My area has been engulfed in forest fire smoke for the last 2 months, so I don't plan on retrying any smokey Scotch any time soon! Maybe one day, though. I liked the Balvenie 12 DoubleWood, it was a sweet and easy sipper. I will look for some Dalmore the next time I'm out in a bar. Thanks!

My wife's uncle is a veterinarian and he accepted a bottle as part of a bartering for some services. The guy had taken a box of liquor from his parents when they died, and he knew my wife's uncle liked bourbon so he saved it for him.

This is a 1936 bottle of Bond & Lillard bourbon, aged 6 years. The tax stamp is still in place and sealed, and shows the bottle was purchased in 1936. The lighting was bad so my camera flash obscured the tax stamp. Upon close inspection, when tipping the bottle the cork still appears to be intact. There has been some evaporation, as you can see by the level of liquid remaining in the bottle, but it makes for a fun collection piece. He has no plans to open it.

Not a bottle. Admittedly my whiskey drinking goes down a bit in the summer months.

However I spotted the Ardbeg Wee Beastie armored battle truck thing in front of my local liquor store and stopped and answered some questions and got some free gear. It’s not much but it’s one of my favorite scotches so thought it was pretty cool.

That makes sense, I wouldn't have any appetite for anything smoky either in your situation.

How’s the B521?

I was not impressed by the A121 at all.

Weller Special Reserve (Green Label) is fine. The red label Antique 107 is my preferred bottle, though.

Either one seems to be ridiculous to find, as people draw similarities to Pappy... Not worth inflated prices, IMO, but I could drink Antique 107 every day, if I had an unlimited stock.

A117 and B520 are my favorites. B517 was also very good, but C919 wasn't great. I haven't had any of the 21 releases, unfortunately.

Interesting. Had the Weller 12 (black label) recently at a bar and it had way more alcohol burn and less flavor than I’d expect for its proof and age. Wasn’t impressed with it.

B520 is hands down my favorite.

Was not a fan of the C919 or the A121. I have the C920, but haven’t cracked it open yet.

Agreed. I have Weller 12 and Weller Special Reserve. I prefer the latter. I buy two bottles whenever I see it in stock (that’s the limit they allow)

Agreed. I usually keep a bottle of W12 on hand only for blending into Antique 107 to make Poor Man’s Pappy. W12 on its own isn’t anything special, IMO.

I like the Weller 12 fine, but I find the Special Reserve to be just as good if not better. I definitely don't think the 12 is worth the difference in price. Of course, that assumes I can find either one - just got lucky enough to pick up a Special Reserve at my local - right place at the right time.

I have a big concern this year will be a flop with the Q strain in there. Very surprised they put that in given it’s typically not liked by most.

Interesting consensus. I’ve seen the special reserve a time or two but never picked it up. Given it sounds like it might be better than the W12, will have to give it a shot.

So it sounds like the consensus is W107 > WFP > WSR > W12 ??

I personally am not a huge fan of WSR, so it would be W107 > WFP > W12 > WSR. I find the WSR is too flavorless, and the W12 has just enough oak to give it some flavor. W12 is an easy sipper, but I just don't reach for it. I find the 107 is the perfect proof (which leads to flavor...), especially if you find some unique single barrels. Everything is subjective, and everyone's palate is different. the WFP I have wasn't a huge step up from the 107, so it's not worth hunting and definitely not worth paying a premium over. I would personally pay $90-100 for 107, if I had to.

It is funny how different palates can be. I really enjoy the SR - I find it flavorful but easy drinking (and it's only 90 proof, which makes it go down easy, but it may also contribute to the fact that it doesn't have as much flavor to your palate).

I've only had the 107 once, and it was a long time ago. I remember liking it, but I don't feel like I can judge it against the others until I try it again.

As I've gotten older, I've had more of a problem with higher proof spirits. Lots of indigestion, no matter how good they may taste at the time.

I thought it was good but then again I'm not a true connoisseur. I mostly drink Blantons.

I appreciate the feedback. I’ll probably snag a bottle if I can find one. And nothing wrong with drinking Blanton’s.
