I have 12 ft, 9 in ceilings so I didn't bother changing to a "jackshaft" opener. When I built the house I had the door tracks follow the wall and hug the ceiling because I had the lift in mind. I can raise the car to get 6 ft under the lift runways and still be well under my opener. The lift manufacturer usually have online calculators for minimum ceiling height.

I actually installed it myself but I am a DIY guy by nature. I occasionally do oil changes and other work on it but mostly it's used for storage.

My car is only on the lift in winter. In summer my ATV and it's snow plow alomg with a few other items are usually on it. Like everything else I see it's gone from $3000 in 2015 to $4600 today. There are somewhat cheaper brands and much more expensive brands. If you have a week you can read a few threads on GarageJournal.com

So my plans for getting a garage lift have been complicated. I went outside this morning and started measuring. I might need to spend some time over the winter researching and maybe talking to people about this. My garage ceilings are only 9 feet tall. My door openings were originally designed for the extra tall doors, but then the builder framed over them and did standard bay openings. Ugh. That puts my tracks down at about 7.5 feet or so off the ground and the doors, when opened, are sitting a good 1.5 feet down from the ceiling. I might talk to my garage door guy about whether different tracks can be installed for the opening where I want to put a lift that would get those doors up closer to the ceiling when opened. I might have to actually change to an opener without a traditional track and chain and do one of the wall mount ones for that bay. Perhaps the single car bay might be the better location do do all of this versus the double car bay.

To further complicate matters, in my single car bay there is a structural beam running right through the middle of that bay, about a foot down from the ceiling.

I did some measurements and my convertible sits about 4 feet 8 inches off the ground. I could easily do the summer configuration where my various items are stored above the car. As far as the winter configuration goes, if I store the car with the top down and a car cover on it to keep dust and shit out of the car, then I can raise the lift much higher without that section of the roof getting in the way of the track. I just don't know if it's OK for a fabric top convertible to be stored all winter with the top down.

This might be a good subject for a thread over on the garage journal forum. I am sure there are guys over there who have had to trouble shoot situations like this before.

What is the consensus on garage floor epoxy versus floor tiles?

There is no concensus there about garage floors but you'll fine an entire forum section discussing it. 9 ft ceiling and 7 ft or so door height will be tough. I have 8 ft tall door openings and the single door is a 10 ft tall door so it is close enogh to the track radius to allow the opener to pull it. You will definately want to convert to a wall mound jackshaft opener to free up the space between the tracks. Once you do that, reconfiguring the track to hug the ceiling within inches is no big deal...just a matter of raising the curved and horizontal section and splicing in a section to lengthen the vertical to reach the radius.

I think you'll find that 9' ceiling will be a showstopper even with the top down...the windshield will still be there and with the thickness if the runways you will be lucky to have 4 feet under the lift. But as you'll find, if the area above is attic there are sissor trusses or pan ceiling trusses that can locally raise the ceiling. At some point you might just have to move.

Not to worry. Easy fix. The garage door tracks can be brought up towards the ceiling. You can get the tracks to hang down only 6inches. They will do this by changing the curve part of the tracks and elongate the straight up tracks. Then obviously you need a wall mount garage door opener. If you need pictures I can snap some when I get home.

Just got confirmation. Paid a deposit months ago. But apparently it was still up in the air.

I’ll be getting one of the last V12’s ever produced. The last Lamborghini Aventador ever. About 100 coming to the US, out of 350 in total.

6 month wait. It’ll go fast. Time seems to fly these days. Not likely to drive it too much. But I’ll most certainly be putting some miles on this sucker.

Feel very lucky. It’ll be worth double by it’s 3 year anniversary.

Pics when it happens.

That would be really cool. Thank you. Of course my wife just said she would rather remodel the master bath and redo our decks that we postponed this year due to the lumber insanity. Priorities!

I have the same issue with smaller garage.

I am getting a Bendpak HD9 ST installed in a few weeks.

I also put in a high lift door opener.

If your garage is longer, you can drive the car further in to give yourself a bit more space.

Another trick is to set the door not to open all the way up. And back up the top car so that the garage door is over the hood, which is lower

I put epoxy coating on the existing concrete base.

I also bought wheels on the lift to give myself the option to move the lift around a bit to fine tune the position.

I will be stacking 2 low cars and it will be tight.

Can’t compete with most of the cars posted on this thread, but I adore my little Aston and it will stay with me forever. I’ve tried so many different cars and I’ve finally found my soul mate!

It’s an N400 so a limited run of 240, albeit in reality it was just Aston emptying their parts bin before launching the 4.7! I’ve had a few things done to it, twin plate clutch and lightweight flywheel, primary Cat removal, 200 cell Cats, glass button kit, Apple carplay, reversing camera etc.

As i said, arguably not a patch on some of the cars posted here, but I wanted a Vantage from the day it was first announced and it suits me perfectly.

It’s my daily driver although i have a pickup for the rough stuff!

This is a collectors car Vince, I bet with those mods the sound out of this V8 Vantage is epic! And in manual I assume with the updated flywheel. Love these cars.

Car with gratuitous wife shot (still looks amazing at 54 when I took this shot in Sept):

The sound is crazy good! And although now louder and deeper, it hasn’t lost the V8 tune. I love the way it offers surprise and delight with occasional crackles and pops, I had an F-Type for a while and it cracked and popped all the time, to the point where it became a little annoying, whereas the Vantage does it far less frequently and you never know when it’s coming!

It’s Sport-shift, so an automated (or robotic?) manual. I never use it in automatic mode though as you need to lift off a little for smooth gear changes (because the clutch is being engaged), which is difficult if you don’t know when the car is going to change gear! So I drive with the paddles all the time, but unlike automatic cars with paddles, there is a skill in doing this well in the Vantage because of the timing and amount of lift-off. Arguably it’s a flawed design, but I love it because it requires Driver skill to get right.

Don’t have any shots from behind, but here is a picture of the front, next to a friends i8 and my wife’s M2.
