They are heavy, but incredible. Once you get used to it , wearing anything else is just not the same. I love the look, feel, and weight…I always want to wear it….

Yes if you wear the PT DD and then go back to steel watches it feels like you have nothing on. Very satisfying heft.

I fall in the latter camp as I think the understated bezel suits the ice blue dial and this watch perfectly. I had this on my ADs list as interested and went in today to acquire this piece that he received this week. Very pleased.

Look forward to seeing some of the new fluted ones in the wild as they make it through to ADs

I currently have 6 platinum watches in a collection that is primarily steel. The ability to switch between the different metals depending on mood and occasion is valuable to me
This watch is beautiful. I had asked my AD for the baguette diamonds but
the deconstructed romans is what happen to come in. I am actually glad that it did come that way because i can always upgrade to the diamond dial at some point. The diamonds are so beautiful they are so under the radar too.
The watch is very heavy but its not something you won't get use to. The heft is good.... its reminding you its there. Enjoy it. It looks great on you !

THIS is TRUE !
I also have the 36mm Platinum Day Date and when i put it on after wearing the 40mm.... it feels like i have nothing on. The weight of the 40mm platinum.... with the deconstructed romans is 266 grams. I wonder if the diamonds add more weight to the watch.... or even if the fluted bezel makes a weight difference. Maybe someone can weight theirs and post it.

Anyway..... fun heavy watch for sure... and easy to get use to.

I absolutely love the new release! I was offered the previous version but literally just because of smooth bezel I didn't take it, it looks weird and plain. I put my name for this new release.

Yes, losing 45 to 50 grams is a significant weight reduction and one would begin to feel its nothing for a while. In reality, as you know, 36 Platinum Day Date is very heavy .

The older 18206 is 160 grams. The 40mm PT DD is significantly heavier because of the solid link bracelet.

YES the 36mm is very heavy. But the 40mm platinum is insanely heavy. LOL
I LOVE a heavy watch but its ALMOST TOO heavy even for me. The other
day i had it on and felt like i wanted to take it off for a while. And THAT never happens.

Yes... I went from the 18206 to the 118206 and then now to the 228206.
All getting progressively heavier. I'm done now. I dont want any more platinums to get any heavier. the 228206 is finally ENOUGH !

i dont think that Rolex will ever make a heavier watch than the 228206. Even if they do.... i am done with that. For years i never owned a steel watch because they all felt too light. Now that i also own the James Cameron 126660 deep sea.... thats ALSO it for me with steel watches. That one is 225g and thats just fine. It actually weighs the same as my 118206 platinum which is also 225g.

I never weighed my 18206. I no longer have it. It was a lovely watch but not heavy enough for me.

And... for anyone interested.... when i saw the 136660 Deep Sea James Cameron at the AD last month ... I weighed it and it was 215g. Thats likely because the extended link does not come on the new model. So if you are looking for a lighter weight Deep Sea.... That new one could be for you.

Were you able to see a 40mm w/ diagonal dial by chance? Any pictures to share?

This is what makes me think 36 PT DD is more of a practical choice btw those two. Still, its a big weight to carry. Saying that, 40 PT DD is better looking.

So a question for the people here with some more knowledge than me…
I can pick up a smooth bezel platinum DD with a dark blue second hands, the AD said these are brand new but I read they got discontinued in 2022?

There are still smooth models trickling in before the fluted hits as the only option. So you might have the chance of getting a new one if you really like the smooth.

you know.... Now that i have the 40mm and i have had a chance to compare it to my 36mm. That pie pan bezel on the 40mm is not that great. to my eye... the rolled bezel on my 36mm looks better. I will say that the deconstructed romans are SO fabulous ! The way they throw the light is amazing.

I dont know.... They are both good..... but that 40mm is SOOO HEAVY ! lol There is NO WAY i could forget its on my wrist. I am definitely not complaining about it since i have been waiting since 2019 for it. At least it happened.... so the hell with a few more grams. LOL

What I've realized is that there are so few platinum Day-Dates out there with the kind of fanciful factory dials you see on the other Day-Dates. Those dials exist but for some reason are always on the WG Day-Dates.

Things like factory onyx dials are as rare as hen's teeth.

I dont know why Rolex stopped making the stone dials. They were SO beautiful. It seems to me that they should again offer them on the day dates. maybe somewhere down the line they will. They REALLY make a watch SO special !

I'm surprised there aren't more examples of the stone dials on the 18206 DD. In my opinion it really showcases the luster of the platinum especially since there's no distracting fluted bezel.

This is the one dial where I'd considered buying an aftermarket example. I'd take it a step further and have no text on it. Just the Rolex coronet.

You know... I was gonna do that with my36mm. I know where i could get a custom stone dial made. I was thinking about black opal. Its SOOO beautiful and would look SO good on a white watch. Apparently Rolex made a gold Day Date at one time and put the black opal dial on it.
Here is a link to have a look at on Christies website.

The one thing that's turned me off the aftermarket stone dials is that they can't seem to get the gold frame for the date apertures right. If you look at the factory examples the frames are beveled but the aftermarket ones are all flat. It's clearly a cost cutting measure since they can just stamp out identical things and glue them on.

I wonder if a good jeweler would be able to make one that's factory standard.

These are the people i have actually spoken with. They have a lapidary and they can make just about any stone dial as long as they can get the material. They work only thru Jewelers.... not directly with you. I have been thinking about a stone dial for years because i love them so much. My 36mm platinum is 2008 so it would be fun to have a stone dial on it. They are based in Dallas.

Here is the link.... https://www.timedelay.com/gents-custom-dials

if anyone wants more info you can PM me.
