Its still really cold here, Carl. I really hope spring hurries up.
I got one of my watches back from the watchmaker. It's purring like a kitten. Unfortunately, the kitten has been trying to "help" me take a picture of the watch, making it almost impossible to get a good picture. Now, if you look at the watch, you can't help but notice that any band for this thing would necessarily be uh, very skinny? Looks like 3mm apart, and the posts have tiny holes in them where you can fit a spring bar or whatever else they used back then. I was thinking that perhaps I could make a pendant out of it? Or somehow otherwise do some kind of bracelet or who knows what with it? Does anyone have any thoughts?

A pendent sounds like a very good idea but perhaps you'd like to consider a cuff band, I know many watches from that era were put on such bands and the result is, I find, quite nice!
I did something similar with a watch of mine when I got it. Mind you, the space between the lugs is wider but the result is still similar to what you could do with that one.

I would need to find tiny spring bars it seems to use a cuff band. I did this for now.

I had been avoiding that thread until just now, and after reading it through, have to wonder if she/it is a troll. I just can't imagine a real woman talking like that.

Not yet. I wasn't satisfied with this and took it apart. Tried to make it right for a few hours... giving up now. Will try again tomorrow after I find more wire :-)

Yeah I love it, love the size, perfect for a work shirt. And is keeping time +1 sec a day. My speedmaster I got from an AD, and was factory fresh/sealed, has always run +10sec.
I'm not that bothered how accurate my watches are, but I didn't want to have to service it right away. |

Good Morning...and thank you for the dancing balloons.. Thankfully Im just drinking coffee this morning and I know they aren't real.
Welcome Pamela..I can't say it better than Carl did.. Wes, Im really happy you love the watch. The hands look bent on purpose and I like how they look. Gives the dial a bit of subtle flair. The band that came with the watch is nice, but Im wondering if you tried the other one on you ordered? I think that would look awesome in the Porsche. You know what to do ... take a pic. Its bright and SUNNY here in TO today. I'll be heading to my brothers soon. I have to get a couple cups of coffee in me before I go over there. My brother said the kids are bouncing off the walls they're so excited about "Zia's birthday party"... SO SO SO cute! Zia is italian for aunt. |

Thank you Bas, I've tried my Seamaster on it as well and quite liked the result.

Thanks! We call her the Grey Terrorist, but her name is Pandora. My daughter got her, then ran off to the Netherlands to follow love. Long story, but she met this boy at Minecon where they asked her to speak since she was a Minecraft administrator (now a server owner). He's Dutch, they fell in love, she went off to try to get a residency permit which didn't happen, so she enrolled in college and is there on a student visa. I'm glad she went to college but miss her of course. The kitty is a sweetie, talks a lot, and jumps on my poor blind dog because she loves to play with him. He's not so keen.
Judy: Happy happy happy! Yes, the watch is a Roles. It's one of my first acquisitions when I started collecting. It takes FOREVER for watchmakers to work on these because parts are tricky and if they can't find them, they have to make them. This is why someone like Bob Ridley is so special. You can see on the inside that the gear thing (see how much I know about the inside of watches? :-)) says Rolex on it. The inside of the case also has the Rolex logo, as well as W & D for Wilsdorf and David, founders of Rolex. Having Rolex inside the case means that the watch is post 11/15/1915, when they registered the name Rolex. I'm likely not reading the hallmark correctly, so please feel free to correct me, but it LOOKS to me like the U indicates 1915, and the other U in the broken up square thing I think is actually an upside down omega for the London assay office. The 9 is for 9kt gold, and the 375 vertically underneath is the gold amount, corresponding to the 9kt marking.. I may go off to the craft shop and try to get some practice wire and find my jig and try again. As Kahn said in ST II, "he tasks me and I shall have him" :-)
