Picked up some coffee at La Costa Coffee Roaster's. They just received some fresh green beans. Roasted just before I stopped in!

Matt, the Monolith Titan is a thing of beauty and I understand why it could not be prised from your grip. You are obviously an aficionado.

That's a good-looking set-up, Vinh, with some good bean too.

Thanks. It’s a real pleasure to pull shots from as before this I was on a little Silvia. As for the beans you should definitely check out Dodd Coffee. It’s a local friend of mine who has some serious talent and delivers a mean medium roast. Www.doddcoffee.com Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Great setup Vinh! Nothing like a semiauto machine and fresh ground recently roasted coffee.

I drink a lot of pour overs Bas. But not at home. The beauty of a pour over is the chance to explore complex flavours and the skill of the roasters.
I travel a lot. And I visit micro roasters all over the place. It is one of my greatest pleasures to taste pour overs and discuss their qualities with the people who have put experience, skill and dedication into creating their products. As much as I enjoy espresso. Single origin pour overs (which are relatively new for me) have taught me so much about the nuances of coffee. Not just individual bean varieties, but also the influence of climate, altitude, latitude, regional soils and different processing and roasting techniques. |

I don't travel that much and my local coffee shops don't offer pour over coffee. So I'm making it at home, trying coffee from various regions. Even just a few degrees in temperature or making the coffee finer or coarser has a big impact on taste. Lots of stuff to try! |

I enjoy a Chemex pour over in the morning. But for this coffee, I usually grind store bought Eight O'Clock beans. Makes a real good cup.

Pour-over is one of the options available to coffee-lovers.
Along with Espresso machines, Dripolators, Mocha Pots and French-Press it is a good way to experience good coffee in different ways. It is always interesting to put the same bean through a number of different processes and note the difference. As always though, the most important factor is the freshness and quality of the bean. You can't make good coffee from lousy bean, no matter how talented you are.

Larry, I use a 'lid' from one of those airtight plastic containers on my grinder.
It fits the diameter of the hopper perfectly. By moving it up and down in the top of the hopper it causes a pressure fluctuation and helps to expel the fine grounds that inevitably collect inside the grinder and produce a stale coffee smell and eventually clog up the mechanics.

Haha, I understand! Often I find myself just going to the espressomachine instead of manually grind, and pour over my coffee in the morning.

Sadly I don’t have much of a tolerance for caffeine anymore so one small cup in the AM is all I get.
