Isn't it weird, although we know cowboys as obviously a US term for an animal herder. We just wouldn't use that word to describe someone like that here. And the only way we would use it is in a slang way to describe someone that does shoddy work. As in the "what rubbish work, that builder is a right cowboy"

Weird hey, think I'm gonna give up on the differences between our languages.

That is odd because here, in general, real cowboys are considered very hardworking. The differences in languages and colloquialisms are so interesting to me!

Any Wizard of Oz fans? I love that movie. 1939 is my favorite movie year.

Just back from seeing it on the big screen in 3-D. It was really good. Amazing really. A complete different experience than on TV.

I do like Wizard of Oz, Art. Can't imagine what it must be like in 3D - especially when the tornado was carrying her house away!

My sister in law and her husband came by this evening, and Karen noticed my Ball watch. She tried it on, liked the size and shape and said she was interesting in having a nice watch in a larger size, with a substantial case. Does anyone have any recommendations for a mechanical watch that would be relatively inexpensive, as in a few hundred dollars? She's never had a mechanical watch... I think she likes the concept of a timepiece that never needs batteries.

Good morning guys.

Those soft boiled eggs pictures made me drool yesterday, thank you Wes!

Glad to know you've got an egg Lisa, I'd like to reserve the next one please...

Wizard of Oz, that's a movie I haven't watched in several years!

Yes they are (as much as you can consider a Rolex movement good, I know I do) but I believe they are single quickset, therefore I believe (though I may be mistaken) that the day will not change quickly when you pull the crown out once, you have to set the time to have it changed.

Good idea, perhaps Bulova has a few nice models as well.

I know this is weird, but the Wizard of Oz scared me SO bad when I was a kid. I literally can still freak myself out thinking about that creepo lady stealing Toto. I'm not a normal, I know.

Congrats Carl on 5 years.

Coincidentally today is also me and Carl's anniversary. We first exchanged pleasantries in a thread here 2 years ago, and the rest is history. Here's to you buddy.

I bet he's forgetten (again)

It scared me to death too. I was thinking about that when I was watching the movie. It's still scary to me.

Seiko, maybe Hamilton.

A guy at work had a fairly cheap mechanical Seiko and it was nothing but trouble, stopping and not keeping good time. I'm sure there are some that are reliable but that would be the risk you might run. I would recommend a quartz at cheaper prices, I know that doesn't fit the requirement.

Me Too.....I was not to keen on those flying Monkey's when I was a child. But every year I would watch it when it came on TV once each year. Also our TV was Black & White back then so when the movie changed to color...ours didn't. Then in 1978 we received a color TV from Grandma and then it changed the whole perspective of watching the movie(especially when I learned the field of flowers were Poppy and that's why Dorothy fell asleep). I did like the part where the House falls on the 'Wicked Witch of the North'.......

I'd ask Uncle Bob to make himself useful and whip up a nice dinner for the two of you.

Always creeped me out when her feet shriveled up, it did yesterday too.

It was really cool to see the make up, the monkeys faces were actually blueish.

Just thought of this - maybe UK reference evolved from our term "drug-store cowboy."

Just looked it up no one knows for sure how the term came about in the UK(Bit like Bob's your uncle) If we heard it in film, we'd distinguish the American usage.

But it has become a slang derogatory term, but also in a jokey way if that makes sense. We even have a program here called cowboy traders. Uncovering shoddy/rippoff workman and companies.

Thank you all, I appreciate the kind thoughts and wishes.

We went to a restaurant on Friday night, just a nice and calm evening with the two of us to enjoy some quality time. She even bought me a small gift that I shall show you shortly.
