None, on a daily basis since my heart attack last May 16.
Occasionally if socializing or out for dinner.

That’s so awesome. I’ve not had a drink in 268 days. At one time, I thought going a month was next to impossible. Now I sleep like a baby and can’t see myself ever going back to drinking. I’m the type that just can’t do moderation. I’m all in or all out. Realizing that, made all the difference for me. 3094 ... that’s awesome. I hope to be able to say that myself one day. 359 days for me. Been in the program for like 4 years now but always dropped out around 6/7 months to go for a bit of controlled drinking. Did that 3 times before finally getting that it’s all or nothing lol.
I can’t wait to get my 1 year coin on Saturday. Freedom from alcohol is one of the greatest things I could have ever done for myself. And now that the first years almost down, can’t imagine ever picking up another drink at this point. Hopefully I’ll be enjoying my 10yr while you’re enjoying your 20. |

My first observation is I'm surprised how many people on this thread have "on call" jobs. That's just an observation, it's more than I thought.
And I realize that this could be everything from a house plumber, to a heart plumber, and literally every other job in between and to both sides of those. My alcohol journey is interesting. From college until age 30, I was a six pack of beer per weekend drinker. On my 30th birthday, I friend said "I'll bet you $20 you can't go out with us on your birthday and not have a drink." Easy money. So we went double or nothing on a month. Easy money. I collected. $40 was a "Dear Diary" worthy moment to me at the time. I found I had broken the habit, and since I was strapped for cash, I didn't restart. I decided to try for a year. The year came around and I didn't pay it much mind. Then, at about 35, I had an EXTREMELY stressful job for eight years and felt I needed 100% of my wits at all times. Then for about ten years, I worked with people I did not trust, and again... needed 100% of my wits at all times, no drinking. At age 50, after 20 years and seven days without a drink (7,312 days), we visited Ireland. And I thought "I want to have Guinness". Had a few. Yum. Decided "I will only drink when I'm outside the United States" which for me at the time meant five or six drinks per YEAR for several years. In 2014 I joined my current company. Friday happy hour is an office tradition, and because I felt at home and trusted the team I'm on, I started joining in about a year later. Now I lead the team, and I lead the happy hours. I have a ridiculous (and unorganized) whiskey and whisky collection, and enjoy a modest amount many nights per week. My wife states that I'm more enjoyable when I go out of "head on a swivel/threat seeking" mode after a drink. I find the history fascinating, and I nearly always enjoy my dram with either books or documentaries about the industry. My $.02. YMMV. |

It is wise to observe this with oneself. What is your internal reaction to not drink for thirty days? There is your answer if you can hear it.

Alcohol doesn't agree with me, never has.
Gives me gas in the gut that causes Reflux and means I have to get up several times a night (on the occasions that I drink) to get it all going in the right direction. But I don't let that get in the way of having a few drinks if I want to. Wife thinks I'm nuts to put up with this but for me the enjoyment outweighs the discomfort. It's my only vice and I'm hanging on to it.

I try not to drink my calories during the week so I'll enjoy some wine, beer, or spirits sometimes on the weekend.
Many congrats to those who have managed to stay away from alcohol after it was affecting their day to day lives. That is no easy task. |

Zero for me. Alcohol doesn't work even if I would like to taste and appreciate a good wine

Having had been loaded for 8,760 days, I have now been clean and sober 9,580 days. The last 26+ years have been much more enjoyable than the 24 years prior. Been a long time since I’ve been in cuffs in the back of a patrol car. Life is good!

I don’t drink much alcohol anymore. My wife was able to make me stop the heavy drinking.

Right around New Years of '22, bought a sixpack of my favorite beer.
Here it is 16 months later and there's still four bottles left.

I quit drinking over 10 years ago, just got to an age where the pain the next day far outweighed any enjoyment of the evening, guess we get older and the body doesn't handle it like it did in our 20's.

How much alcohol do you drink per day?
On average , I have a couple glasses of wine a week. Maybe a dirty martini once every two weeks. But I could also go about a month or two without any alcohol at all. I never really liked drinking the way my peers do. I was never into drugs either. I never wanted to be with people that smoked pot or did any sort of drugs.

I started to drink in my late teens and smoking in my early 20s. Although I could tolerate alcohol better than my peers, I always hated the buzz and when I discovered my limits on a few occasions, by my mid 20s decided it wasn't for me.
I wish smoking had equally immediate effect for I would have broken that habit much earlier, too. Unfortunately that stuck with me till my mid thirties. Now in my mid 40s, neither seems to have left any damage and fingers crossed nothing turns around to bite me in the behind...

Only have a cocktail or wine with dinner when at restaurants. One or two max. Maybe once every 2 or 3 months. I work 70+ hours a week and don’t like being hungover/low energy. Also I’m over 25 years old lol…not sure how some of you old guys drink so much

I e gotten to where I have very little now and use WHO guidelines as the standard anyway. No more than 2 per day for a male, 1 per day for a lady. Pretty simple if you can stick with those.
