It's pretty predictable. Which is why I wonder about these type of threads.

Thanks for the tip. I'm a fourth generation Tampa native and have lived on the water here my entire life (except when away at college and B school). There's not much I don't know about this place.

Do I think the kid should be shamed for his age or his wealthy parents? Of course not. And sure, some people might view Rolexes as merely watches. But others view it as something more, and I don't necessarily think that means those people have their priorities messed up.

If I'm being honest, I don't think any 16 year-old can truly appreciate a Rolex. And I don't mean that in a rude way. I think 16 year-olds can definitely like Rolex watches. But a 16 year-old won't have the same wisdom that comes with age. A 16 year-old barely knows the real value of money, so how can one truly appreciate what it means to own one? Some people on here save for years to own a Rolex (while dealing with rent, mortgages, car payments, etc.) With that being said, I believe this kid can grow to truly appreciate his watch. Not soon, but eventually.

Anyways, enjoy your watch. And do your best to relate to your peers. A watch like yours is a beautiful thing, but it can create separation. I wouldn't be quick to label anyone a "hater" for making a snap judgment based on what you wear on your wrist.
Well said

Just got my First Rolex at 16!

Why is it these "got a Rolex and I'm only 16" or "I'm an uniformed young (possibly attractive) woman looking for a Rolex, help!" threads get so much ink?

I truly think many of these are started by Trolls looking to increase Stevo's internet bill by using up a lot of bandwidth

Congrats!

Although I would recommend to slow down, watches are meant to be used, enjoyed and to be by your side at special moments. Enjoy it, you have a real stunner there that could easily last you your lifetime.

Congrats on a great watch and those test scores...if my kids would get those kind of scores, I just might get them a nice watch, too.

I stopped reading after the 16 y/o OP was already looking forward to his second Rolex. Can someone summarize what I missed?

A number of things in this thread make me scratch my head:

1) A simple google image search of the OPs avatar shows the same exact image of the 918 plastered around the interwebs. Maybe OP grabbed a stock photo, but says "its my dads" on a number of occasions (or something to that effect) - not "my dad has the same one." This image is of a specific "liquid metal" paint job that allegedly costs $68K. I'm not saying this ISN'T OP's dad's exact car, but if they go to car shows, etc. I'd think the OP would have a a proprietary shot readily available instead of fishing one from the web.

2) The time stamp on the OPs posts are a bit obscure, especially for East Coast USA (assumed location given his reference to the car shows in Bergen County NJ). When I was 16 I loved sleeping and was not waking up at 6:00AM on a weekday to post on an internet forum. Posts continued yesterday morning fairly regularly throughout the morning of what should be a school day.

3) Layer on the remarkable SAT score and there just seem to be too many stars that have aligned for this story to hold water.

Perhaps the OP lives an incredibly charmed life, and if that's the case, good for you and congrats!

OP - please don't take my post the wrong way and forgive my skepticism. We are regularly subjected to trolls that weave incredible stories with made up details that you wouldn't believe. If I'm barking up the wrong tree here I'll happily apologize and again offer my sincerest congratulations on your academic and horological accomplishments.

I completely understand your skepticism as it makes total sense. I would love to get some more photos up of the 918 and being the car it is, it gets a lot of attention and pops up all over the web. To address the part about waking up early, I have to wake up at 5:45 for school (long ride and school starts early) and by 6 I'm already starting my day. I have had exams this week and as soon as we finish, we are allowed to leave, which is why I can be on at these time. I also leave my computer open at home with tons of tabs so that might explain why I appear to always be online. As for the SAT scores, I worked day and night tirelessly to nitpick my mistake to make sure I would not make any on the big test. I get what you're saying about internet trolls... they're out there but I am not one. I am completely genuine in my posts. Feel free to ask any questions you have.

Back to the photo of 918, that is my favorite photo of it because it was on delivery day which was an unreal and unforgettable experience.

Way to go on your SAT score. I doubt I even spelled my name properly on my ACT's.

Also, enjoy the watch and keep up the good work!

Why?
OP doesn't owe that to anyone on this forum.
Is "proof of life" a sudden requirement for any threads?
Does he have to post photos of his watch next to his genitals to prove he is a male as well?

This thread appears to be such a brilliant example of both the good and the ugly sides of people.

It's pretty clear why these threads get so much ink, it's because there is usually no need to throw in your age when you start a thread and it is usually the younger crowd that tends to do it. It happens to a lot of the car forums I'm on but most frequently on the GTR forum. How often do you see someone say, I got my first Rolex at age 50!

Mine too. The success and satisfaction was its own reward. And it was a nice lesson that a cookie wouldn't await as a reward for things that I needed to be doing anyway ... for myself.

Thank you mom and dad for that.

Well, sorry if this is inappropriate for my first post.

But here goes. I bought my first Rolex at 21 as a reward for myself for graduating. I pretty much did part time janitorial work in addition to working towards my bachelor degree for 4 whole years. Janitorial work pays well as no college kid worth his salt would even don those yellow gloves and swirl chemical laden floor cleaners on washroom floors. The smell alone is enough to put off anybody. But I persevered and work on campus in between my classes and on weekends.

So, when I finally graduated, I managed to scrum enough dough to get myself a nice Rolex Datejust. It was a Y series 16200. Bought it brand new and I still have it with me until today. My wife now wears it as she likes the size (36mm).

My point is that yeah, it's ok to own a Rolex at a young age. I did. But it would be extra sweet if you actually paid for the watch yourself.

Like they say, easy come; easy go.

Devil's advocate for a moment..........should you therefore not expect a raise ever for doing the job that is expected of you?
Should an employee that meets his accountabilities not see a reward other than his pay?
No raises, no bonuses, ever, after all, all you have accomplished is what you needed to be doing anyway.

Food for thought.

I was born and raised in Bergen County. Neither the gifted watch or the car, including paint job, would surprise me.
I'm 31 and can barely keep up with the technology the kids these days breeze through. It's pretty easy to wake up and take a pic or respond to TRF posts
As for the other stuff Just hope it's not a troll job
