Had a bad dream last night. i just hope HAM can make it out of the next few races alive without a weird accident or strange equipment failure.

Would MV have left the track by >5 metres under any other circumstances?
Well sure…

None of us (that I know of) have been in the seat of these cars, on that track, at that point in that race, at that turn, under those surface condition, with those tires degraded to their respective levels, etc…etc…

But all of us have a right to an opinion - mine is that VER took a defensive line and washed out his front a bit, counter-steered and then got back on the go pedal.

So respect your pov - thoughts?

In the end imho facts don't matter. It's the new reality of the world we exist in.

I sense some despair, Steven
FIA F1 specifically, or motorsports in general?

True,

HAM half a second faster than VER. Looked like BOT slowed up after the last corner and initially thought it was because of Gasly parked on the inside of the straight, but then realized BOT wants to start 3rd on the clean side of the track. Very astute of him to back off for tomorrows race start.

Horner says the Merc straight line speed is down now after all the complaining and scrutiny, and comparable to the Red Bull, just that Hamilton had a great lap.

Surely the Mercs could just crank up the downforce to bring down the top speed and get the benefit in the corners.

Some great engineering from Mercedes either way to get this performance boost just when they need it.

Doesn't sound like gonna be much overtaking tomorrow.

Not respecting double waved yellows in the final part of qualifying. No surprise as my impression is that he has little respect for anything on track.

If he doesn’t receive a grid place penalty then the season is being fixed for him to be world champion. Speeding under double yellow flags is a 5 place grid penalty and since MV set his fastest lap on the last lap he’s unlikely to successfully argue that he slowed down.

Agreed. If the authorities don’t handle this the right way then it is clearly one rule for one and a different rule for others.

F1 officials clarified the principal penalties for DWY during the USGP weekend.

A non-threatening breach: driver loses that lap time.

A dangerous breach: 3-place grid penalty.

Of course “dangerous” is a subjective choice - but it usually means speeding at the incident site with a stranded car present, a driver out of the car or other “boots on the ground”. Like emergency response, medical, fire marshal or course marshals.

This incident happened due to GAS tire failure and he continued without stopping IIRC.

GUESSING ONLY: Lap deleted.

Thanks was out on a run and hadn’t seen it yet. I must have been wrong and GAS actually stopped somewhere on the side of the track?

I agree about about at least one “possessed” driver VER must be patient where he now will start.

Horner whining that Masi should tell marshals when to put out a flag…he clearly doesn’t know how a race is marshaled.

Ha, so obviously from Gasly went wide on purpose, he even had DRS and didn't use it.

Pretty much a standard race at the front thus far for the TV audience. But a lot of good racing throughout the field for the fans at the track.

I would wager that his team were hoping for a little bit more from him than rescuing a fast lap.

Agree

There was something amiss with that car methinks so he’s retired.

He may have been "retired" through frustration and as a point by Toto.

That was a joke. If that’s not collusion, then I don’t what is. So blatantly obvious.

Merc would get roasted if they did that

Well Stewards did a warning…

And Horner will serve in Race Control to learn a bit more about how we control races…
