Hey thanks, my brother - glad you like and appreciate. Having the correct new crystal makes a lot of difference, surprisingly.

Today I'm wearing the most valuable watch I own.

I think it is an interesting story.......

In the very early 1960's I was a young boy. I told my mother that I needed a watch. Men wore watches and since I was approaching the age of seven I certainty qualified. <chuckle>
My mother told me I had better find a job so I could save my money and buy myself one. I, being the spirit I am, starting walking down the block and knocking on doors. I found a lady who said she would pay me a penny a minute to paint her fence. Yep, 60 cents an hour. Each day after school I painted and did various chores until I saved enough money to ride my bike into town and buy a manual wind Timex watch at Woolworth's.

A few years ago my wife found it in an old jewelry box. It wasn't running and had obviously been subjected to moisture over the years. I kept it and always wondered.

Like some of you I have a few Swiss watches that are pretty pricey and are serviced by experts. I called one of them recently and asked if they might know of any way I could get my old watch restored. I was amazed when they had his contact info. I called this old guy in Florida who when I said, "Alex suggested I call you. This is silly and it isn't worth anything but I was wondering.." He interrupted me and said, "If you know Alex then you have some high dollar watches. I'd be willing to bet you wouldn't trade your old Timex for one of those Swiss jobs or you wouldn't be calling me." He was right; lesson learned.

He is a Florida snowbird so we made arrangements for me to ship it to his house in Delaware. Last week he called and told me he had all the parts needed to bring it back to original condition. When I asked him how much his reply was, "Would $40 be too much?"

It arrived today. For the first time in 50 years it is on my wrist ticking away.......

Great post, thanks for sharing. Nice story. Here is my first watch, also a Timex (manual wind, of course) - I was 7 and it was a gift for my birthday that year. It cost £4.00 and I still have it. It still runs, but only just. It has never been serviced; I enquired in Zurich and was told it would be about 300 bucks, so I said I'd think about it! I may get it done one day, but although it has sentimental value, I could never say it's the most valuable watch I own!
