So Leffot has the galways in stock in several sizes. Just not in a color I want. I want that burgundy because it looks great in the pictures and I want a lighter colored boot after those 2 dark brown C&J I got recently. As far as the EG site and shipping/duty goes. This is what it says: "SALES DUTIES We want your shopping experience to be as seamless and efficient as possible. That's why although we ship our shoes from England, you can be rest assured that for all orders of over $250, duty to the United States is included. For orders under $250 you will be responsible for any import duties incurred in importing the order." I'm assuming duties will be covered based on this. Unless there is some charge that would be applied. Let's see what happens tomorrow. Might all turn out to be pointless if that last doesn't work. |

I would still highly recommend checking Styleforum and the EG appreciation thread out regardless. Not because I doubt what EG says just so you may gain some insight. It certainly can’t hurt.

I pretty sure rules have changed. But it used to be determined based on which shipper you used and it was fairly significant.

I think you’ll find a wealth of knowledge and some very helpful people. Thing is sometimes you have to spend a bit of time to find it. The threads are lengthy and there’s bits here and there. Searching sometimes will work but not always.

Agree with Dan. SF has a ton of useful info.
Dan, did you see that an ex-EG employee has joined SF? He is posting in the EG thread. I just learned that for top-drawer shoes, EG provides lasted trees. I was under the impression that EG no longer males lasted trees (except for bespoke shoes, maybe). You learn something new everyday. |

Over the few years that I purchased EG shoes there were changes as well. They used to sell more Lasted Trees. They used to allow GMTOs which they no longer do. The last I knew EG didn’t sell Bespoke shoes. This program disappeared when Gazianio and Girling got together to sell their own shoes. I forget which one worked originally for EG for sure but when he left so did the Bespoke program for EG.

I didn't even think the TD was still available at Edward Green. They don't even advertise that program on their website.
FYI, both Dean and Tony worked for Edward Green. Tony was more a shoe designer while Dean was a shoemaker. |

Ah, thanks. I know they still did a couple of years ago, but I couldn’t say for certain whether they do or not now. I would say that their website although decent now was terrible not too long ago. So although it’s not mentioned it may still be possible.

Stopped by Leffot today.
Tried on the galways. I guess my issue is that my right foot is slightly wider than my left. So the size 10 felt perfect in terms of length and fine on my left foot, but a bit snug on my right. Was wearing slightly thicker socks today and that didn't help, but was given very thin socks and they made the fit better. One thing I noticed is that my heel would pop up and out a bit while walking around the store. Stephen at Leffot said this was fairly common for the galways and gets better as the sole breaks in. Anyway, didn't get them because I want a lighter color, but it's good to know that the 82 last in size 10 can work. Whatever leather they used for these versions did feel extremely soft and supple. Much softer than any new shoe I've ever seen.

That grained leather is called Utah and comes from a tannery in France, I believe. I’ve heard that it is very supple.
If you like that leather, but want a lighter color, check out EG’s gold Utah. |

http://www.edwardgreen.com/shop/shoe...y-82-last.html Not available in a 10uk though, so I guess I'll be waiting a bit for a lighter brown color. Even a medium brown would work. |

The strangest thing yesterday was when I got home and checked the EG site. the 10UK was available and I added it to my cart. Got all the way to checkout and then it said it is no longer in stock. Not sure what happened, but it was an odd time for a glitch. I don't mind being out of season right now. The other colors seem to be available, but I really want a medium brown and I think it might be a good thing that I couldn't order the burgundy. Color from people's pictures looks good and I could be happy with it, but I think I'll wait to see what's available next season. If it does become available, I would probably order and see how I like them. EG offers free returns so it wouldn't be too much of a hassle to send them back. |

Yes you, yes, you really should. Alden is nice but truly there are so many great options out there and for the same if not just a little more there are even better options out there.
