That's a Newfoundland right Michael? Our neighbour across the street has two of those. They have a special needs child......deaf, blind and autistic. He LOVES those dogs, and they are quite happy to have him lie all over them all the time. Even knowing that, I'm scared to death when they get taken for a walk and they come by our house. [/QUOTE]

Dear Nancy,

The Newfoundland breed have the sweetest temperament. They will love and lick anyone to death. The breed gets along with all dogs and people. They are a truly loving dog and love companionship. Plus, he likes the pool in our backyard. This breed loves water and has webbed paws.

I had no idea about the webbed paws! I actually petted one of their dogs once, praying all the while that it couldn't tell how terrified I was! I have to walk by their back yard every day. The dogs start barking like mad if they are out, and I don't stop walking, but I say....."It's OK Maggie! It's just me!!"....and quite often they just stop barking. Guess they are getting used to the voice. Hopefully they'll remember it when we meet on the street! I've never had a problem with a dog, but my younger sister has been bitten about 4 times (not seriously, but enough to scare her to death), so I can't help being a bit apprehensive.

Hi, Nancy,

I do understand your concern. The breed can be quite vocal. They like to 'talk' a lot. Yes, the Newfoundland from a reputable registered breeder will bring lots of love to a family, but the other consideration is are the owners of that breed responsible and competent enough to be able to handle and train a breed of that size.

The Newfoundland breed is not for novices. My wife and I have always had large breed dogs and I am quite exact about proper dog obediance. Any dog must know its place in the family.

Have you met the dogs with the owners across the road?

If they are all over wanting attention then they will be fine. If they are somewhat timid of you then that could be a bad sign for a dog. A timid dog if cornered or uncomfortable in its environment may lash out.

I'd meet the dogs and say hello.

Hey Michael thanks for sharing those photos, it looks like a great house in a beautiful setting.

Plenty of room for your boofy (but somewhat cute) dog to bound around

I was just winding you up about the GMT.........don't let those barristers get to you

Just winding me up about the GMT. Cute, very cute.

The back yard pics are a few years old. I'll post some recent ones. Looks far better now that the plants have established.

The building supervisor is coming around tomorrow to get the renos underway.

Don't let the barristers get to me?

I have been cross examined many times over the years by some very good defence barristers during trials and never yet have any of them got the better of me in the witness box. It's all about knowing your investigation, being professional and keeping a cool head when the pressure is on. Sensible jurors can see through all of that.

I love a good trial. It keeps one on their toes.

We had a Newfoundland when I lived in Maine. Great dog and smart too. I used to have to put the back seat down in my little hatchback so he would have enough room to lay down.
Big woolly pup.

The front yard is about 14 months old. The garden retaining walls were very labour intensive for the landscapers. It is Castlemaine Rock that was selected one piece at a time and more or less fitted together like a jigsaw puzzle. It took the landscapers a good couple of months to do the retaining walls alone.

WOW! Michael, is that a house or a motel? I love your home, pal.....especially the pool!!

Dear All,

Thanks kindly for the nice comments.

I'm sure there are far better houses, gardens etc out there. We enjoy it though.

Thanks JJ, the Newfie likes the pool too.

Well, the bathroom company started today. They have already gutted the ensuite and good news no water damage to the floorboards where the original shower base was located. That is a plus. The plumber is working in there at the moment and roughing a few things in. The plumber is back tomorrow to move the shower and toilet waste pipes around to suit the new design.

Next stage will be to remove three older existing windows from the southern side of the house and fit the larger Colonial style to match the rest of the windows in the house.

I'll post a couple of pics later showing the gutted ensuite. It is not a pretty sight though.

Cheers
Michael

Newfoundland? New found land. I remember now. Brings back memories of why the second wife ran for the hills. Hint...sort of like finding virgin grass to mow.

Thanks Bubba. Don't quite understand your thought process there.

No offence intended either.

Sort of a tounge in cheek comment on the fact I am now on wife number four. With that said I should have commented on your nice dwelling. Good job and I know you are enjoying you home. Trust me on this....not understanding my thought process is a good thing. Now for Lisa and Nancy; well that is another topic to discuss.

Wife #4 - You must have a high pain threshold

I am still on the first one. I have a very low tolerance to pain in that regard..........

I like to bloviate that I loved them all and placed each one on a high pedestal and finally; that we all were better for the expierence. My curent wife says I have always been a DOM (dirty OLD man) and most likely treated them like pin cushions. Oh well, so much for looking back.

Never had problems before but for some reason this is giving me grief. If I click on an attachment, it brings me straight to the page that says..."you are not logged in"....and I re-log in to TRF, and up comes ONE attachment so I can see one pic only. Then I have to log off and repeat the process for the next pic. Clearly a glitch on my end.

It was released in 1993 - so you were one little pup! It was set in beautiful 19th century New Zealand and starred Holly Hunter and Harvey Keitel. A great film!
