved that classic DJ for a long time... you had two identical ones at different times, as I remember. But tastes do evolve, I think... I'm kind of off of the 40mm size for now. Sold the Exp. II and the Tudor Chrono, and now am down to two 36mm, the vintage Omega (about 34mm) and the Ball, which is actually quite small, but the thick case/curved crystal gives it some presence.

Is the Explorer 114270 the 39mm size? I can't remember if you've ever had a watch with a black dial.

You're right Lisa....I did have that same white roman DJ twice! Good memory! As you know, I started contemplating a dial change, then maybe a bracelet change, as something started to bother me....I even surprised myself as I thought I'd have that one forever....but yes, tastes do evolve. I still admire it as a beauty though .

Even though my Daytona is 40mm, it's very comfy, and my favorite piece I've owned. Maybe I should let it be, but thoughts of another do keep me looking. I was talking about the older Explorer at 36mm which I prefer. Need to try one on though to see.

I'm not usually big into black dials....only one I've had was a Submariner 16610 that I owned for about four and a half years. I do love the clean look of the Explorer though, and the great legibility.

I still like the look of the AK, but I think at 34mm, it would feel too small for me.

We shall see!

Anything can happen.... I am almost sure that, many years ago, you and I talked about the Daytona and you said it wasn't really a watch that you'd be interested in owning. Am I crazy for thinking we actually had that conversation?

Do you think you're definitely going to be looking outside of the DJ family? DJs have lots of options with the oyster bracelet, you know... and you'd have a date function.

We had that conversation??? I really don't remember, though it's entirely possible...

Heck, anything CAN happen, and I know there are so many DJ options. I don't mind not having a date though. Guess I'll have to visit some ADs and see if something catches my eye.

Yes, I do. The blue dial was so striking and the size was nice. It just wasn't comfortable. The clasp was so wide that it really dug into the sides of my wrist. I was looking at some old pics of it the other day and felt a little wistful that it was gone. It was my second watch to have a smooth bezel and oyster bracelet combo. Speaking of tastes changing - at that time I thought the jubilee/fluted bezel combo was sort of stodgy. Now I love it.

But I still have a thing for blue dials.

I would love to be in your shoes for a day, Dawna, to get a glimpse of your buckaroo lifestyle! Is your son competing?

Hope you have a great time. Sweet dreams!

Funnily enough, it's the opposite with me in that the smooth bezel/oyster combo didn't used to appeal to me, but now it does! Love the fluted bezel too though!

You should check out the newer Date models as the new style oyster bracelet is awesome. Could be blue time for you!

I hope I don't become disillusioned by my watch. I know I just got it so cant imagine it right at the moment. I know I like a lot of variety too and am trying to plan out my collection accordingly. I don't want any fashion watches in my lineup and I tend to steer toward the manlier looking styles. Hence that I don't prefer diamonds in my watch. The Date with black dial and alternating diamonds made me really think cause I like it. It was more comfortable than the DJ I have now which Im still getting used to and is a work in progress. I didn't like the dial choices for the date. But the 34" worked best for me out of all the sizes in a Rolex.

J...no problem..the 2 J's can keep the roman numeral/jubilee alive!

Those Tudors only came with diamonds and those are the bracelets. The lighting in the store makes the SS look yellow, but is in fact SS.

Rodeo'ing looks like fun. I have never been to the Calgary Stampede mainly because I cant handle crowds of that volume size. LOL
Remember.. save a horse, ride a cowboy.

Lisa, I too have a soft spot for blue dials. Im having a lot of difficulty finding a blue I like. Its not like a black dial, although there are different hues, just very suble with black. With blue, so many shades. I like Omega Pro.. and I think (imo only) that the ceramic new non wave dial is better shade of blue than the previous one. I am still unsure about it. And the Breitling Galactic blue is pretty as well, not a royal kind of blue at all. The Tudor.. was a gorgeous ink blue..I loved it. I just don't know about the dial. I really don't want to spend $$$ on it with diamonds if I can find a DJ without gold for a bit more. Lets see 1st how I get used to the 1st DJ size though. LOL

Ok folks..heading to a bbq a couple hrs from home so Im gonna start getting ready to roll. Have some personal prepping to do.

Judy, what size is your wrist? Many women like a 34mm. I once hd a 34mm Breitling but eventually parted with it after feeling as though it was a bit small. Need to try the AK again as its been a while, but I also gravitate towards the mens styles and have for many many years.

Dawna, I hope you'll post some pics of the rodeoing--not asking for personal stuff, but if you have interesting ones of the ambience, we could pretend we're in the bleachers with ya.

Here was my blue dialed Date, Judy. 34mm was a good size for me, but I agree that the dial options are way too limited. Sometimes I wonder how much longer Rolex will be producing the Date... they haven't introduced any new dials for years, that I know of.
