My hand surgery is delayed till March 5th. Too much going on & would be harder to do with 1 hand in a cast.
After the family meeting with the medical staff yesterday, my father agreed to admit my mom in to a home. Up till now he had been refusing but I think he finally saw the reality of the situation & agreed. The staff told him that beds at this home do not come up often as it is usually everyones #1 choice (its very well run). And that if he chooses, he can take my mother out but he cannot just make a call to put her in. He may exercise that option, but we're hoping he gets that notion out of his head & lets my mother assimilate in to her new surroundings without causing her distress & guilt of her illness. He is not smart that way & is pretty selfish. If he gets out of line, the staff will adjust his attitude. I'm glad about that. So...I'm both happy & conflicted, many emotions & feelings I cant describe. I never thought I would have to put my mom in a home. But happy that places like that exist to care for her. :-) |

Hi All,
Finally had my surgery yesterday. All went well I suppose if I'm posting this today. The surgeon ended up doing a block to my left arm & I was heavily medicated instead of putting me under a general anesthetic. I wasn't keen on being intubated for a short surgery so the plan was ok by me. They would shake me from time to time to make sure I was ok, otherwise, I felt nothing & was too out of it to hear what they were saying. I wear a cast for 6 weeks & then we go from there. I have a follow up next week & I better get a new cast! The surgeon slapped my cast on with the finess of a blind person. I had to go get it shaved down yesterday already. He was too impatient to wait 5 min. for a nurse to get me a nice colour for my cast that he used what was in the OR. What was in the OR was Camo! I wasn't very impressed. I'm really not a Camo / Duck Dynasty kinda gal. The guys in the OR thought it was cool, the female nurses just looked at me with pitiful silence and the "oh, what is that?" So..this shite better be replaced next Thursday. Plus, the cast is too top heavy. Again, the surgeon put it on. I told the cast tech he should have been in the OR & he said none of them want to be. My mom is doing ok at the nursing home. Adjusting pretty well. Mind you, I dont think she quite knows where she is. I keep telling her she's at the hospital to get better. At the end of my visits I just tell her I'm stepping out of the nurse's way so they can take care of her. If I tell her I'm leaving she starts to cry. It breaks my heart but with her advanced Alzheimers, it's the best place for her. Initially my father was really not adjusting well at all. He was threatening to take her out the 1st day she was admitted. Its been a couple weeks now & I think he's finally seen the light. He goes to see her every day but doesn't spend too long there. He still has to get over his own stigma of the nursing home issue. A few family members have gone to see her & all give the green light to the place too which also helps reinforce to my father that it's a good place. Its clean, peaceful & close to home. The unit is actually pretty quiet. Thank goodness she is on that floor & with a quiet roommate too. Ok, well, typing on my laptop with 1 finger has been challenging. Sorry for any typos. |

Judy, glad your surgery went okay and Yes, I am a guy(I think!!! LOL!!!)but would not want "Camo" on my arm, wrist and hand either. Next week will come soon enough and then you can have it changed and if the Orthopedic doctor doesn't want to change it…..just have it cut off so they have to put a new one on!!!
As for your Mom…I feel for you and your Dad, and know your situation is not very easy. My FIL continued to go downhill after his wife succumbed to Cancer(I'm sure he thought she would out live him). My Mother-In-Law was a fantastic beautiful woman who had a heart of gold and loved everyone. I use to get upset(but held it in out of respect for her and her daughter; My Wife, My Lady and Best Friend)that he(FIL) still expected her to wait on him "hand and foot" even when she was sick and dying from her Cancer(originally starting in her breast). His way of dealing with her "C" was to make jokes, be sarcastic and expect her to take care of 'Everything'. He did though, always go with her to support her by driving her to her doctor's for Office Visits and Procedures…..and I do give him credit for his Support. But she knew he would fall apart once she was gone. She also confided in me about her wishes and her thoughts and emotions the last 3 months she was alive because she felt she could not discuss certain health matters with him or her grown children…..that they would buckle due to their love for her and also she felt they could not handle the stress or understand how she felt. She asked me if I would or could be willing to be her "Sounding Board" and I of course said Yes as I loved her dearly after knowing her for 37 years. When I asked her why she had chosen me…she said because I knew what it was like to feel my body(parts)change and not be able to do a damn thing about it(of course those are my words not hers…she never swore in her life)but could and did understand……..( have had another friend and she is in Stage 4 and has told me the same thing…..i I'm sorry but I need a break as my emotions are welling up

Thanks guys for the well wishes. I told my brother to make sure he brings as many coloured Sharpies he has & stickers this weekend when they come to visit. My neice & nephew can decorate the hell out of this cast. I wont mind.
Leo..sorry for the reminder of your MIL. Its hard being strong for someone when inside you are anything but. It says a lot about your character that those that know you feel safe to confide in you. . |

Karly..
My Datejust is the 36mm size. The 26 is just way too small for my eyesight. I had considered the mid at 31mm but I figured I was just going to get older & I would adjust to the larger size, which I did. :-) |

Judy, Thank You for your kind words and thoughts.....coming from you they really mean a lot seeing that you are a very fine woman, nurse(by profession)and a care giver/advisor of sorts to your parents, niece and nephew and your patients and co-workers at work. It takes a special person to do what you do day in and day out. Then adding in your own current physical limitations and you know all about the difficulties as they arise!!! And really I'm okay as these random moments do come upon me every now and then as I have lost both my parents(Dad in 1998 and Mom in 2007) and many friends over the past five years. Even though I know at my age I'm bound to start experiencing the loss of loved ones and friends it never gets any easier..... Take care.....Leo

Glad to see some new members since some of the old timers are MIA the past few months.
I was rear ended last week by a woman with a SUV full of screaming kids she got out of her KIA and was crying her eyes out....plus the kids were all crying.....a light went off in my head......this is why I never had kids and did not marry till I was 47. I will need a new rear bumper and some body work etc. about 2500-3000 in repairs. She had Progressive Ins and so far im happy with their service. We got a Toyota Venza for a week while they fix our Highlander.....I really like the Venza its really fast with the v-6. Im really sore from the accident.....just what I needed is to get in a car accident. I went to the hospital and the took x-ray etc....and gave a script for 6 5/500 lortabs for pain and I laughed and threw it away. Take care everybody |

You guys are killing me with the Carl's. Wes, thank you very much for the offer but I'm pretty sure I have this one as well, I moved back to Montreal so my stuff has been put in various places all over the province (some things are back in my old apartment, other things are at my parents...). I appreciate the offer though my friend. Things are going well on my side, I hope it's the same with you.

Hi Greg...glad to see you popping in. :-) Sorry about the accident. But thankfully you are ok.
Hi Carl.. Missed as always. You mentioned moving back to Montreal. Did you get a new job? Needed a change? I'm doing ok. On my 2nd cast after surgery as the other one was very loose. I have another 5 weeks with this damn thing on then go from there. All in all, things have settled here on the home front. My mother has adjusted to being in the nursing home better than we thought. The staff say she gets weepy at times when the family isn't there but they talk to her & she cheers up. I was going through some pictures on my computer & came across this letter I had kept. I don't think I ever posted it. My sister in law was sad the guy didnt go through the entire alphabet. She suggested I go out with him again just so he could in fact, finish. LMFAO Background...went out with this guy early last spring & suffice it to say, was only the 1 date. I dubbed him "my alphabet lover". So..to all you guys who think this kind of email is ok...IT'S NOT. You won't get a 2nd date & forget getting naked. Pay attention to letter L. I was 48 & he thought I looked 58!! He was a nice enough guy but a little too peculiar for me. Thoughts? Feedback? LMFAO |
