For those of you who are interested in or who have purchased Edward Green shoes in the past I thought I would relay a bit of interesting information for those of you who either do not follow or who do follow styleforum but may have missed the following with regards to the new Edward Green resin Lasts.

Quote:

PS - the 82 last was remade and are now a half size bigger. surprised no one shares that yet. go down half a size.

This is in my opinion not a very accurate description. The story around the 82 (wooden) last that was floating around SF and other fora was that Edward Green had found that their old 82 wooden lasts had shrunk over the years, so they had new 82 lasts made in resin to their original dimensions.

Leffot was said to have given some of their customers the advice to size down half a size, that is not the same thing as that E.G. made the new lasts half a size bigger.

For me personally the difference in size between the shoes built on the old (wooden) 82 last and on the new (resin) 82 last are subtle yet noticeable, the new 82 are for me just a touch more roomy in the toebox and feel just as snug in the heel and ankle area. In my case the new certainly do not justify sizing down in width or length. Of course YMMV, I have only experience with my own two feet and size UK6E, it could be that if you are wearing a different/bigger size that for you Leffot's advice might hold more true to you, I don't know.

Here's a second but relevant post.

I might be able to provide some insight as I've been doing an extensive bit of research on EG lasts recently and have found my own perfect fit.

I attended the trunk show at Leffot a week or so ago and was able to talk at length with some of the folks at EG. I was told that all new production models have been converted to resin lasts. You're able to identify which shoes were lasted on resin by the production numbers written under the sizing tag within your shoes. If your number is below ~95k there is a good chance your shoes were lasted on the wooden variant. Shoes lasted on wood will be tighter, how tight is dependent on your own fitment preference...but for an individual like myself who prefers his shoes to fit like a wetsuit, the difference between the two is perfect vs. too tight. Additionally, if your production number is greater than 95K, there is a good chance your shoes were lasted on resin - these shoes do tend to fit a bit larger all around. I've personally confirmed this on both the 606 and the 82 last. If you have any questions about when/how your shoes were lasted, email EG directly and they'll be more than happy to help.

This is a picture of me during a proper fitting. I cannot stress enough how important this is and what a difference it makes. Personal experience is paramount; you'll never truly know what you're missing unless you either put the time in or waste a significant amount of money playing the trial and error game. The gamble is not worth the convience of Internet shopping. But do what you will...

These were both found here.

Nice shoes. I love the antique edge. I wish my 975s had antique edges.

Nice

That'll work, belts don't have to be a perfect match. In fact I think it looks better when they aren't.

I'm just still waiting on my latest pair of shoes. It's amazing you patiently wait 4 to 8 months, they finally arrive at the retailer and ship them. They get so close, yet you get even more impatient.

Very nice, you'll have to post your Vibergs when you get the chance as well.

I had the morning off and went shoe shopping in Abu Dhabi. The information Dan led me to made it easy to spot the not so well made shoes, which was almost everything on sale here in AUH.

The Berluti shoes were very nice. Craftsmanship was great. Beautiful shoes. I tried on 10 pairs of shoes from various lasts and the lasts just don't like my feet. When the width was right the heels were loose (by a whole finger).

Ralph Lauren had some nice C&J shoes, but only in UK size 8 (I'm a UK 9).

It looks like Dubai will need to be the place to find shoes in stock.

Excellent, sounds like your making progress. Here's hoping you have better luck in Dubai. I strongly recommend if you find any shoemaker to try and they appear to work for you that you try on all the various Lasts that you can possibly try. Also if you have not visiting their website will give you a better idea as to all what they offer.

Good Luck,

Dan

JM Weston and John Lobb are next. JMW has a store here in AUH as well as the Dubai Mall where Lobb is. I was told by the Berluti SA that the stock turnover is better at Dubai Mall, which makes it more likely a seller will have all their RTW sizes in stock.

I purchased these from Adam at Alden of Carmel. I put them away for the winter without wearing them. Well as the weather in Buffalo would have it...I got the chance to wear them. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1459791454.628929.jpg

Certainly sounds promising, but I would actually be surprised if you didn't have access to more of the better brands given the location. but I certainly would make sure to try whatever Lasts you have access too.

Once again good luck.

The Mailman was very good to me today. G&G Ishams in Rosewood Kudu on the MH71 Last. Overall more sleek throughout the entire shoe and a bit more refined than my EG Dovers in Mahogany CC. I'm extremely happy with how these turned out.

Unlined if you want them to be as cool and light as possible. Lined if you want it to retain its shape better.

No, in fact I'm fairly confident that the lining is attached before the leather is lasted.

Ah, remember cordovan itself probably affects fit more in the sense that cordovan on the same last is always more roomier than calf. Since cordovan does not stretch as much and can tear upon lasting cordovan will be a bit roomier on the same Last. But I've never found this to be enough for me to take a different size on the same Last however.

Dan
The chains that carry EG, Alden, C&J, and others online and elsewhere do not have them in the store here in AUH for the most part, and there isn't representation from the major shoemakers except for Weston and Berluti. There is a local shoemaker called "The Cobbler" that is priced in the Alden range (higher for bespoke), but I'm reluctant to test drive them without hearing from someone who has them.

I see exactly what you are saying about differences in lasts. I was surprised by the amount of change from one last to another from the same brand.
