They need one watch for mere mortals, one "ooooh" piece and a smattering of dial updates IMHO.

The patents are the key things I think too.. Ruby Red bezel is one.

Don't forget the Rubber Strap patent too .

I think we'll see a Sub on a Rubber strap too.

I think it's a new watch with 21mm bracelet.... Just can't figure out what Rolex would use the rotating bezel for.... Perhaps they are using a spin off of the SKD movement on something new and more sporty?

Remember the patent for a rubber bracelet - was that 21mm as well?

It's only fitting the sport models have islightly more presence than the dressier DD and DJ. In my view the Sub should evolve to 42mm also.

There are smaller cases for smaller wrists like the 39mm Exp I.
I don't get this, why on earth would they have just updated the Sub and not blown it up over the 41mm+ mark if there entire range has just gone through the same process?

Well, 2007 + 6 years is a short time by the Rolex calendar ;-)
That's true, but on the other hand the GMT2 and Exp2 have shared a case design for a looong time. Rolex might be consolidating to achieve economies of scale.

The reality is, I think, Rolex is a high volume luxury brand. And Milgauss, GMTs, and yes even the iconic Sub has not sold as anticipated for them. The ADs are over stocked it seems. Maybe they regret not launching the GMT C and Sub C with a 42 case and they're now revamping across the sport line.

Well 6 years in production for the GMT = not so bad, however 2 years for the Sub = monumental failure IMO. Still can't see either getting a case makeover.

FYI.....GMT Master II / ref.116710 was updated and released 2007 over the outgoing ref.16710.

SUB / ref.16610LV (kermit) was released 2003, production ended in 2010....

Rolex is unpredictable!

Maybe they should focus on the lugs

But that was part of an overall product line overhaul of the sub

That's not the case this time

Agreed. Rolex blew it with the lugs in their latest models. I hope they don't do the same thing with the Daytona as they did with the C sub/gmt. I don't like a watch that looks like a G String.

A Gmtc at 42mm will wear like a 44mm, like a dssd almost, so its not gonna happen. The Daytona with the smaller lugs/case at 42mm would be a good, modern update tho, and Id love it in platinum.

Daytona

Isn't it the opposite? The Daytona with its signature screw-down pushers would appear bigger with same case.

Agree.

A chrono in 42mm might be more easily readable...but a GMT is nice at 40

I think they will come out with a couple smaller cased models, 36-38mm, we might even call them sports models like we used to. C'mon not everyone has giant wrists.

I have been wrong on occasion

I haven't been a member here as long as most and wonder when does Jocke do his yearly Basel thread? Is it the same day or a few days after?

After.

It's more of a (humorous) look back vs breaking news. You will see posts here soon with breaking news.

I don't see anyway the GMT comes out at 42mm. I am prepared to be totally wrong but it would seem silly with the Explorer II out there at 42mm. Otherwise you just have so much of the same...

Perhaps we ought to think outside of the box? White dial white Bezel? Not that I would want such a thing, but it would be absolutely feasible.
