I have mixed feelings about Bottas. On the one hand he was brought in knowing Mercedes didn't want a fast driver to compete with Lewis so that Merc and Lewis would win based on the cars utter dominance. The fact that RBR has produced a car that is on par with Mercedes in the last year of this formula is surprising. I don't want to harp on about Max, but Sergio Perez was brought in with much fanfare, but in 13 races this year, he's only been on podium 2 times so he's not really helping Max as a wingman and Max is still leading the championship. That's why Bottas had to go in favor of Russell.

As an aside, Bottas can compete with Lewis in qualifying because he always has a fresh set of tires, but once tire management in race situations is required, he goes backwards.

Russell will challenge Lewis straight away, but I think he will need a little more seasoning to be a complete driver as he's shown lapses in judgement and crashes with Williams.

All that said, it's going to be an incredible future with all the talented young drivers in F1. The battles between Max, Charles, Lando, George and even Gasly if he gets in a good car will be epic.

MB have used him and now hung him out wet. Alpha isn’t a competitive car and a shame for someone with speed like him. With Russell coming over the narrative will be different since he’s now the future golden boy, will be interesting how they position him along Lewis next year. Remember, no matter what, there’s a number one and number two on any team and the only unknown is whether the drivers obey that on the track.
Bottas has had a lot of bad luck but eventually it's just his lack of overall skill compared to Lewis is the reason why he always seems like he gets screwed over. If Bottas had better race pace, he would have more good luck since he would've been able to take advantage of opportunities when they materialize.

Notice how Lewis always seems to have amazing luck. He has the skills necessary to take advantage of opportunities when they show up.

Rumors swirling that Giovanazzi may be out of Alfa. It's too bad as I think he's done a good job and should continue. War of words between Schumacher and Mazespin as Mick says the relationship is unrepairable. Hard to believe he would say something like that regarding a teammate he will have to race with for at least another 1.5 years. Schumacher's move to Alfa as a Ferrari junior driver may be forthcoming.

I miss the days of Mika and Michael.

So... like I wish Michael (Schumacher) had a teammate better him, agree would love to see RUS take on HAM. BOT did great, had his chance, etc, so now let's get the next driver in there to challenge HAM just as I wished MS had a solid challenger back in the day. Is RUS the next Mika?

Just saw a report a couple of hours ago. VER’s car was given a deeper inspection than all others after Dutch GP. It was a random draw from top 10 - so no bias there.

They looked at gearbox control system hydraulics, all attached sensors, the loom, connections to the ECU, and routing to other control units.

It passed - but can you imagine the hubbub had it not?

Red Bull has released Alex Albon from the RBR family so he can race with Williams next year. RBR says they would like the option of future involvement with Albon, but as it stands, Toto's will has been established.

On to Italy and the Cathedral of Speed - MONZA!

Red Bull just released this really well done promotional video with excellent videography. If you've ever been to Palermo, Sicily, you'll appreciate this!

I remember Renault had similar demands with Ocon. Toto had to give up management of Ocon in order for him to race for Renault/Alpine.

Thanks for posting this up. A lot of work went into the video - the only thing to improve it would have been a launching ramp flat 360° spin sticking the landing onto a moving boat (CGI of course).

So based on today’s entry list filed with Stewards, no driver changes reported by teams since last weekend.

I don't think any team is going to change drivers now unless someone gets C19 or has a serious injury that knocks them out for a few months.

Most likely yes. I don't think Bottas would do something to screw LH or the team, but last weekend was close to the line. In MotoGP a rider (Vinales) was canned from the factory Yamaha team a couple weeks ago because he was not happy with his treatment from the team and tried to grenade the engine by overreving it on the long straights etc. His teammate is leading the championship at the moment FWIW.

I knew that Monza would be a Mercedes track, but damn.... 4/10 ahead of Max!! That Merc P/U has a lot of grunt.

Bottas will concede to LH at T1 to get him far enough ahead of VER and then do his best to hold up VER so that he's not a threat to LH. Bottas may be able to duel with VER for a bit until his tires go off and Max gets past but Lewis will be long gone by then. I think it's 18 laps tomorrow, so basically a 20 minute sprint race.

Happy that RIC is closer to Norris and hopefully he's starting to get the handle on the Mclaren.

Any chance RBR signed the wrong driver for their 2nd seat? Pierre seems to be the real 2nd Red Bull out qualifying Perez most of the races this year. Gasley even gave Perez a tow on the 1st run in Q3 and finished ahead of him.

Giovanazzi deserves to keep that seat....

BOT wins - HAM outside of points.
What, no thoughts?

VER on pole. HAM back on row 2 - the dirty side.

Now Sunday should be immense in WDC standings after checkered flag.

Are you one of MV's sponsors?

I noticed, it says 'ORACLE', on his car.

Really happy for Danny Ric. The smile is back.

Really surprised LH could not get closer to Lando than he did. Not having the DRS on the long straight to Parabolica is going to make it a bit harder to pass this weekend.

Max and Lando start on the clean side of the track. RIC and HAM on the dirty side. Leclerc on the clean side in 5th will be a threat to HAM. It will be an interesting start for sure.

Anyone remember if the undercut was strong at this track last year? Pitstops may be the way track positions get shaken up tomorrow.

Bizarre OMG
VER certainly neutralized that 11 sec. pit stop vs. HAM going into T1.

Senna-Prost anyone?

Definitely.

Wow. Rewatched it a few times and really thought it was racing incident. Will look it up. Curious the justification.
